Lets get a close up of his tears.....great.

[–]KNUBBS -2 points-1 points ago

Just wait, Ashton Kutcher might jump out.

[–]Etownkirk 25 points26 points ago

It's one of the those situations where the documentary team can only let nature take its course.

[–]emh1389 2 points3 points ago

What kind of snake is it? Is it endangered? No? Kill it, and feed the kid's village with it.

[–]Mizzikiel 8 points9 points ago

Its really messed up, but photojournalists aren't supposed to interfere or influence anything. That being said, plenty do, but technically they are supposed to only be observers.

[–]emh1389 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, it is messed up. For those who do nothing, the price is your conscience, your morality. In a situation like this, you save that boy. You'll get trouble, but I'd rather get fired than watch a kid get eaten by a snake any day of the week.

Edit: a few words

[–]Mizzikiel 3 points4 points ago

Absolutely. Kevin Carter, the photographer of this killed himself a while after that photo was taken. I'm sure there were other factors at play as well. But nevertheless, he left the boy to die and I'm sure that was an influence.

[–]TheClayroo 5 points6 points ago

That little GIRL didn't die right here. They were waiting in line for food hand-outs, out of scene. He even chased the bird away. This is one of those internet myths. The photographer did indeed kill himself, but I'm sure it was due to a lifetime of witnessing things like this.

[–]Mizzikiel 1 point2 points ago

Oops, that was my bad on calling her a boy. And yeah, there was food near by, but it was quite a ways away. He didn't pick the girl up and bring her to it. He may have chased the bird away but he didn't help improve her situation by much.

[–]ericjames 1 point2 points ago

According to The Pulitzer website, they were 1 kilometer from the "food camp."

Not sure which source is more reliable.

The one I found just says she was struggling to make it to a food station, and she stopped to rest. My point was he didn't take a picture of a vulture moments before feasting on a kid as we've come to think.

[–]Ouizardus 2 points3 points ago

Bad for ratings; people paid for blood!

[–]bornes 15 points16 points ago

You know, I don't get it. You put this shit on facebook or anywhere, and people will give the guy behind the video camera shit for not helping the kid out.

Everyone seems to forget there's a guy behind the camera that took this picture, too. :/

[–]Archangelus 4 points5 points ago

But his work was important, without him we wouldn't be able to judge anybody at all!

[–]hey_wait_a_minute 3 points4 points ago

And what's all the fuss anyway? It's not as if this were a white kid!

[–]anoano 9 points10 points ago

The snake is wrapped around the kid's leg, hardly life threatening. I'm sure they were able to remove the snake after the shot. Most likely a staged picture.

[–]PNut_Buttr_Panda 2 points3 points ago

Agreed. The snake could easily be dead and they are just staging a horrible scene.

[–]hetzle 9 points10 points ago

english is less worth

[–]sectorfour 2 points3 points ago

This would be a cool album cover.

[–]pyroguy30 3 points4 points ago

The photographer who took this Pulitzer Prize winning picture ended up committing suicide after receiving a lifetime of criticism for not helping the girl.

[–]Mograne 4 points5 points ago

So...for the rest of his lifetime.

[–]kaiden333 5 points6 points ago

[–]liverpoop 0 points1 point ago

Huh?

[–]kevlo 1 point2 points ago

The arrow is confusing the hell out of me...I can't appreciate the picture because of that god-damned arrow.

[–]AquaShrimpp -1 points0 points ago

What is he supposed to do? He's holding a camera. Those things might be expensive or too heavy to put down and then pick it back up.... jeez. Cut him some slack

[–]shuddleston919 -1 points0 points ago

Well, I think that a regular human instinct if they saw a fellow human lethally bound; would be to put down the toy they're playing with, and help the boy free himself from the constrictor or anaconda. Perhaps I'm way off here, but toys always took second place to human lives.

[–]Mumbling-Dolphin 0 points1 point ago

woosh

[–]AquaShrimpp 0 points1 point ago

I'm being sarcastic. Of course that fucker should have helped her

[–]shuddleston919 0 points1 point ago

Your sarcasm went Whoosh right over my head, sorry 'bout that. I was paying too much attention to the folks that were saying that photographers are not supposed to interfere with how situations unfold, no matter what actually happens.

[–]AquaShrimpp 0 points1 point ago

No big deal man. Have a sweet day

[–]felixtre 1 point2 points ago

and what about the guy who took the picture of the guy taking the video, is he being judged too?

[–]shuddleston919 0 points1 point ago

touché.

[–]I_RAPE_RATS 0 points1 point ago

If anything, he should be judged even more severely.

The guy who we can see holding the camera in the background is a photojournalist and as such he should have as little influence or interference as possible on the subjects he is documenting.

The dude taking the picture of the photojournalist is just an asshole standing by watching it. Whats his excuse?

[–]McArctic 0 points1 point ago

Cash is worth more* and yes, yes it is.

[–]BlindSite 0 points1 point ago

Erroll Flynn's son was such a bad ass as a war correspondent he picked up an m16 and led a charge up a hill in vietnam

[–]lochlainn 0 points1 point ago

Weren't war correspondents "in the field" in Vietnam soldiers?

[–]Bigmike99s 1 point2 points ago

That sucks

[–]Jd0808 0 points1 point ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]Cyndaquil 0 points1 point ago

I really hope this is staged, and the snake is someone's pet.

[–]Ouizardus 0 points1 point ago

Empathy? You must not be from around here.

[–]ljungberg3 -2 points-1 points ago

what was the fate of teh child? died?
