You are telling me that owls don't know happiness? When they see their newborn being eaten alive by a hawk and the newborn scoops out an eye of the hawk thus escaping from it's clutches and lands in a spot where a rat is foraging to feed it's own newborn which will be an orphan soon because the baby owl has got home a rat for dinner, you are saying papa and mama owl won't be happy?

I'm saying that birds have relatively simple brains in comparison to ours. Birds breed out of instinct and impulse, not so they can raise a family and become mommy and daddy birds. This view you have is a normal human way of seeing things called anthropomorphism. To fully understand an animal, it needs to be studied without the bias of your human experience. All of those various feels we get are from the monstrous frontal lobes that control higher thought, and birds don't have it.

As we domesticate animals we select them for certain traits, in particular the ones that are most human. That is how we turned wolves into the intelligent and emotional forever-babies we call dogs. People are doing this with birds by keeping parrots etc., so the possibility exists that some species of bird can experience human like emotions, but if you are following a barn owl around waiting for him to flash you a grin I would advise you to move on.

A lot of people here in the comments thread seem to be getting really upset at this post, or at the degrading quality of "cake day" posts recently. I'd just like to remind them that this is a website about looking at funny pictures. The karma is meaningless, and it's all intended to just be humorous. What's the point of humor if you take it so seriously that you get mad when someone doesn't do it right? Sure, if you were in a more serious subreddit you would be in the right for correcting someone on a shitty post. But this is /r/funny. Just downvote and move on to the next post instead of getting all worked up about this
