Dihydrogen Monoxide, oh no!

[–]Beatlesque 18 points19 points ago

Hydroxyl acid D:

[–]Epiicuros 15 points16 points ago

It's the main ingredient in acid rain!

[–]saywhatisobvious 7 points8 points ago

and in tumors

[–]nullvader 22 points23 points ago

Reminds me of the dihydrogen monoxide hoax.

[–]oofabz 30 points31 points ago

Yes, but he provided a link, so he passes... for now.

I don't think your picture worked.

[–]morgothmm 5 points6 points ago

Look at what the flouride in water does to your pineal gland...

[–]ItsOnlyKetchup 2 points3 points ago

You won't be able to vibrate on a FOURTH DEMENSIONAL LEVEL

[–]morgothmm 1 point2 points ago

It fucks up your ability to dream and it slowly affects your cognitive function.

[–]Snaykfinga 0 points1 point ago

NSFL! :C

[–]stratosss 0 points1 point ago

Oxidane, actually.

[–]Cannaseur 0 points1 point ago

Yes, that's the accepted IUPAC name. However, I was referring to the DHMO hoax.

For the record, there are many different names for water: Dihydrogen monoxide, Oxidane, Hydrogen oxide, Hydrogen monoxide, Dihydrogen oxide, Hydrogen hydroxide, Hydric acid, Hydrohydroxic acid, Hydroxic acid, Hydroxylic acid, Hydroxilic acid, Hydrol, and μ-Oxido dihydrogen.

[–]Khuskan 0 points1 point ago

Dihydrogen monoxide is not one recognized by the IUPAC which is why it was used for the hoax - so a simple search wouldn't turn up the hoax status.

[–]dafuq_dude 0 points1 point ago

I feel like someone should make a movie parodying water as a negative thing.

[–]brownsniffer 0 points1 point ago

Someone needs to make a psa

[–]dafuq_dude 1 point2 points ago

I read it quickly and thought you said someone needs to make pasta, to which I would reply, never ending pasta right now at Plive Garden 10.99

[–]brownsniffer 0 points1 point ago

nice :)

[–]jessek1 1 point2 points ago

I love in high school when that clever science teacher would go on a rant about the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide and you see all the dumb kids are extremely concerned. So funny.

[–]Tyrant718 57 points58 points ago

This stuff better not be legal.

[–]thelastimperial 46 points47 points ago

Its terribly addictive, no one's ever been able to quit without dying from the withdrawal. I heard like 3 days, max...

[–]BusRider 19 points20 points ago

I hear people bathe in the stuff. Those filthy animals.

[–]bmillsgotskills 13 points14 points ago

I heard the blacks were drinking it down in New Orleans, quickly outlaw this cursed DRUG!!

[–]gamradtt 21 points22 points ago

water is a gateway drink to ALCOHOL!

[–]sprunkiely 36 points37 points ago

Oh, fuck! I just drank a bunch.

[–]time20 3 points4 points ago

i'm drinking some right now! what do i do?

[–]sprunkiely 7 points8 points ago

I heard if you put some water in a vessel and smoke cannabis through the water it will neutralize the H2O in your system. Sometimes it can take coups amounts cannabis to get neutralizing affects that you need. Hopefully you have some around.

[–]time20 2 points3 points ago

noted and thanks, good frient :)

[–]LoadInsane 12 points13 points ago

I was just about to write this comment but then i saw yours and decided i should just laugh

[–]viralizate 7 points8 points ago

And write a comment, about the comment :)

[–]TheAwkwardBanana 24 points25 points ago

Actually water does kill people. Some faster then others, but it usually takes ~80 years to kill a human.

[–]nullvader 28 points29 points ago

[–]LoadInsane 4 points5 points ago

I actually think about this all the time, but mostly when im at a [6]+

Do you even know what electrolytes are!? (quoting movie, not being a dick)

[–]brownsniffer 0 points1 point ago

Ive never seen a plant grow in a toilet. Maybe you arent so smart after all

[–]nimcau 5 points6 points ago

dammit, how could you leak above the influence's newest campaign early?

[–]darkrabbit713 5 points6 points ago

You forgot about the recent studies showing that water has been found in the systems of car accident victims!

[–]TheNamelessRedditor 3 points4 points ago

I injected seven whole waters once and Hitler came back to life and gave me cancer.

Water. Not Even Once

[–]joebenation 4 points5 points ago

I heard that the new trend is "tap" water. It has impurities in it and just 1 h2o of "tap" will give you ghonaclamydaids malignant cancer tumors, otherwise known as "The tap clap".

[–]happyCuddleTime 12 points13 points ago

I don't think it's a fact that 100% of all serial killers, drug dealers and rapists have admitted to drinking water. When has anyone been in a position where they must admit to drinking water? When's the last time you have said "Yes, I have drunk water at least once"?

[–]HotNewMusicToday 4 points5 points ago

Busting balls in /r/trees?

[–]happyCuddleTime 5 points6 points ago

Haha, no. Just pointing that out because I thought it was amusing. It doesn't detract from the joke in any way. I liked this post.

[–]bigbosskush[S] 9 points10 points ago

70% their body is water...

[–]TiadTheHero 8 points9 points ago

That doesn't mean they've admitted it, though - his point is that it's unlikely that they've been directly asked if they drink water. Some batshit insane people might swear up and down that they never drink water; it doesn't mean it's true, but they won't admit it.

[–]TriumphantTumbleweed 4 points5 points ago

They always drink water in trial.

[–]TiadTheHero 0 points1 point ago

Again, that doesn't mean they're admitting to it. It can be blatantly obvious for the world to see, but they can still deny it.

[–]FCOS 0 points1 point ago

This is the dumbest argument

[–]TiadTheHero 0 points1 point ago

Not really, when what the original guy pointed out was that not all had necessarily admitted to it.

[–]FCOS 0 points1 point ago

No, but seriously, you're arguing about drinking water.

[–]tusksrus 0 points1 point ago

What does that have to do with it? I've never eaten sulfur but I'm sure you'll find traces of it in my hair.

[–]PapauNewGuinea 1 point2 points ago

Maybe they took a poll and just used that number to represent the population.

[–]BlackFootJFish 0 points1 point ago

Most percentages are based on the percent of the number people that the person collecting data has interviewed so it's like saying out of 50 of the 50 rapist we asked drink water aka 100% (6)

[–]_supreme 1 point2 points ago

Yes, I have drunk water at least once.

[–]Ricktron3030 4 points5 points ago

More people have died from water intoxication than marijuana overdose.

[–]Frase 2 points3 points ago

We have to do something quick about water; it's having a destructive effect on our youth, and it's promoting gang violence. My father was a water addict, and it took his life. It took his life before I was even born. I struggle every day with the pain that water has caused me and my family. It's up to all of us to report all suspicious behaviour involving water to the local authorities. WATER: just say H2-NO!

[–]sloppypoptart 7 points8 points ago

I once knew someone who had 11 h2o's at once. He know has aids cancer.

[–]PirateOwl 1 point2 points ago

Sloptart?

[–]hop_juice 2 points3 points ago

This PSA is brought to you by the GOP.

[–]Erowid2S 2 points3 points ago

Start the War on Fluids! This is despicable!

[–]Drunky_Brewster 1 point2 points ago

Strangely enough, today at Hempfest a kid offered me a hit for a sip of my water. I thought wow, either weed has become super cheap up here or water has become pretty damn expensive..

[–]opossum420 2 points3 points ago

I heard of a guy who ODed on water... he was in a pool of and sank to the bottom... these people are addicted

[–]fragler 1 point2 points ago

a whole pool of it? Disgusting.

[–]dalsgaard 1 point2 points ago

Still. Without water you die. Without trees, you just become bored a little.

It does not compare, I say!

[–]goatsonaboat 0 points1 point ago

That's how addicted we are. Without it, we die!

[–]sequoia123 0 points1 point ago

This is ridiculous...As in I really disagree with cannabis loving.

It is not harmless!

[–]swarexs985 0 points1 point ago

What did you say?

[–]vinyl_party 3 points4 points ago

look, i know this is /r/trees and we're supposed to be accepting and whatever but get this stupid shit out of here. Its just childish and it doesnt give you any real facts.

[–]NigelBrown 4 points5 points ago

Can you or someone make this to look like it's from a war era? Like, real propaganda? -would be SO cool.

[–]LeeENTfield 4 points5 points ago

This is stupid..

[–]SolTheShadow 1 point2 points ago

Dammit, this was actually funny. Thanks a lot /r/trees

[–]dat_wud_be_gud 0 points1 point ago

LOL this is fucking awesome.

[–]AldenH 0 points1 point ago

That hobo drinks water! Therefore all people who drink water are dirty hobos!

[–]essdoubleU 0 points1 point ago

yup, this is pretty much what it sounds like.

[–]MightyBlaze 0 points1 point ago

It's possible I suppose.

[–]MightyBlaze 0 points1 point ago

Beyond possible actually.

[–]agway46 1 point2 points ago

my cousin almost overdosed on 5 waters. Nasty stuff, should be illegal.

[–]fraudster 1 point2 points ago

Joke's on you! I drink Beer!

[–]Shermanpk 1 point2 points ago

You people are all mad with power! What is this some kind of circle jerk gone wrong!

[–]Minored[!] 0 points1 point ago

Funny to think that water kills more people than weed.

[–]RPrevolution 0 points1 point ago

DEA questioning:

"Is water more addictive than heroin?"

"All illegal substances are bad"

[–]Zippytiewassabi 0 points1 point ago

Fun fact, water is chemically synthesized by burning lots of things... byproduct of combustion of hydrocarbons.

[–]GrnTiger08 0 points1 point ago

Say it ain't so!

[–]coke-pusher 0 points1 point ago

wow this has opened my eyes to the truth! I'm afraid it's too late for me, however; I will spread the word of a water free lifestyle to those who can still be saved from its treachery.

[–]MyDadCantCount 0 points1 point ago

Reading this just made me this thirsty...

[–]jqrd4n 0 points1 point ago

lost it at the leading cause to drowning

[–]anonymous_troll -1 points0 points ago

Honestly, I think that it would behoove the community of marijuana smokers to not treat the matter of legalization so hyperbolically. It does nothing to help our cause.

The truth of the matter is that there are real dangers to smoking marijuana. Chronic use has been shown to decrease the size of the hippocampus and to degrade the structural integrity of the white matter in the brain. Reading these recent findings has caused me to cut back on my use, from smoking daily to smoking only on weekends.

That, however, is beside the point. Posters like this do nothing to support our cause, because they make us look immature, unwilling to humor our opponents, and unwilling to discuss things in a rational fashion.

If you want to see legalization in our lifetimes, the best strategy is to put things like this entirely to the side. When you see people saying that marijuana cures everything, correct them. Such people plainly don't know what they are talking about, and our opponents know it. A knowledgeable party, who understands what marijuana can and can't be used for medically is productive. An advocate who will staunchly defend inaccurate medicinal claims is counterproductive. Hyperbole such as this is similarly counterproductive.

The argument is simple. You want full legalization, because the vast majority of you, including those with medical cards, smoke marijuana recreationally. (Yes, it helps with my back pain, but my primary reason for smoking weed is to get high.) You don't think that there is anything wrong with this, because it's safe enough, judging by the yard stick of alcohol and tobacco. The matter of acceptance is a cultural one, and its initial ban was pushed by teetotalers who had tried, and failed, to ban alcohol. In a country that claims to use personal liberty and freedom as the the foundation upon which its government is based, banning the use of marijuana on this premise is unacceptable.

Everything else sounds weasely, or immature to our opponents, and ultimately harms our cause.

[–]goatsonaboat 0 points1 point ago

I fully understand what you are saying, man. I do. But this is an online community of people that smoke marijuana. Now, we all want legalization, but posts like these are purely light hearted fun, a core element of what makes this community so friendly. I'm not trying to attack you in any way, friend, but we just like to have fun here; to joke, to laugh, to post silly things about nothing in particular. When advocacy calls, we will stand up, but in the mean time, let's have some laughs, eh? Thanks for reading, my friend, and happy toking.

[–]evilcupcake9534 0 points1 point ago

One time, i had like five things of water...huge mistake.

[–]bamboo_shoot 0 points1 point ago

Fact - You need water to survive!

[–]ki3f 0 points1 point ago

Genius

[–]sir5ur 0 points1 point ago

Water, not even once.

dies

[–]Sutekhseth 0 points1 point ago

It doesn't even have electrolytes..

[–]dirufa 0 points1 point ago

Well, too much water can actually be lethal.

[–]Hillymack 0 points1 point ago

It is the dihydrogen monoxide that is in all water, that causes this. In very low doses, dihydrogen monoxide can cause headaches, thirst, hallucinations and even death. Stay away. You know when you are hung over, it is the small amount of dihydrogen monoxide you get from the alcohol, and the great outflow of water that is the cause.

[–]iseeee 0 points1 point ago

Water, not even once.

[–]Vote_Joe 0 points1 point ago

Damn I'm thirsty..

[–]ryannayr140 0 points1 point ago

Inhaling water is deadly too!

[–]sessimilia 0 points1 point ago

Over consumption of water won't necessarily lead to sweating

[–]jdogbemple 0 points1 point ago

Also if you drink too much you die from water poisoning.

[–]InkOnVinyl 0 points1 point ago

Ha - water the leading cause of drowning

[–]NebraskaENT 0 points1 point ago

Man I wish I had more uptokes for this! Laughed so hard!

[–]morgothmm -1 points0 points ago

Actually there is fluoride in water which can give you atherosclerosis, gum disease, skeletal fluorosis, coronary artery disease, and cancer. It also destroys your pineal gland.

[–]a10t2 0 points1 point ago

I do not avoid women, Mandrake, but I do deny them my essence.

[–]rockzn -3 points-2 points ago

water is a part of your body just by nature and marijuana is just a nice thing to add to your watery body. So you were in fact comparing apples and pies. Oh my god I feel like a fucking new age indian when high.

Someone make something like this about trees

[–]sloppypoptart 4 points5 points ago

Drugfree.org then go to marijuana "facts" and it will sound just as fucking stupid as this except millions of people believe it -__-

[–]BreeTea 1 point2 points ago

Smoking marijuana leads to some changes in the brain similar to those caused by cocaine, heroin and alcohol.

...well, if that isn't just the most vague and misleading statement I've ever seen, I don't know what is. Cocaine, heroin and alcohol have so many effects on the brain. I'm sure there are some that are similar to those of marijuana and it doesn't even specify that it shares similar NEGATIVE effects. It just says effects, but since everyone knows those substances can be very bad, they know it will be assumed that marijuana having similar effects as those is a bad thing.

[–]PapauNewGuinea 2 points3 points ago

True, but I wouldn't expect them to get into the neurochemistry aspect of it because no one would stay around long enough to figure out what they were trying to say.

Also, that's not from the drugfree.org site. That's just some random website.

http://checkyourself.com/fivemyths.aspx

Which I'm assuming is where you got that from, but if it isn't, nevermind.

The rest of his points weren't even arguably correct.

\3. MYTH: Marijuana Isn’t As Bad As Cigarettes TRUTH: Nope, sorry. Pot actually contains many of the same cancer-causing chemicals found in tobacco. Puff for puff, smoking marijuana may increase the risk of cancer more than smoking tobacco does.

Therefore, if you smoke pot regularly, you may experience the same breathing problems as those who smoke cigarettes. To put it plainly, walking up flights of stairs will seem difficult, and if you’re an athlete -- that unattractive wheezing and coughing caused by excessive smoking won’t look so hot (or feel so good) on the playing fields.

\4. MYTH: Driving While High is Safer than Driving Drunk TRUTH: Hardly. In a study reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, even a moderate dose of marijuana was shown to impair driving performance, since it affects alertness, concentration, perception coordination and reaction time – essential skills required for safe driving. Researchers also found that 17% (1 in 5) of crash victims under the age of 18 tested positive for marijuana.

\5. MYTH: I Can Smoke Pot and Still Get Straight A’s TRUTH: Hey, anything is possible – but there has been a lot of research done that states the opposite. Researchers have found that heavy marijuana use may be especially problematic during teens’ peak learning years, when the brain is still developing, since smoking pot can impair your ability to concentrate and retain information. This can cause poor academic performance. You might think you’re doing well in school – but you’ll never know if smoking pot is inhibiting your true academic potential.

This from number 3 is correct "Pot actually contains many of the same cancer-causing chemicals found in tobacco," but he made a false correlation that has been disproved in more recent studies.

Number 4 is just completely wrong, those studies have all shown that the largest dose of marijuana was equivalent or less than equivalent to low to moderate doses of alcohol. Maybe what he stated was true, but he was completely wrong in declaring the "myth" was incorrect.

Same for number 5. Not only is smoking cannabis and getting Straight A's possible, it's easy if you are already a straight A student. Sure, many people say that cannabis use can mess up brain development in teens, but it won't stop them from doing well in school unless they abuse it. It might have bad long-term consequences, but I'm not sure what those might be (I'm sure they exist, but I don't know what they are) because I've never seen any science behind it except for a study saying chronic teen cannabis users are twice as likely to become schizophrenic.

Some of the stuff he brought up was true, but he used those to try to prove untrue points.

[–]onya 1 point2 points ago

one of the problems with the schizophrenia link is that people with mental health issues tend to self medicate so it's hard to establish causation.

[–]PapauNewGuinea 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, that's what I figured. I worded it poorly, though. I meant to say that chronic teen cannabis users are twice as likely to show signs of schizophrenia later in life.

"become" was a bad choice.

[–]BreeTea 0 points1 point ago

Well I searched Marijuana Facts on drugfree.org and it brought me to some other page. Probably that one. But yeah, those things were ridiculous..

[–]misterdirector -1 points0 points ago

You need water to survive. You can live without trees. This kind of argument is pretty ignorant to be honest.

[–]TheMagicStik -3 points-2 points ago

Dude I'm immortal so make that 99.9999999999999999999999999999999% of people die after drinking water.
