While that's wonderful, and really fits, you can tell it's not real. Why? Because the BBC would never use the phrase "mall santa". Why? Because here, we call them "shopping centres".

[–]Wildebeast1 21 points22 points ago

Nice spot!

Spot on, spot on!

[–]Asuperniceguy 5 points6 points ago

And I have never seen someone pretend to be Santa in one.

[–]btguinn -1 points0 points ago

The fuck do you do to keep your kids occupied while one or other parent picks up their presents, then?

[–]Khuskan 0 points1 point ago

What kind of shopping centres do you go to? Every one I know has a Santa's grotto at Christmas.

[–]Asuperniceguy 1 point2 points ago

You know, ones in Yorkshire...

[–]Khuskan 0 points1 point ago

Not really, I'm a Southerner.

[–]worotan 0 points1 point ago

Absolutely, this stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

[–]weirdal1968 13 points14 points ago

The BBC would like to apologise for the erroneous caption in the last story. The caption writer has been sacked.

[–]blackedout 4 points5 points ago

Apparently we made a mistake, and the person responsible for the last sacking has now been sacked.

[–]Villainsoft 54 points55 points ago

A fucking genius. Show some goddamn respect!

[–]GotHat 23 points24 points ago

He is a genius, but most geniuses are fucking insane.

[–]BCP27 0 points1 point ago

Genii*

And yeah....he falls under the fucking insane category.

[–]Admiral_Toast 1 point2 points ago

GotHat wasn't wrong, but you aren't either, both words work Don't be a Grammar Nazi without looking it up first

[–]BCP27 2 points3 points ago

Ever since I read the 5th Artemis Fowl book, I can't help it.

[–]samishxc -3 points-2 points ago

More insane than genius lately...

[–]JJBell 6 points7 points ago

Yea, but look how much genius we got before the insane.

If I could write 90 pages of Moore quality prose in a lifetime, I'd die happy.

[–]fomorian 2 points3 points ago

what's he done that's insane lately?

[–]Psygnosis911 1 point2 points ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Girls

I have a large hardbound edition of this simply for the sheer lunacy, it is without a doubt the most embarrassing thing I keep on my shelves.

[–]fomorian 1 point2 points ago

it says that it was published in 1991.

[–]Psygnosis911 0 points1 point ago

A small portion came out in the early 90s but the major bulk of it came out in 2006.

[–]Frydendahl 0 points1 point ago

Yeah but he also made Peter Pan porn, so...

[–]Tier4 12 points13 points ago

Alan Moore wrote Watchmen. He is fucking awesome.

[–]Felipe_O 11 points12 points ago

and V for Vendetta

[–]bowieneko 7 points8 points ago

and The Killing Joke

[–]Felipe_O 2 points3 points ago

Ill probably get alot of shit for this. but Killing Joke was probably my least fav Alan Moore book. Sure when it first came out it was probably awesome to show Jokers origin story and it was fucked up what he did to Barbara and Gordon, but to me it was just meh. and i never understood why the hell Joker and Batman were laughing together at the end. Its been a while so i dont remember the joke he told.

[–]Terazilla 1 point2 points ago

Been years, but if I recall correctly it went roughly like this...

Two lunatics are running from the police. They make it up to a rooftop but with the cops coming up the steps realize they're cornered. There's another building across a wide alleyway, but it's too far to jump.

"I have an idea," says the first lunatic. I have a flashlight here... I'll shine the beam across the gap, and we can walk across!"

The second lunatic considers this for a moment, then shakes his head. "What, you think I'm crazy?" He shoots an accusatory glance at his companion, then snaps at him again, "You'd shut the beam off before I made it across!"

[–]Frydendahl 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, but it had evil midgets!

[–]Felipe_O 1 point2 points ago

I completely forgot about the midgets. I redact my previous statement.

[–]bowieneko 0 points1 point ago

Personally, I've never read it. I just know he wrote it. :P

[–]Rtrohde 1 point2 points ago

and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

[–]ShadowyCabal 0 points1 point ago

And The League. Come to r/LoEG. It's lonely.

[–]grendelwald 5 points6 points ago

[–]Riffles04 0 points1 point ago

That is also the Gentleman who wrote Watchmen and V for Vendetta.

[–]Jbizzatron 0 points1 point ago

I dont know if anyone cares, but Alan Moore wrote some of the best comics of all time. so thats what he does for a job sometimes.

[–]zboyultra 1 point2 points ago

[–]CanIGetaHellYeah -4 points-3 points ago

Forgot to add "Sells rights for people to turn his books into films then insults, berates and belittles the creators of said film and refuses to watch any adaptation of his work like a self important ego maniac."

Love the work, hate the man.

[–]kenatogo 13 points14 points ago

No, more like "never owned rights to his work because of draconian major comic publishing company policies, vehemently protested the adaptation of ANY of his work into movies, saw his creations get raped and changed in front of his eyes, gets robbed of his royalty rights, then refused to endorse or even watch any adaptation of his work".

Love the work, the man is antisocial, but the industry treated him like garbage.

[–]barset 2 points3 points ago

After all the comics I've read through out the years, Alan Moore still comes to mind as the single best comic writer out there. I don't even classify them as comics as much a graphic novel in true form.

[–]tenehemia 0 points1 point ago

I'd still put him behind Dave Sim for the title of best comic writer, but Sim's in an even worse position than Moore when it comes to the antisocial / shat on by the industry / pretty much nuts. At least Sim owns all his own work.

[–]LETSBACON -1 points0 points ago

My names Alan:F

[–]flytaggart1 0 points1 point ago

Heres my unpopular opinion for the day: while I think the stuff the guy writes is pure gold, such as The Killing Joke, I think the guy is a total nutcase, and I do not like him as a person.
