Ahhh. Imaginary Foundation. If this subreddit had a team uniform, I'm pretty sure that company would design it.

[–]Alex549us3 4 points5 points ago

Fuck yes! I fucking love IF. I've purchased two prints from them and like 4 shirts now. I wish I had enough money to buy everything they have. All of their stuff is amazing.

[–]fuckingunicorns 0 points1 point ago

I have the one where the old man is blowing smoke that turns into a galaxy. One of my fav shirts

i assume you are at least an ent if i see you wearing this

[–]le_chasseur 3 points4 points ago

Thanks I just bought one of their t-shirt!

I think this would fit /r/fifthworldproblems quite well.

[–]trytheblumpkin 29 points30 points ago

We were born too late to explore the world and too early the explore the galaxy.

[–]drgath 16 points17 points ago

While true, we do live in an equally fascinating time. 90 years ago, astronomers didn't even know about galaxies. We didn't have indisputable proof of exoplanets until 8 years ago. Within your lifetime, we may discover the theory of everything and unlock all the secrets of the universe.

We've likely acquired more knowledge in the last 100 years than in the previous 10,000 years, combined. Sure, we don't get to go out and explore undiscovered lands or worlds much, but we get to explore our very existence with our minds, through the lens of physics & cosmology.

Oh, and we just invented the Internet, probably one of the top 5 inventions of all time (so far).

[–]shaggadally 4 points5 points ago

This was touching. Thank you.

[–]HelpMeThink 0 points1 point ago

Which would be the other 4?

[–]angryD 2 points3 points ago

I think my top 5 would be: Printing press -easy replication of books/knowledge/ libraries Solar Panel - it will only get better and probably save the planet Telescope/microscope -so much scientific advancement down to this pair Silicon chip - seems pretty up there Steam engine - opened up long travel to the masses. Film camera -recorded history gets a magnitude leap in richness.

[–]HelpMeThink 0 points1 point ago

Cool list but I'm surprised that the laser is not in there.

[–]taint_stain -2 points-1 points ago

Or the spork. I mean, it's a spoon AND a fork.

[–]Insanatey 27 points28 points ago

but we were born at the right time to explore ourselves

[–]Apple_Mash 1 point2 points ago

Not if you're american!

[–]the_penultimate_userShroom initiate 4 points5 points ago

You don't necessarily need illegal substances to explore yourself, it just helps . . .

[–]Zovistograt 1 point2 points ago

Quite so! I don't use any drugs at all (not even caffeine). The mind is a strong enough drug on its own, for me, anyway.

[–]Apple_Mash 4 points5 points ago

This is a silly opinion, your mind cannot come close to emulating what drugs feel like. Also if you have ever taken medicine you've done more serious drugs than a lot of illegal drugs.

[–]Zovistograt 0 points1 point ago

I've been able to induce my own audiovisual hallucinations. I think that's pretty good. Really, from numerous accounts of acid trips described to me, I kind of already have that going on in my head. Of course I can't prove it, but all the same, it shouldn't matter. I enjoy how I go about expanding my mind, and you enjoy how you do it. I don't speak out against drugs. Honestly, I think the world would be a better place if people were high all the time! I just don't find it necessary for myself :3

[–]Apple_Mash 2 points3 points ago

What I'm saying is choosing to not use drugs because you can induce similar effects is a silly choice, you won't lose your ability to expand your mind.

[–]OriginallyWhat 0 points1 point ago

how do you go about inducing your own hallucinations?

[–]Zovistograt -1 points0 points ago

Particle accelerator, two rubber bands, and a liquid lunch.

...no, I started noticing that I could see simple psychedelic things in an overtired state if I unfocused my mind from the concept of sight, both inward and outward, and then I have been able to build it up a lot to make it happen when I am less and less incredibly sleepy. I'd imagine it works differently for everyone, but I think the basic idea is to start in a state with no stimuli and very, very close to going to sleep (since dreams are wonderful trips of sorts, aren't they?) and once you find a good place there, work backward. Works for me, no clue if it works for everyone else, so...take it as you will.

[–]OriginallyWhat 0 points1 point ago

that's pretty cool, i'll have to try it. how strong can you get them?

[–]Apple_Mash 0 points1 point ago

I wasn't referencing drugs, but also this is /r/woahdude, so I think I should be able to reference drugs without being downvoted.

[–]the_penultimate_userShroom initiate 1 point2 points ago

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to make you look bad. I just wanted to add another side to the concept of exploring the mind, a concept I think is overlooked because it is so much easier with drugs.

[–]Apple_Mash -1 points0 points ago

Yeah I get it man, and don't get me wrong, what you're saying is just as important as anything else, if you try to expand your mind with drugs before really understanding your mind/self without drugs you won't get very far.

[–]Lobster_Man 2 points3 points ago

Maybe too early to explore the galaxy...unless we stop bombing the shit out of each other and work together as a planet to explore space in co-operation...

[–]coldblade2000 3 points4 points ago

Do you know what is that space picture? I want a new desktop.

[–]justawhitekid 1 point2 points ago

It's from "the Imaginary Foundation". Check them out if you like this pic, they're fucking genuis; http://www.imaginaryfoundation.com/store/mens-t.html

[–]psYberspRe4DdSpace is deep 1 point2 points ago

That actually was for a long time the header and sidebar image of /r/singularitynetwork that is a network of subreddits you find in the menu bar on top of it. And it's still used at /r/transhuman.

[–]ReFreshing 1 point2 points ago

I saw this image and the wall and ladder represented human imagination, intuition, and perception. Everything beyond that is infinite, yet with our lowly human abilities, we can only reach so far.

[–]istigkeit 1 point2 points ago

I like that interpretation. I saw it as humanity has finally advanced enough that we are able to pull ourselves out the frame of mind limiting us to just our planet. We've become aware of the limitless possibilities of what lies beyond.

[–]ReFreshing 0 points1 point ago

Good one. I guess i have a more pessimistic view. lol. I like yours better.
