I felt this was needed before people misunderstood the picture.

The caption of the middle finger was taken from David Attenborough's First Life: Conquest which can be seen here at 8:07: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vg4vSYRyNU

The use of the middle finger was not in a way to offend anyone, but rather in the same way that the index finger is used when pointing to objects.

Thank you sir. Why someone would want to make it seem like such a classy guy as Attenborough would even think of giving people the finger is beyond me. That's simply not his attitude, and I'm glad it isn't.

I abhor those who want to coddle the religious as though they should be protected from anything offensive. But don't pretend that Attenborough has such poor taste as this. Far from honoring him, it demeans him.

The non-classy aspect is the moron who chose this still frame from the video to misrepresent the intention.

I love his voice.

I know, his voice is so relaxing and well-suited to nature shows. Since he has been doing them so long he is literally the voice of nature shows to me and a lot of others.

Ive been watching Planet Earth every day for the past week now and cannot read this without hearing his voice.

I remember watching a documentary on penguins (I think) a few months ago, narrated by Morgan Freeman. It was OK, but it just wasn't DA! Both have great voices, but DA wins in this fields, as he knows what he's talking about, and you can tell that, as opposed to MF, who you can tell is just reading a script. Doesn't have the passion in the voice.

My man! Attenborough, integrity in journalism.

[–]FSMfan 0 points1 point ago

Indeed. Love me some Planet Earth. Best documentary ever, IMO.

I like that this picture has been reposted so many times that the image quality has taken a noticeable decline.

This man is to me what Morgan Freeman is to reddit. I will weep when he is gone...

[–]OryxConLara -1 points0 points ago

But... but... Morgan Freeman is God!

My dad's worked with him a few times. Apparently just the most incredible guy.

TIL David Attenborough has a subreddit dedicated to him.

I read through that, saw he was British at the bottom, then had to reread it again in a British accent. No regrets.

[–]--Heisenberg-- 1 point2 points ago

You need to watch one on his documentaries, so you can read it in his voice. You won't be disappoint.

I don't understand the downvotes. :/ You legitimately made me chuckle.
