I've been here before! This is at at the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim, Washington. My grandparents live just down the road and took me there in march. These bears are particularly good at catching slices-of-bread-turned-frisbees in their mouths. They also have hideously overgrown claws from not having anything to wear them down on... Poor things.

New Yorkers know that the people on the sidewalk who solicit donations to the Children's Fund (or whatever it's called) are all trained to wave at people on the sidewalk like they know them. It makes you try to fake conversation with them for a solid minute before you realize you've been DUPED AGAIN.

What's up with all these bears waving? Granted it's only my second time seeing a GIF/video of it, but it's not like there's that many animals around that mimic the gestures that humans make, excluding apes/monkeys/gorillas perhaps. Is it something bears does naturally in some fashion? I know they have a tendency to stand on their two feet when they have to, using their arms for other purposes (honey!).

I once saw a girl waving at me and calling my name. I didn't have my glasses on and I was in a hurry so I waved back and said "Hi! I don't know you!"

Turns out it was a friend of mine that moved to Arizona. She was visiting her boyfriend and she saw me. We had a good laugh about it though.

I wave to random people as I drive by them. Sometimes I give them a friendly honk while I'm waving, just to make them that much more certain that yes - I was, in fact, waving at them.

I don't actually know these people. I only do it because I know they'll spend the rest of their day slightly annoyed because they can't figure out who it was that waved at them.

This video was taken at the Sequim wildlife refuge in Sequim, WA, if I'm not mistaken. The bears wave and do other things as they are conditioned to interact with visitors so that the visitors will throw bread at them.

You get to drive your car through what amounts to a zoo, with some interesting animal encounters. Ever had a buffalo try to stick it's head in your car window?

Me and the kids have this game when we're in the car:

Whenever somebody walks the street by himself, I honk the horn and we all wave at them. When they wave back it's a score. When they look around them to see if we're waving at someone else before they wave back, it's a double score.

True story: I was living with my mother after my divorce. She had me tag along with her to a Hoa meeting because of how quickly they turned into screaming matches between neighbors because everyone hated each other, and she wanted my support. Sure enough, within 5 minutes, grown adults had devolved into bickering children because of one slight or another. I spoke up and explained how in just one month of living there I noticed no one waved to each other as they were driving down the street and suggested that such a simple gesture could make a big difference in giving everyone a little sense of community. Surprisingly everyone agreed to make that one effort. Within a couple of months the neighborhood had a block party and everyone became congenial! Little things, like waving can have a huge impact on how a person feels about not just their neighbors but themselves and people in general. Give it a try.
