See, this is why I'd get fired as an astronaut. I'd park my ass there all day. Mission Control could go screw. Call somebody else to water the mice and feed the plants, I'm looking at EARTH OUT MY WINDOW.

[–]ricodued 38 points39 points ago

What are they gonna do if they fire you? "Hey uh... so, come back down here now."

[–]Asytra 29 points30 points ago

See, this is why I'd get fired as an astronaut.

Doesn't matter, had space.

[–]alteron808 43 points44 points ago

Looks like someone's got a profile picture for the rest of their lives.

[–]Sieziggy 8 points9 points ago

Can you imagine showing that picture to your kids or grand kids one day? I'd imagine it would be enough to inspire an entire familial generation of prospective astronauts.

[–]ITJUSTGOTREAL1403 1 point2 points ago

Being an astronaut will not be a big deal for grand kids / it will be similiar to being an airline traveler, one can only hope the tsa will be gone.

[–]The_Music 1 point2 points ago

I beg to differ. People always seem to laugh how in the 50's, they thought the 2000's would be like the Jetsons, and much more futuristic than it is today. But yet, we still make insane predictions about our short future.

[–]rsayers 1 point2 points ago

True, but in many ways we have surpassed other predictions. Watch the original Star Trek. Aside from teleportation and warp drive, technology is generally more advanced than what they had on the show.

[–]ITJUSTGOTREAL1403 0 points1 point ago

iPhone and internet far surpasses any depicted future tech

[–]dlpwillywonka 0 points1 point ago

Pilots are still impressive to me.

[–]Real_Muthsera 42 points43 points ago

I've seen that picture before. But it such an inspiring picture, I just simply love it. There is something profound about it, that I can't place my finger on. I think it's the serenity of it all.

[–]Great_Gig_In_The_Sky 25 points26 points ago

I like to think that when you have that kind of perspective, national boundaries and cultural differences blur together and become insignificant.

[–]cynognathus 63 points64 points ago

You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics looks so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, "Look at that, you son of a bitch."

--Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell

[–]feureau 2 points3 points ago

I like him.

[–]red_nuts 4 points5 points ago

She might be thinking that if she put her forefinger and thumb just so, she could crush the heads of all the (which is it this week, Eurasians or Eastasians?) at once.

Probably not though.

[–]SanityClaus 0 points1 point ago

Yay! Headcrusher! I miss Kids In The Hall!

[–]TheMetalMatt 4 points5 points ago

I know what you mean... I've seen many pictures of the Earth from orbit, and this one somehow strikes a chord. Maybe it's that there's a person in the picture.

[–]alexgmcm 2 points3 points ago

It looks like the cover to a sci-fi book.. but it's real-life! :D

[–]DukeBerith 1 point2 points ago

To me, it reminds me of the sense of wonder and fascination you have as a child.

This picture reminds me of when I'd go to the beach as a child, and instead of swimming with everyone, I'd just lie down next to the rockpools and watch the ecosystem come to life as the day went on.

[–]nicecrispybacon 1 point2 points ago

"you can't take the sky from meeeeee"

[–]Solomon_Gunn 11 points12 points ago

Reminds me much of the opening of mass effect 1

[–]feureau 2 points3 points ago

And Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

[–]Davesbeard 12 points13 points ago

Ripley!!!

[–]Markulatura 0 points1 point ago

glad that i'm not the only one who was confused by the picture D:

[–]SplodeyDope 8 points9 points ago

Some women, just want to watch the world turn.

[–]wildcard1992 7 points8 points ago

I just realized how much easier it would be to take a self portrait in space. You just leave the camera there on a timer and wait. You don't need a tripod or a table or anything to rest the camera on, it just floats there.

[–]ricodued 29 points30 points ago

Good luck not accidentally even slightly touching the camera to send it spinning on any axis.

[–]LeonardNemoysHead 5 points6 points ago

You're not going to perfectly stabilize the camera in the interior reference frame, though.

[–]Chetic 0 points1 point ago

In the future we can have ion thruster addons instead of tripods :)

[–]pineconez 3 points4 points ago

Sadly, ion thrusters don't really work in an atmosphere. :/

[–]yotz 2 points3 points ago

You'd think that, but they typically use loc-line brackets or bogen arms to mount still and video cameras to the inside of the station.

[–]IlikePez 21 points22 points ago

That's the hottest woman I've ever seen. She is in SPACE bitches. That's motherfucking hot.

[–]USAF503 11 points12 points ago

I would love to be in SPACE bitches... I can't even get in normal bitches though :/

[–]IlikePez 1 point2 points ago

Space bitches probably want to vet DNA, as well they should. That just makes them more hot to me.

I don't have a shot, but I can still dream.

[–]XXLpeanuts 0 points1 point ago

Actually its quite the opposite of hot, more like absolute zero cool, although where she is will be an artificial pressurised atmosphere at a comfortable room temperature id imagine :D.

Edit: Its been over a year since i've had sex, i think i know why now.

[–]TacticalBananas 5 points6 points ago

Below her arm...it looks like another arm with a belt tied round the elbow. what is that

[–]yotz 2 points3 points ago

It's a head rest for people using the cupola for robotics ops.

[–]teetow 1 point2 points ago

I need to know this. I can't unsee it.

[–]rabidfurby 3 points4 points ago

I'll be in my bunk (strapped down so I don't float away).

[–]goldenrod -4 points-3 points ago

zero-G spooge.

[–]batoutheartist 1 point2 points ago

has not officially happened yet!

[–]feureau 1 point2 points ago

Didn't they come up with sex-in-space suit?

They did: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2suit

[–]Pyro627 0 points1 point ago

Did you get that from a chain E-mail?

Edit: I stand corrected. I was thinking of a fake chain email talking about NASA doing space sex experiments.

[–]feureau 0 points1 point ago

Actually, from reddit.

[–]batoutheartist 0 points1 point ago

nope it was a suit to bring two together into close personal proximity which it did during the test, but there was no actual copulation... there was a porn that also proclaimed to do it in zero g/ micro gravity, but it is faked.

[–]jhnhines 1 point2 points ago

How? They are up there for some time, how do they resist? I can't even go a full week with out raping myself.

[–]batoutheartist 0 points1 point ago

note the word "OFFICIALLY" ...

[–]natranr 4 points5 points ago

Is that River Song?

[–]singer_table 2 points3 points ago

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/expeditions/expedition24/index.html

Here you can find more information about the Expedition, as well as Tracy Dyson's bio.

[–]quantumwork 2 points3 points ago

I'm pretty sure that's River Song.

[–]iesvs 1 point2 points ago

I know this post has been up a while, and I keep seeing it, so I have to ask: These space photos always seem to have heavier noise than most. I know with the wrong camera settings even photos from the surface can turn out similarly. I'm just curious if that's an artifact of the space environment--cosmic rays and whatnot--rather than a camera limitation?

[–]futur1 4 points5 points ago

she is attractive.

[–]WordsNotToLiveBy 1 point2 points ago

AILF!

[–]MrDanger 5 points6 points ago

That picture is incredibly hot.

[–]bwill323 -4 points-3 points ago

She can ride my rocket anyday.

[–]Twotest 2 points3 points ago

Haha, it's funny because she never will!

[–]ChrisHernandez -1 points0 points ago

Three words : sex in space

[–]the_littlest_viking 2 points3 points ago

...has got to be really messy.

[–]ChrisHernandez 0 points1 point ago

Oh wow the possibilities

[–]spz456 0 points1 point ago

What a great photo.

[–]serosis 0 points1 point ago

I find it taxing to think they would not wear a more comfortable style of pants. Or perhaps just wear pajamas constantly. You would think you would want something a bit stretchy that could let your body flex.

[–]Volte -1 points0 points ago

"Ya know, I'm just chillin...... in my spacecraft"

[–]meetoohighlx 0 points1 point ago

looks so peaceful

[–]Industrialisto 0 points1 point ago

Must be nice.

[–]bluenoser613 0 points1 point ago

Awesome shot. Do you need to "lean" on an elbow in microgravity? The pose makes the shot more realistic though.

[–]the_crumbling_temple -1 points0 points ago

Dat earth.

[–]Minifig81 -1 points0 points ago

Dat Zero-G.

[–]Yorikor -1 points0 points ago

Should have made a duckface. Highest flying duck ever.

[–]obscure123456789 1 point2 points ago

The first space pin-up.

[–]Qbertoh 0 points1 point ago

Dat Astronaut

[–]hatperigee 1 point2 points ago

Why does she need to rest her head on her right arm? There's no (or very little) gravity

[–]szilard 8 points9 points ago

If I recall correctly, she said it was awkward to pose for this picture, as she kept floating off.

[–]hatperigee 0 points1 point ago

Where did you hear/read that?

[–]szilard 0 points1 point ago

It think it might have been an io9 or gizmodo article. But reddit does not like those sites, so I didn't mention it earlier. I can't seem to find the source yet though.

[–]BuickTime 1 point2 points ago

Makes sense. Look at her left arm, it's flexed and pushing her against the bulkhead. She's trying really hard to look relaxed.

[–]Rockran 1 point2 points ago

She doesn't, it's purely for show.

If you look at her hip, most of her isn't even in contact with the window.

[–]TaskForceDANGER 1 point2 points ago

This picture is what makes me realize I couldn't be an effective astronaut. I'd sit in that observation bubble and never leave.

[–]hett -2 points-1 points ago

I want to get stoned there.

[–]CheesusDairyMessiah -1 points0 points ago

The only time it's okay to take a self shot.

[–]LeonardNemoysHead -2 points-1 points ago

Nice photo, but I can't look past how you can't prop your head up like that in zero g. I'm being a pedant.

[–]Archaeodokely 2 points3 points ago

It also might be difficult to have your clothes and hair float in normal gravity...
