Your center of balance changes a lot while pushing mongo, and therefore you are more likely to fall and hurt yourself. If you push regular, your weight stays over the board instead of behind it.

No one pushes mongo because they think it's cool. It just felt more natural to them and they stuck with it. I started mongo and went to regular because I wanted to learn both ways.

The only reason most people do it is because they assume that's how you're supposed to do it (my reason when I first started) or they like to stop, lean the board and rotate it with their back foot while their front foot is on the ground, then keep going. It kind of helps when you can't turn well, but is inexcusable after you have progressed to ollies, etc.

I pushed mongo when I started skateboarding as a teen, when my friends eventually set me straight and I learned the right way I ended up being just as good at pushing switch normally as I was pushing regular. So while most my friends pushed mongo switch, I pushed normal both ways.

I still dont see what this gif has to do with mongo. The kid successfully planted his feet on the board, corrected his steering to line up and then failed at trying to get over the board. It doesnt look at all like it mattered how he pushes or which way he faces

As someone that pushed mongo when I first started skateboarding (thanks, dad, great tip) and now pushes regular when regular and switch, yes, I can confirm this. Mongo is very unstable when going fast.
