These trees are so neat! Just saw them this week while in Maui on our road to Hana tour. They look so surreal, especially when you go past a cluster of them.

They have a big one in Miami's Fairchild Garden for anyone in that area who wants to see what they look like. They are actually more impressive in person because photos can be over/undersaturated.

Yes, its beautiful and we were actually very thankful that we took the tour instead of driving it in our rental car. My husband would have gone crazy from driving all the turns and I didn't like the drop offs. Haleakala was bad enough!

People think that the people who repost stuff do it on purpose. In all likelyhood they don't. What most likely happens is someone they know sees it on reddit and either shows them, or posts it to facebook. The OP thinks it's really cool and submits it to reddit, then the same thing happens again. People can see these pictures on MANY websites other than reddit.

That's a fair point. I guess what I was going for is that I tend to see them in clusters. You'd think that if it was just "hey I found a cool thing" it would be more likely to be spaced out, but time after time they're in a cluster. Though maybe that's just my selection bias.

This particular species (Eucalyptus deglupta) isn't actually found naturally in Australia and definitely wouldn't be found in the snow, it's strictly a tropical species. Looks like the intensified paint they used on the Hobbit set. The digital cameras they are using tend to wash color out a bit, so they bump the color saturation in order to make it look normal in the finished product. So stoked for that movie (movies)!
