If only real life could be as exposed.

[–]kensai11 15 points16 points ago

I have a love/hate relationship with photos like these. They make real life seem not as good as it should be.

[–]juloxx 2 points3 points ago

he is probably having an awful time, its just a good camera man lol..... but real talk, thats how shit should look when your lookin at the night sky. Light pollution is a necessary shame :(

I've been to the top of Mauna Kea on a moonless night. Real life NEVER looks like that unless the photo is overexposed.

[–]Nayr747 0 points1 point ago

In some places the sky does look like that. There's just too much light pollution for people to see it anymore.

Reminded my of this.

Crater Lake?

[–]dhpii 0 points1 point ago

Indeed.

Location: Crater Lake National Park, Oregon, USA.

From: http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/traveler-magazine/photo-contest/entries/gallery/winners/.

It appears he loves Oregon and starry nights (who doesn't?): http://www.flickr.com/photos/bencanales/sets/.

Photographer is Kamil Tamiola, here's the photo and his caption from his website.

"Have you ever wondered how does a mountaineer's day start? I will give you a hint: you wake up at 3 am, set the stove, wake up your partner, pretend it is warm, quickly consume a high-calorie breakfast, watch your friends slowly ascending the icy slopes of your dream summit with their tiny head torches glimmering against perfectly blue ice, and hope for the good weather. One would ask: why all this trouble? The answer is easy: for the love of the adventure and the unknown.

On this photograph, Kamil Tamiola of ALPINE PHOTOGRAPHY prepares for a long climb on the north face of Mont Blanc du Tacul."

That's almost certainly the terminal building for one of the two cable car lines that access the peak in the background on the right, and climbers with headlamps on the slope to the left.

What are the things that look like meteorites above the man but in ftont of the mountain?

[–]clarkster 11 points12 points ago

That would be people walking down the mountain using flashlights. This is a long exposure shot.

[–]keymaster999 0 points1 point ago

Cool, thanks!

[–]homiewitha40 0 points1 point ago

In a shot like this is the background long exposure somehow stitched to a short exposure in the foreground? Or did the guy just have to sit still for awhile or what?

[–]clarkster 3 points4 points ago

It can't be that long of an exposure as there are no star trails. Probably under a minute.

[–]keymaster999 0 points1 point ago

Thats what i thought as an amateur astronomer. Are those lights flashlights for sure?

[–]HarmonyInWork 2 points3 points ago

It looks so so cold i think i actually get satisfied of looking at this beutiful photo instead of actually making a trip like this.

[–]Kyguy0 1 point2 points ago

That's why I got a subscription to National Geographic, their photos are just awesome.

[–]sadsaffa 3 points4 points ago

Is that a car in the background?? (on the right)

[–]TheGnarwhale 2 points3 points ago

I think it's the Don Sheldon hut in AK http://www.thealaskalist.com/Sheldon_Mountain_Hut.jpg

The hut is small, so it's pretty common for visitors to cook inside but sleep in tents nearby

EDIT: nevermind. not AK. "On this photograph, Kamil Tamiola of ALPINE PHOTOGRAPHY prepares for a long climb on the north face of Mont Blanc du Tacul."
