こんにちは!お元気ですか。この夏休みに、私と日本語の先生とクラスは日本に行きました。あそこで、日本語は簡単になりました。

[–]Dochollister 20 points21 points ago

Mhmm. Yeah. Mhmm. Oh, yeah yeah yeah.

[–]Kiwilolo 8 points9 points ago

Considering how long it's been since I took Japanese, I appreciate you using very common kanji so I could feel like I could read Japanese for real. XD

[–]mclane5352 0 points1 point ago

Aha, I just don't know many complex words I guess.

[–]snuggle_fish 6 points7 points ago

Thank you for making me feel like four semesters of Japanese was worth something.

[–]mclane5352 0 points1 point ago

Welcome, if it wasn't sarcasm. The same if it was.

[–]noartwist 5 points6 points ago

I only know half of that kanji. Hiragana translation please.

[–]monstercake 9 points10 points ago

こんにちは!おげんきですか。このなつやすみに、わたしとにほんごのせんせいとクラスはにほんにいきました。あそこで、にほんごはかんたんになりました。

[–]autumnsolstice 1 point2 points ago

嫉妬。

[–]mclane5352 2 points3 points ago

良い -。_-。

[–]monstercake 1 point2 points ago

こんにちは!元気です。私もこの夏に日本に行きました。でも、そこで日本語のポケモンゲームを買ったが、ぜんぜん分かりません。ざんねんですね。

[–]otakuAera 5 points6 points ago

Funnily enough, I feel the same even after 4 years of Japanese. >_<

[–]mclane5352 1 point2 points ago

僕も日本語の四年生です。APのテストはとても難しいですよ。

[–]ChoTai 2 points3 points ago

AP日本語がある?!知らなかっあ。

[–]monstercake 1 point2 points ago

そうそう本当なんだ。私も高校の時AP日本語をとったけどね。

[–]mclane5352 0 points1 point ago

そおだよ!

[–]otakuAera 0 points1 point ago

本当に?あのAPのテストを取りませんでした。私のハイスクールは日本語の授業がなかったので、大学で日本語を勉強して始めました。しかし…最近、日本語をあまり練習していないので、私の熟練(じゅくれん:proficiency)は下手になってしまいます。v_v

練習したいのに、難しいです。この五月に卒業したから、練習し方や勉強し方を見つけられません。

Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger; Can I take your order?

[–]OccamsAxe 6 points7 points ago

As a former 4-year-old, I can tell you that pokemon helped me learn to read. Just stick with it and eventually you'll be able to read most of these words.

[–]Goreiilar 5 points6 points ago

As a current 4-year-old... Wait, what?

[–]Neato 1 point2 points ago

As a previously 4-year-old I am impressed with your mastery of english at your age. Hooked On Phonics?

[–]DragonMeme 2 points3 points ago

watashi wa sono .... feel .... shirimasu, ani

[–]monstercake 3 points4 points ago

私、そんな気持ちよく分かる, アニキ

[–]WhatsRealLifeLike 2 points3 points ago

I played Japanese Green, the first gen. game that never made it to the US. I got by memorizing where I placed certain items, and then recognizing the character series that represented each ones. Eventually I was able to isolate character patterns that showed up on antidotes, and lots of poison-type pokemon, and that's kind of how I got through it.

[–]abush1793 0 points1 point ago

Incidentally, I have a copy of Japanese Blue that I haven't played yet. Should I?

[–]WhatsRealLifeLike 0 points1 point ago

Go for it. It makes the game a lot fresher.

[–]Jacoblong9 5 points6 points ago

Thats how i felt after taking 2 years of spanish, and then talking to my friend's maid XD.

[–]Jacoblong9 1 point2 points ago

thank you, i needed that XD

[–]monstercake 3 points4 points ago

Yeahhh, currently playing through a Japanese copy of Heart Gold. This is my life, even after 6 years of Japanese.

...They didn't teach me words like "shaking leaves" and "super potion" :(

Thank goodness for hiragana, katakata, and dictionary apps.

[–]IsThisWhereANameGoes[S] 2 points3 points ago

Why not just get English?

[–]ManningTheHarpoons 21 points22 points ago

Because it's hard to practice your Japanese playing the English version of anything.

[–]IsThisWhereANameGoes[S] 6 points7 points ago

Can't argue with that logic.

[–]monstercake 3 points4 points ago

Yep, basically this. I'm learning incredibly useful words, like how to say "attack" and "tackle" and "ember."

[–]Archery999 6 points7 points ago

Hyper Beam and Master Ball seem quite useful in everyday conversation.

[–]Goreiilar 1 point2 points ago

His Hyper beam and master balls...?

[–]Justice1022 0 points1 point ago

Watashi wa kono tame ni toransurēta o shiyō

[–]Neato 0 points1 point ago

Why do you have the long vowel symbols over the romaji? Is shiyō supposed to be しよう?

[–]redditor-for-2-hours 0 points1 point ago

My feelings exactly. You can still get through the games when you know the basic layout though.

[–]TortusW 0 points1 point ago

Felt this way in the same situation in college but with JP Platinum instead.

blahblahblahblah MONSTERBALL blahblahblah POKETTOMONSUTA blahblahblahblahblahblahblah TRY HARD

[–]naturalcauzes 0 points1 point ago

Letters...Kanji...letters. Yeah, got it now.

[–]SonnoMaku 0 points1 point ago

I remember when I got a Japanese copy of Platinum for xmas. I played it to the first gym leader then gave up. I had no clue what I was doing. It just sits there never played and I can't get myself to buy the English copy because I already have the Japanese one. I bought the guidebook for it a while ago but haven't given it another go yet. Thanks Grandma! =/

[–]Neato 0 points1 point ago

You should try /r/gameswap and see if anyone has a copy of english Platinum they'd want to trade for it.

[–]TheUnderdog2020 0 points1 point ago

Can em, someone tell me what this is from?

[–]Neato 0 points1 point ago

Good Burger sketches off of Keenan and Kel. Or possibly that SNL rip-off on Nickelodeon that I can't remember the name of.

[–]TheUnderdog2020 0 points1 point ago

Oh, so it is Kennan and Kel then. I thought it was some movie I haven't seen :L.

[–]courtjester27 0 points1 point ago

This is a scene from the movie Good Burger, based on the All That skit.

[–]Ramuh 1 point2 points ago

I remember when Gold/Silver came out in Japan and I had played blue and was a big fan of Pokemon, so naturally i wanted to play Gold.

I had a horrible Computer back then, did of course not know a word japanese, even my english was shady at best back then. Translation Patches for the roms were incredibly basic. I did not get very far i have to say.

But it was awesome

[–]mancan71 0 points1 point ago

it's how somebody who knows a little bit of speaking japanese when i watch anime in japanese and the video for the new black and white 2 games video coming out.

[–]Neato 0 points1 point ago

Is there Kanji in B/W? Otherwise I can't imagine someone who isn't very fluent being able to read it. The sheer volume of homophones is staggering. Not to mention how little sense some of the katakana foreign words make.

[–]atupomaruru 1 point2 points ago

Yep, you can choose between playing with or without kanji in the B/W games.

[–]Neato 0 points1 point ago

What's the best way to play japanese versions? I have a PSP that can emulate, a GBA SP, DSL and 3DS. I believe the 3DS cannot play imports but is that true for DS imports or just 3DS imports?

[–]Califer 1 point2 points ago

Fun times. I used to teach a Japanese class at a charter school. Throughout the year I would give the kids "awesome points" for doing awesome things (getting good scores, participating in class, etc.). At the end of the year I had a bunch of stuff from Japan for them to spend their points on. One of the top students spent hers on Pokemon Green.

[–]eiennihitoride -1 points0 points ago

It rubs it in further knowing the Japanese is simple enough for five year olds here to understand.

[–]pubstar1 -3 points-2 points ago

日本語は簡単になりました。。あそこで、私と日本語の先生とクラスは日本に行きました。この夏休みに、こんにちは!대한민국

[–]mclane5352 3 points4 points ago

Uhm, why did you mess with the order of my post?

[–]monstercake 3 points4 points ago

No, it's cool, it's completely different now. Look, there's some korean at the end.
