Motha fuckin comic books

[–]vivvav 12 points13 points ago

[–]synicalx1 2 points3 points ago

As a reasonably regular comic book reader, I feel borderline retarded for not know this existed before now.

[–]pootytangluver619 4 points5 points ago

I am just wondering, not criticizing but just wondering, how you did not know this. There is a subbreddit for everything relatively important on here. Hell, I found two, not one but two, subbreddits for Deadpool. Why the hell would there be two subbreddits for him? I mean he is my favorite comic book guy, but come on. And they both post different shit most o the time. Why not combine them into one almighty subbreddit? Sorry for going on there about meaningless stuff. Downvotes for me I guess. TL;DR Downvote this because it ended up being meaningless. Don't really though.

[–]synicalx1 1 point2 points ago

I too am asking myself why I didn't know that subreddit existed. I think I've narrowed it down to me just not thinking a comic-related subreddit would exist (I know, that makes little sense...).

No way would I downvote a legitimate question. Also, Deadpool is awesome I'm just starting to read some of his stuff on Comixology

[–]pootytangluver619 1 point2 points ago

Why thank you for not downvoting. I was feeling bad about going off in a random direction. But keep reading Deadpool because he is as awesome as nutella pizza.

The whedonverses are colliding... get ready for some thrilling heroics

[–]imjustmichelle 5 points6 points ago

I swear, if this line is in any Avengers movie to come, I will dedicate the rest of my life to tracking Whedon down and getting close enough to hug him and weep.

College could wait till then.

which one was referencing which? or did they both just have the same joke independently?

[–]voidsong 5 points6 points ago

Independently might not be the right word, since I'm pretty sure Joss was involved with both.

[–]dickMcFickle 5 points6 points ago

ohh right, I forgot he used to write for Marvel. That makes sense

Question: Is this an actual comic and if so what is it? I would very much like to read the context.

[–]The_Blackening 31 points32 points ago

I'm fairly certain this is an edited version of some of the panels from The Invincible Iron Man, The Five Nightmares Part 2.

As for the context, although it's not what you were expecting, this is a conversation between Thor and Iron Man following the funeral of the Superheroine Anitun, I believe they are talking about the events of the Civil War.

Edit: Found about half of the original: http://betweenthepanels.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/part3.jpg

[–]LittleBlessedVillain 6 points7 points ago

Damn, was hoping that was a real conversation.

Oh well, truth is good too. Thanks!

[–]ElanRosenfeld 5 points6 points ago

[–]LittleBlessedVillain 1 point2 points ago

Oh I'm well aware. I was hoping it was a real comic conversation. Some guy who liked Dr. Horrible sneaking in a goofy scene or something. Would have been great if that was the case.

[–]dissapointedorikface 5 points6 points ago

But... but... he WAS to blame for the events of Civil War.

God, I hate Civil War Tony so much.

[–]knobbodi 2 points3 points ago

Yeah he was a gigantic tool for pretty much that whole storyline. I loved when Thor hit him with a lightning bolt

[–]dissapointedorikface 2 points3 points ago

God, that storyline was the very first comic book I owned. I almost didn't get any more Iron Man comics because of that.

[–]neostorm360 1 point2 points ago

See, I know Im about to wake the hornet's nest... but I thought Capt America was being stupid in the Civil War. "This act is unconstitutional!" "Cap?... have you read the constitution?" In my mind, the Civil War was a way of adding a little realism by explaining and justifying why normal Americans would be ok with masked vigilantes effectively ruling their society.

[–]dissapointedorikface 2 points3 points ago

I agree with the whole superhero registration thing. When you have people who destroy cities, or even the world, just by wishing it so, you need to keep some sort of tabs on them. I just think Tony was a dick about it. Instead of trying to settle it peacefully and diplomatically, he was the one who declared full-on war on the people who were, understandably, against the idea. He killed his former "friends" without an ounce of remorse. While CA's personal opinion might have been wrong, he was at least somewhat ethical in his dealings with the "enemy" and absolutely hated killing the people who he had considered friends.

[–]neostorm360 1 point2 points ago

Not to argue about a comic book plot that happened 5 years ago, but I disagree with the sentiment that Tony was any more violent or aggressive about it than the anti-registration side. It's possible my memory is clouded, but I only distinctly remember Goliath and Cap dying on the anti-reg side. Goliath was an accident (mostly Mr. Fantastic's fault imo) and CA died from an assassination that had nothing to do with the war, and both were mourned heavily by Stark.

On the other side of the fence, CA waged a brutal guerrilla war on American soil against a group of super heroes, shield agents, and police who were just trying to enforce an admittedly flawed law. Was he wrong? I wouldn't say so. But he never really seemed to justify the logic behind his movement, and that has always left me deeply unsatisfied.

[–]MisterMcFancyPants 1 point2 points ago

This is going to get really nerdy, really quick, but Tony was throwing their friends into a jail in the negative zone. Captain America understood that giving up hundreds of heroes identities could put them, and their loved ones in danger. Spider-Man was the perfect example of that. He unmasks, and the Kingpin targeted Aunt May. Captain America was trying to fight against that

[–]neostorm360 0 points1 point ago

Ok, you're right this is going to get nerdy. I shall do my best to not rage, or provoke raging.

Stark was throwing criminals into a prison. Yes, they're criminals we all know and love (Daredevil's arrest scene was amazing) but they knowingly broke the law. That makes them criminals. I'm not going to try to justify the law, but Ironman was enforcing it, and that IS justifyable. I don't blame cops who arrest people for smoking marijuana. I think it's a stupid law, but I can't blame the people who enforce it as part of their job.

Aunt May getting killed was tragic, and (while no one can deny it led to some of the best plot lines SM has had in years) it was a direct result of him complying with the registration act. Here's the thing: Cops take this risk. Cops HAVE to take this risk to protect us. I wouldn't want to live in a world where police hide their identity and are not scrutinized by those that have authority over them. Even if you disagree, I think it reasonable to suggest that if we lived in a US that was overrun with masked, superhuman vigilantes and criminals, that a fair share of our citizens would at least want someone in our government to know who these people are, and what they can do.

[–]dorekk 0 points1 point ago

God, that storyline was the very first comic book I owned.

Oh god are you eleven years old?!

[–]dissapointedorikface 0 points1 point ago

I'm 15, got it at 14. I had always sort of been into Marvel stuff, watched the cartoons, played the games, watched the movies, etc. etc. But I never actually had read very many comics, mainly because I never really had time to go out and pick some up. That changed when I had to get surgery, so my parents took me to a bookstore to pick up some books as I would be bedridden a few weeks after the surgery. So, I picked up Civil War, a Halo Comic, and a Deadpool comic.

[–]pooponagoose 9 points10 points ago

I wonder why in the comics and cartoons, Thor is usually always wearing his helmet. In the movies he wore it...I think in just the beginning. Was it uncomfortable or something?

[–]LeonHRodriguez 40 points41 points ago

it was so we (the audience) would get to see Chris Hemsworth's pretty face as much as possible - you'll notice they did the same thing with Cap's mask

[–]thelibrarina 14 points15 points ago

To be fair, Cap's mask makes him look like kind of a tool.

[–]terrible20somethings[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thank God.

[–]SolidSquid 7 points8 points ago

So... why is Thor so interested in rubbing his hammer against Iron Man's chest?

[–]thelibrarina 6 points7 points ago

I don't know, but I would like to see that in the sequel.

[–]hargmarglin 7 points8 points ago

Technically, wouldn't it be his "GodHood"?

[–]m42a 9 points10 points ago

I really do hope they make a sequel to both of these. (Avengers is a definitely, I know.)

Dr. Thorable?

[–]zen_monkey 4 points5 points ago

Hmm. Now I know what Wonder Woman is talking about when she mentions her Golden Lasso.

[–]failed_novelty 10 points11 points ago

???

She's referring to the fact that she has a magical, unbreakable Golden Lasso. Anyone tied up by it must speak the truth.

She also ends up tied up by it regularly. She was created by a BDSM fetishist.

[–]albrano 1 point2 points ago

The only reason I keep her around is on account to MASSIVE TITS
