I've seen it so many times now, I can make it appear in either direction.....usually she is just swinging alternate foots behind her.

That may only work on smaller images. If I had a screen sized one, it may fail and I would be stuck going in some direction.

IF you look at her leg and out of the corner of your vision you look at the foot, the foot will match the direction that her leg is rotating, but if you focus only on the foot, it switches to always rotating clockwise.

For anyone looking for a quick Mind-Fuck, i just found an interesting one. Take the left rotating girl and match it with the center one and visualize the front of the face on the middle, as the middle one doesn't have eyes. Now you should be able to match up the front of the face for both left and right images. Now if you look at the right image the face is reversed. Not only that they should be rotating in opposite directions but that the front of the face on the right image is going behind the figure as the face on the middle is going in front. Now brain tweak the image so that you see the right image matched with the left image, i.e. rotating the same way in your brain. What do you see? The faces should match up even though a minute ago they were in opposite directions.

Seeing her go clock wise is hard for me because of her shadow. When the foot goes towards the back, you should be able to see its shadow, and when it is up front, you can't. The shadow ruins the effect for this one.

EDIT: I see now that the shadow makes sense if the source of the lighting were different.

Look carefully.

Once you have two reference points on the torso which are at an angle to either direction of rotation, you don't have to pay any attention to the leg, and make the image "flip" in your head, just as easily as you can flip a perspective drawing of a box to look concave or convex.

There only is one logical direction of rotation. Since there is a reflection at the bottom, that can only be seen at a certain position of the body, and given the camera angle, she has to rotate counter-clockwise (when looking from above), or as emphasized on the right.

So heres something to try:

look close and cross your eyes as if it's a "magic eye" image. Both images on the side will overlay on the center image for two images going in opposite directions.....not sure if you knew this but this trick works incredibly well for those FIND THE DIFFERENCES games where two pictures have subtle changes. (the subtle changes show up blurry in the image thats been created from the two images side-by-side combined).

Look motherfuckers: you can't just "have something go" clockwise or counter clockwise, the object needs a face of reference. With the clock, the face is the side with glyphs to denote time, because that's the clock face; with this, you need to specify the face, whether it's from below or above, since there isn't an actual clock. Wow this pictures so accurately sums up academic science. Most scientists are aware of the center figure, they do experiments to the direction of the turn, and depending on the experiments they do they either determine the figure goes left or right. However, which ever way they decide the figure turns, they also have data that shows the figure turning the other way. And for the sake of publishing their work and furthering their pathetic careers they simply go with the direction that is supported by the majority of their data while completely ignoring the opposing set of results.
