Protip: Unsubscribe from them.

[–]Nowin 2 points3 points ago

I did this not too long ago. I only have /r/baseball, /r/worldnews, /r/stephenking, r/books, and a few obscure programming reddits. I live a much better life.

[–]thebmarinara[S] -1 points0 points ago

But I don't want to!

[–]OriginalSyn -1 points0 points ago

Well then you're part of the problem.

[–]thebmarinara[S] -1 points0 points ago

That doesn't make sense.

[–]OriginalSyn -1 points0 points ago

It make's perfect sense, you're complaining about the content of your frontpage but are unwilling to do anything about it except contribute to the cancer.

[–]thebmarinara[S] 0 points1 point ago

If you want to argue that this post is a contribution to the "cancer", that's an argument to hear. That's not what it sounds like you're saying. It sounds like you're saying that I am contributing the the cancer by refusing to unsubscribe to subreddits that I once enjoyed very much (and am still hoping will make a comeback). That does not make sense.

Think of it this way. In one of the Halloween episodes Springfield was terrorized by advertisements come to life because people couldn't stop looking at them. Even one person watching them gave them life. Homer couldn't help himself so they lived on terrorizing the community at large. These over-populated sub-reddits are the advertisements and you're homer.

They're not going to magically turn back into what you onced loved. There's no going back, they are ruined because unlike large sub-reddits like /r/askscience they didn't have a team of moderators diligently working to fight back the cancer every day and now that's all that remains, a lifeless husk of what they once were, replaced by Karmawhores reposting and xposting stupid shit that the Homers will eat up.

If you want a sub-reddit to make a comeback you have only one choice. Spend as much time as you can in the new section of that page downvoting shit and upvoting the good and then convince as many people you can to do the same and you'll have to get the mods on board as well.

Point taken!

[–]Zeethro 0 points1 point ago

Those pages are 60% reposts, 30% karma related bullshit, and 10% new content. I can barely even look at r/funny now

...can anyone tell me the movie? I have seen a few GIFS floating around of it and it looks great!

[–]thebmarinara[S] 0 points1 point ago

The Big Lebowski. It's a shame you haven't seen it.

[–]marabear2685 1 point2 points ago

I am now putting it on my 'To be watched' list. Thanks heaps!

The more time I spend on reddit, the more cynic I get. I start seeing reposts a few hours to a day or two after they were just posted. I see people whoring out their pets, loved ones, dead people for something as insignificant as karma. I see people who expect me to upvote their post because they're sad, a loved one died or it's the anniversary that they signed up on the site, completely missing the point that the upvote is supposed to be used as an indication of good content, not because you're feeling down, need a pick me up or feel entitled to it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The sharp decline in relevance, originality, wit, and humor in the general content of the last month or so has been remarkable. From what I've noticed, it has literally happened that quickly. I would never profess to be the most original, witty, humorous, or successful redditor, but I possess enough of these attributes to distinguish between gold and crap. Where as the front page used to be 99% awesome, I find myself sifting though 60% of bullshit, or reposts as you said. I wonder if it's simply due to Reddit's increasing popularity, which will bring a natural decline in content as the more conventional types begin to contribute to the site. Again, I hate sounding like an elitist, but god damn it's been driving me nuts. I'll admit, I'm butt-hurt about the whole thing. I miss tearing up from laughing so hard at r/funny. Props to r/TIL and r/politics, though, for maintaining mostly good content.

And you decided to express this with a heavily reposted gif.

[–]thebmarinara[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Yes, I did.

[–]404AikNotFound -2 points-1 points ago

/r/cinemagraphs would like their .gif back.

[–]Jono-Tron 0 points1 point ago

That's just like your opinion man.
