Those masked People are called Krampus its a Tradition Here in Austria. Krampus is The opposite of The St.Nikolaus. The nikolaus Day is about 2 Weeks before Christmas and at this Day The childreen wich behaved Well Get Gifts so From nikolaus and The childreen wich Where Bad Get "punished". In this Night there are so called perchtenläufe Where Those masked and Dressed up People Run through The Streets crowded by spectators and Try to Scare The children and Show them that Bad behavior is Not ok . I Love this Tradition :)

I've heard a few variations on Krampus. I like it being st. nick's demon brother. In certain places it's considered ok to dress up as krampus and attack strangers (who in turn get good luck). Banned some other places due to severe assaults on people who let a stranger in thinking it's someone the know. THE BEST THING however, is the service you can pa to have a Krampus come to your house to stuff your naughty kid in a sack and kidnap him to traumatize the fuck out of them. Relevent
