    Can you teach me how to really properly pronounce "th" in "the" ? (Thelma saw an healthy teeth in the bathtub) I always end up saying dee or tee !

    I never order three of something in restaurants, I always ask for four because it is much easier to say! lol! In exchange, I will teach you common insults in French :D

    Also, when you read, how do you differentiate when to pronounce read and read? (see? lol!) Like "when you read", "did you read it?" and "Oh yes, last week I read it!" It is written the same way but there is two pronunciations! (or should I say "there are two" instead of "there is two"?)

    English can be hard sometimes... I just begun putting effort into it and reading reddit is helping me but, damn! Although those last four questions are my nemesis at the moment. Yes there are only three but I always say four instead! :)

    The th sound is made by pressing the tip off your tongue below your front two teeth.

    As for read. Red is in the past tense, "I read something the other day." Reed is for the future tense, "Here, read this." Reeding is for the present, "hold on a second.;I am reading."

    "Is" is singular, "are" is plural. There IS one, There are two, there are three...

    You would actually would use "become" instead of "became" in this instance. You use became when referring to a change something or someone underwent in the past: His constant grammar corrections slowly became annoying. Become can be used for changes that will happen in the future: His constant grammar corrections were unbearable, but happily he will soon become dead.

    P.S. You are a grammar nazi's dream. A chance to discuss semantics of pronunciation and grammar, and feel like you are helping someone! You are making a lot of very sick people very happy.

    The "th" sounds is made by placing your tongue directly underneath your front teeth.

    You differentiate between the two pronunciations based off context. There isn't really a trick, at least not to my knowledge. (And it would be "there are two").

    Learning a foreign language is extremely difficult, but you seem pretty good at English.

    To add to the wonderful things that Periculous22 said, there are actually 2 variations on the TH sound. "The" has a slightly different sound from "three." In both cases you put the tongue below the front teeth the but in words like "The" "that" "these" "those" and "there" there's somewhat of a vibration emanating from the throat, almost like the rumbling of an "r," but in words like "throat" "third" and "thirst" it's a softer sound, the exhale of air is a lot smoother, without the vibration.

    Unfortunately, I can't give you a rule to distinguish between when to use each version. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in and help.

    "The" is pronounced either "thuh" or "thee." Both are correct and usage depends upon local dialect more than anything. Where I am in America I use almost exclusively "thuh." In both proper American English and the Queen's English the sound is the tongue beneath the teeth and vibration sound described above, but I can see how when it is spoken quickly it can sound as a "d" to a person unfamiliar with the "th" sound. Researchers tell us that the range of sounds adults can identify are limited by the ones used in the languages that they were exposed to in early childhood.

    I don't really have on opinion on which actors have the best enunciation.

    Indeed! I know a dozen of native-english-speakers and they all have great difficulties saying the "eux" of the french word "amoureux" (it means "lovers").

    Try it! Go to Google Translate - French to French and type "Amoureux" then click on the little speaker on the right side at the bottom and try to say it!!

    My friend all just gargle that word ahahah... but then they take their revenge on me by making me read "The thirty-three thieves thought that they thrilled the throne throughout Thursday." I end up with my tongue in a nostril...
