The title insinuates it is authentic. I personally don't believe this is a place for photo shopped images. This is r/AdrenalinePorn not r/pics. Why not post as a link to the article or mention that it is a representation in the title or comments. I don't understand the need to blame a lot of the comments on taking life too seriously. Given the context I don't think that is the case.

I heard about this and I believe it. I wonder why they had to fake this picture. Really badly in fact. Look, even one of the strings (far right) isn't attached to anything above.

Those strings are copies by the way; each one has the exact same texture and the shading of the second (from the left) is inverted.

Edit: Thisseems to be a photo from the actual event (couldn't find a bigger one :( )

After taking a second look at it I believe you. It looks all wrong. The supports look poorly placed in, the reflections and lighting are all wrong. The whole thing looks wrong upon closer inspection. It would also explain why his chest and leg straps are loose and not properly tightened.

If you think about it, perhaps someone faked this picture because there wouldn't be another way to get a good picture of it from the side? How on earth would you even do that? You'd have to have two of those things side by side, or one hot air balloon next to it or something. Or take a picture on the ground and shop it into the sky.. which would make a lot more sense. But it would still be faked.

Or you could put a camera on a stick? It's worked for decades and with GoPro's it's now easier then ever.

Edit: After reviewing the video OP recently posted in the comments it appears that they were suspended under a manned hot air balloon. Now I certainly do not see why they couldn't of pulled off a picture.

Well, for one, he couldn't breathe at that altitude. They only took their masks off for very brief periods. For another, the table is unbalanced with just one person on it. They tried that in a test run and it went completely vertical.

There's also the safety concern of a heavy bottle of champagne falling 25,000 feet because nobody secured it to the table.

I agree that Survivor man is more realistic and helpful if you actually want to learn survival skills, but Man vs Wild is definitely more exciting and entertaining. Les Stroud basically just strands himself and starves to death for a week at a time.

Chair to the left. Zoom in. Grass can be seen through the backrest. All 4 wires holding the platform are obvious photoshop (and bad at that). especially the one furthest to the right that does not go out of frame. Who is taking this picture? how are they directly next to him at 25k AGL? This guys is so fake its disgusting.

While the picture is obviously fake, they actually did do the stunt. I don't understand why they couldn't get an actual photo either way though because it seems like they were suspended under a manned hot air balloon. Why couldn't they weld on a camera brace or support out to the side or have the balloon pilot with a GoPro on a pole?

He might of had a goofy little dinner under a hot air balloon, I guarantee that it was not at 25k AGL. Not with that balloon anyways. If putting on an oxygen mask makes things more extreme, then get your adrenaline pumping at the local retirement home...

From what I've read people have been reaching that height in balloons since the mid 1800's. Why don't you think they reached that altitude? And c'mon you can't compare high altitude skydiving to dying in a retirement home watching Jeopardy re-runs ;) I think they did it for the shit's and giggles more then anything.

I don't think his chest strap is loose; you can see the run off (i.e the excess bit outside of the bungee after it has been buckled) under the yellow strip on his left sleeve, which implies it's done up properly. Legs aren't too important, as long as they are done up. Anyway i'm guessing he tightened them before jumping, at least to stop getting some annoying flapping going on.

If you look at his jacket though it's open and hanging which made me assume it was loose (I didn't mean to insinuate it was unbuckled, just not tightened properly). I know it's not completely necessary and I agree that he likely tightened everything up before jumping (I'm sure it was for a better picture) but I know If that were me I'd feel way too uncomfortable. I'm a stickler about my leg straps though. For some reason they're the part of a rig that makes me the most uneasy.

Yeah the open jacket really isn't a good idea :-). Maybe he's getting ready to nick the bottle before jumping; I would, such a waste otherwise.

Wrong. People climb Mt. Everest without oxygen which is about 3,000 ft higher. Not saying it would be comfortable, but definitely possible. It also looks like he has an oxygen mask around his neck.

If he's going to stay up there for more then a couple minutes oxygen is needed otherwise he risks a severe decrease in cognitive ability or possibly a loss of consciousness. It may be possible but it would be stupidly dangerous. Also I don't think Mt. Everest is a good example. Sure people climb it without oxygen, but they take weeks to get acclimated on the way up. At 26,000ft you reach a point where it is physically impossible for humans to adapt at all (With the exception of visiting with acclimation for a small period of time. Can you explain or back up your statement that he doesn't need oxygen?

Dollar says this was taken wile the platform was on the ground as it was impossible to get a similar shot while it was in the air. The lines would have been slack so were photoshopped. The bottle was recut in, the person still couldn't be bothered photoshopping each individual hole in chair and platform though. When they were in the air they were wearing helmets.
