I don't get it, most of my books in college were $400 or higher. That is pretty normal.

[–]ben0x539 4 points5 points ago

I haven't had a book cost more than maybe $70 or so, and all of them were optional. Also I don't pay tuition.

Europe is pretty great.

If you're a Swedish atheist we can commence the circle jerking.

[–]nl_the_shadow 0 points1 point ago

Most I've paid for a textbook must've been around 100 euros (in the Netherlands). Not all of the books are optional, but after the second year, the amount of books rapidly decline and the amount of papers (= free download) increases. Tuition isn't free, but at about 1800 per year it isn't too much either.

What the fuck? I've never had a book over $150.

[–]jtothegill 0 points1 point ago

engineering and physics books were at least 400 each

abebooks.com

chegg.com

[–]rfmmiller 11 points12 points ago

utorrent.com

torrents.to

for all most of your textbook needs

[–]gin_and_catatonic 1 point2 points ago

I saved a bunch of money using Chegg in college and they also plant trees as part of their business model

[–]5kw3r1 3 points4 points ago

And that is why I am glad we have a textbook rental system at my university. Something like $75 per semester

[–]daman345 1 point2 points ago

Still pretty expensive

[–]5kw3r1 1 point2 points ago

Are you kidding? not compared to buying them at full price and being lucky enough to sell them at half of what you paid. Every few years books are replaced and are sold in the textbook rental center for literally less than a dollar a book that was easily several hundred dollars a few years ago. I have a small library of books (20-30) that I bought this way over the years and the information in them will most likely still be pertinent in the future.

[–]perezidentt 3 points4 points ago

I bet he's the author too!

[–]pancakehiatt 2 points3 points ago

Just makes pirating it so much more fun.

[–]Ilerea_Kleinokitz 3 points4 points ago

400$ for a textbook? Seriously?

[–]Disconsolate[S] 1 point2 points ago

You should see the Chemistry 1101 + 1101L book kit at my University's bookstore. Highway robbery plain and simple.

[–]Simrik 3 points4 points ago

And he will hand pick 3 out of the 50 chapters to actually use during the course.

[–]Spinner_Bait 1 point2 points ago

Let me guess; your professor wrote the book, too? Education monopoly.

[–]moogull 0 points1 point ago

your prof is an asshole

[–]TJ1497 -1 points0 points ago

Saw "professor" and then the gif, thought he had porn open....

[–]DubJ13 -1 points0 points ago

Tell your prof he is an asshole.

[–]lifelesslies 0 points1 point ago

i like you

[–]AbbieX 0 points1 point ago

Fuck pirating music....digitize text books and sell them on the sly...

[–]deannapolis 0 points1 point ago

Chegg.com or cheapesttextbooks.com

Good luck!

[–]isntthatrightkiff 0 points1 point ago

So what? Uni texts are expensive. Buy used, CourseSmart rental, get a communal copy to split with classmates, etc. Or don't buy the book and wing it.

[–]Gorignak 0 points1 point ago

Yeah because those guys know what textbooks are.

[–]MimeGod 0 points1 point ago

I'm working on my Master's and the most expensive book I ever had was $259, and I was able to get an international edition for $80. Most of my books I rent. My most expensive book so far for the semester about to start I rented for $80. ($255 new from the school) The other books I need only run about $50 each, used. One of my books the professor gave a pdf though, so I don't know that that would have run.

I'm surprised the book is $400 on Amazon, if you're buying from a school bookstore it isn't as surprising, those are generally significantly marked up, but Amazon usually isn't too crazy.

[–]cfh 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry but I wish I could consider that an expensive book for me...

[–]knowles42 -1 points0 points ago

jersey shore deserves a downvote.

[–]Fender6187 0 points1 point ago

Probably not the best choice for the caption. That douche has probably never touched a textbook let alone paid for one. I'll hand it to you on the expression though. hahaha

[–]underdabridge -4 points-3 points ago

Can ya fuck off with the reaction gifs?

[–]Ihadacow -1 points0 points ago

This is the part I really enjoyed about being an English major. The majority of my texts could be bought used for just a couple dollars. I had a Shakespeare course where all the plays cost $11 total. Nice part is you can still get full grant money from the university as if you had to pay hundreds.

[–]We_Kill_Gods 0 points1 point ago

That's ridiculous. I remember a thread while back where a professor made everyone buy a textbook (cost $150) and they never end up using it.

No surprise the author of the textbook was....yeah u guess it...mr professor

[–]elconquistador1985 0 points1 point ago

The professor barely gets any money from the sale of a textbook he wrote himself. Most of the money goes to the publisher. Honestly, why shouldn't a professor use his own textbook for a course? He's an expert on the subject and he took the time to write a textbook tailored to how he wants the course taught. What's the point of writing a textbook if you can't use it in your own courses?

Also, that's Dr. Professor to you.
