It is neither unbelievable, nor is anyone bitter. This was a joke at the stereotype (which in itself is a joke) that redditors do not have girlfriends. When I must explain a joke so explicitly, it makes me want to take a goldfish and ruin its self-esteem by painting it silver.

Not only that. It's the fact that quite frankly nobody cares if you have a girlfriend or not. Normal people I know healthy relationships don't have the need to tell every person they can that the have a girlfriend.

It's the difference between whether it's necessary to say you have an SO or not. Flaunting it is annoying, but there's no sense in talking in circles if it's easier just to say that you have a girlfriend.
