My honest opinion is that trollfaces are comedy on cruise control. Removing even the trollface comics, which are another argument entirely - by adding one of those stock faces, you are telling the reader how to feel about something without them making their own judgements.

It's funny without any added anything. Now if I was to add the 'forever alone' face onto it, it KILLS the comedy of the initial picture, because it obviously had no need for it. Most of the times, the pictures or videos SAY 'I got one over on you' or 'Forever alone' without it being tagged with those stupid heads.

Well said, I totally agree that trollfaces only provide one specific emotion while leaving no room for others. The only thing I may add is that trollfaces can be amusing when used to convey an emotion that is not easily recognized. Althou, trying to find a image that is funny with a specific emotion and having that emotion revealed only by a trollface is a very small sweetspot of humor.

let me rephrase. If you tell people when to laugh, people usually wont. Putting a trollface after he wins the girl and tricks the professor is telling the viewer LAUGH NOW HE DID SOMETHING FUNNY. This kills the joke.

All the ones I have had. The only complaint I've ever had is when I've looked at a business professor and their credentials and know that they basically have the same credentials I already have as a student. There's an odd aura of politics in the education environment, so maintaining face is somewhat necessary if I want to prosper at my job. I actually have to be "pleasant", which kinda backfires because they feel more comfortable about calling me down for stupid shit. On the other hand though, kissing the appropriate amount of ass makes the department look good, and if we look good, we can buy more useless shit for our office.

In undergrad, I only had one professor who cared if you showed up, and he locked the door one minute after class started. The rest, it was your problem. In grad school it's different, but you generally want to be there, and wouldn't skip a class with 7 other people anyways.
