The problem is that most of us are that way, but it seems that in the US there seems to be a lot of "trendy" atheists crawling through the woodworks like hipsters on a mission. I think a lot of people are unaware of what being an atheist is or is about, its certainly not about insulting or bashing other peoples religious views. Having no religious views of our own gives us no right to demean others. (unless they do or say something really fucking stupid, then have at it...)

As much as I like the sentiment of a group of high intellectuals who all reached atheism through the same, perfectly scientific route, it's just not so.

Atheism is solely the lack of belief in deities. It is not a philosophy, it is not a religion, and it is not a "trend." Sure, you can advocate for love and peace, but don't try to decide "what being an atheist is or is about" for yourself. If you do so, you are falling for the No True Scotsman fallacy, and you are fooling yourself. Atheism is only nontheism; try not to forget that like so many people do.

nobody claimed to be a "high intellectual" at any point. Most of us did not need science to tell us that the bible is plagiarized from numerous texts, or that it is sooo far fetched it's almost comedic... In fact it's the "faketheists" who continuously quote scientists who are part of the problem around here, free thinking does not mean "make a meme of Carl Sagan and pretend you are an intellectual", it means figuring these things out for yourself and researching.. People preaching atheism are no better than people preaching the bible, its a choice that should never be forced.

"That way" refers to OP's imgur photo. "That way" refers to joining atheism because of an understanding of the burden of proof, rather than for other reasons. "That way" is what I refer to as the "high intellectual," "perfectly scientific route."

Most of us did not need science to tell us that the bible is plagiarized from numerous texts

You are correct; just an understanding of history is needed. However, I know for a fact that not every atheist reached atheism knowing this information; I, for one, only learned such things after declaring atheism.

or that it is sooo far fetched it's almost comedic...

In your opinion; I just find it sickening.

In fact it's the "faketheists" who continuously quote scientists who are part of the problem around here

By "faketheists", you refer to every theist that (you claim) does not understand their own religion? Or is this some play on "fake" and "atheists?"

If the former: the messages in the Torah, Bible, and Quran are mixed. One can use them to claim anything, and still be following the religion to a tee.

If the latter: who are you to judge who is an atheist and who is not? Once again, atheism is solely a lack of belief in deities. There is no True-Path-To-Freethinking. There is no "mean[ing]" to Freethinking. Posting Carl Sagan quotes is not a problem; it is a means to an ends. In many cases, people have just discovered such quotes, and repost. In other cases, people use photos to garner karma. Nobody is "pretend[ing to be] an intellectual."

People preaching atheism are no better than people preaching the bible, its a choice that should never be forced.

Is informing people that another side exists truly "preaching?" Is debating religion "forc[ing]" the choice on others? At what point do we stop polarizing ourselves with this "respect" nonsense, when all it does is polarize us into factions of indifference?
