This is what happens when a fox has sex with a deer.

[–]bebesee 112 points113 points ago

Feer?

[–]MaxPowers1 95 points96 points ago

No. Dox.

[–]minercrafter2 58 points59 points ago

so if a dox breaks time itself, does it become a ParaDox?

[–]too_toked 75 points76 points ago

no, you only need 2 of them.

[–]znk 37 points38 points ago

I think you just have to drop it from a plane to make a Paradox.

[–]CokeSoulMyFather 0 points1 point ago

Don't make me drop your dox, sonny. I got my haxor friend Diet Pepsi on speed dial.

[–]RedditRidi 9 points10 points ago

Fear is right; this thing is like the Slenderman of animals. Imagine seeing this thing in the darkness behind you.

[–]didgeripoo 2 points3 points ago

[–]AttilaThaHungry 3 points4 points ago

Don't be afeerd, little one

[–]inefekt 85 points86 points ago

Evolution bitches......
"Native to the dry shrub forests and savannas of South America, their long legs give them an advantage while hunting for prey in the tall grasses found in these habitats."

[–]MaxPowers1 121 points122 points ago

Plus, also they look fabulous.

[–]Obj_solid 22 points23 points ago

Pretty sexy if you ask me...

[–]Scherzkeks 28 points29 points ago

I was totally convinced I've seen every animal that exists until this pic.

[–]natalietigertree 15 points16 points ago

Not every animal that exists has been discovered.

[–][deleted] 231 points232 points ago

Wow!! At some point it feels like you've seen every wildlife show and reddit repost ever, but then someone goes and posts this improbable and beautiful creature. I feel like I'm looking at something out of a fantasy book. Thanks!

[–]prmaster23 58 points59 points ago

I felt the same way after I went almost my whole life without knowing about Gharials. Never did I see any mention of them in Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, PBS, etc. Almost as if a crocodile cousin that only eat fish isn't interesting enough for for people to know them.

[–]rajanala83 9 points10 points ago

Nature never ceases to amaze me. I wonder if it can be trained as a hunting dog. It looks so fast!

[–]CoffinRehersal 2 points3 points ago

I doubt it. From what I gather from Wikipedia it's a solitary animal and doesn't hunt in packs. I would guess that that means it's likely to have even less social awareness when it comes to humans than a 'regular' wolf.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]skarface6 7 points8 points ago

It's endangered (or, at least, it was). I saw one at a zoo-type place once and they're kind of weird looking. Here's hoping they're doing better today than back then.

[–]perahan 51 points52 points ago

It looks like a Corgi's wildest dream.

[–]dorky2 48 points49 points ago

Cool! Looks like a fox on stilts!

[–]snarkamedes 43 points44 points ago

An antelope that can chase and eat you. Wonderful. Thank you, nature.

[–]clockingbird 1 point2 points ago

I used to play a maned wolf character on IRC RP channels, and I've been called that on more than one occasion.

[–]kiwi-smoothie 33 points34 points ago

Saw a few of these at a zoo in Netherlands. The urine smells utterly awful, however.

[–]Aaleinus 28 points29 points ago

How...why...nevermind.

[–]kiwi-smoothie 37 points38 points ago

"The urine has a very distinctive smell, which some people liken to hops or cannabis. The responsible substance is very likely a pyrazine, which occurs in both plants. (At the Rotterdam Zoo, this smell once set the police on a hunt for cannabis smokers."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maned_wolf

[–]Sojoez 31 points32 points ago

The ultimate stoner's pet.

[–]LeroyJenkems 16 points17 points ago

I used to hate the smell of skunk. Then, I started smoking weed.

I wonder if I wouldn't mind this majestic creature's pee smell.

[–]Radtown 5 points6 points ago

I walked by them in the zoo and turned to my girlfriend to see if she noticed the pot smell. Smells like some super chronic.

[–]SpelingTroll 1 point2 points ago

It tastes much better than it smells though.

[–]rawhide22 272 points273 points ago

Slenderwolf. O_O

[–]parkstreet 4 points5 points ago

Aww, no tentacles :(

[–]thegreatdane 34 points35 points ago

I was hoping, simply hoping that no one had posted this. But, nah top comment.

[–]fAntom3188 52 points53 points ago

You are not a unique snowflake

[–]d3l3t3 10 points11 points ago

Slenderfox FTFY

[–]FoxInASuit 4 points5 points ago

wouldn't that make it a fox in a suit?

[–]illdrawyourface 33 points34 points ago

[–]clockingbird 7 points8 points ago

Next, you should work on this guy.

[–]bernardery 22 points23 points ago

This looks like a fucking Avatar: The Last Airbender animal.

[–]lancelot12 9 points10 points ago

Closest thing I've seen is fox-antelopes.

[–]cookiemonstah87 9 points10 points ago

For those who don't feel like reading the whole wiki article, I just want to let you all know that while this animal has the word wolf in the name, it is not a wolf. And while it is often called a "fox on stilts" it is not a fox. There are 6 groups of canids recognized by zoologists: dogs, wolves, foxes, jackals, coyotes, and these guys. They have their own classification. I designed a canine creature based on maned wolves for a class and did a ton of research on them. Edit: added link

[–]fenikz 8 points9 points ago

As if Dali painted a fox!

[–]swagless 56 points57 points ago

I don't know whether to believe that it is real or not.

[–]Major_Butthurt 24 points25 points ago

67 to 107 cm at the shoulder? Fuck bears, I want a manned wolf for my pet.

[–]mainsworth 23 points24 points ago

26-42"

[–]akidwhoplaysguitar 13 points14 points ago

yeehaw!

[–]N8CCRG 4 points5 points ago

Haha, that typo is great. "Johnson, man those guns! Wakowski, man that wolf!"

[–]namesrhardtothinkof 25 points26 points ago

what the fuuuck

[–]i8wg 5 points6 points ago

All hail to deerdog!

[–]Phoequinox 9 points10 points ago

Slenderwolf.

Sounds like a Metal Gear Solid villain.

[–]blue_eyed_babe 3 points4 points ago

The Natural Science Center in Greensboro, NC has some of these in their zoo.

[–]PolarFrosty 0 points1 point ago

I just went the other day and the fuckers were hiding. Saw the anteater in the same area, though.

[–]Tingleyourberry 4 points5 points ago

The fact that it has paws instead of hooves is really fucking with me.

[–]Pumadidas 5 points6 points ago

Saw these on an episode of Go Diego Go. Not sure if I should have admitted that or not, but I did. I must say the IRL version is more stunning.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

And, interestingly enough, not really a wolf.

[–]Skanh 4 points5 points ago

So...It looks like a fox, it have legs like a deer and it's named "wolf". Nice.

Also: "The maned wolf is the only survivor of the late Pleistocene extinction of the large South American canids."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maned_wolf

[–]harriswill 10 points11 points ago

[–]azajay 2 points3 points ago

So, i don't really read titles anymore, i just sorta open them all at once, and if they strike my interest i check out the title. But as soon as i saw this, i muttered: "Look at this majestic mother fucker, thinks he owns everything and shit."

[–]squilliam132457 14 points15 points ago

DAT LEGS

[–]Cayou 47 points48 points ago

*DEM

[–]richworks 5 points6 points ago

'DEM' for plural...

'DAT' for singular...

[–]flamingsnot 2 points3 points ago

Damn those legs are LONG

[–]kjaya 8 points9 points ago

That thing -terrifies- me.

[–]stillnotking 20 points21 points ago

Sad to say, it has much more reason to be terrified of you.

The species once thrived and ranged throughout much of South America.

But maned wolves are now extinct in Uruguay, and remaining wild populations are increasingly threatened by habitat loss to agriculture. Through a coordinated Species Survival Plan, North American zoos are developing a hedge population of maned wolves.

Today there are fewer than 90 maned wolves living in North America, with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal holding the largest population.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points ago

To be clear: There are fewer than 90 living in North America. And they're all in captivity, because the species is indigenous to South America, where there are estimated to be 13,000-20,000 living in the wild. The population is on the decline but as of now the IUC classifies it as "Near Threatened", the second lowest category on the scale.

[–]AnotherIdleMind 5 points6 points ago

And they are. Different from "real" wolfs, maned wolfs live and hunt alone. They're pretty shy and get easily scared from humans, never attacking. Their jaw is pretty weak, suited only to kill small mammals and eat fruits and insects, so if somehow one decides to attack a human, it wouldn't be very sucessfull.

[–]flavorizante 10 points11 points ago

Brazilian here. I think I´ve never heard about one of these attacking a human. They are really shy creatures, living mostly in preserved areas. Also, they only feed on smaller animals. So, that´s not a hunt like the gray wolf does, killing bigger animals in bloody battles. It´s more like a fox behavior.

[–]rustyrobocop 2 points3 points ago

I'm from Argentina and I can confirm this

[–]suprsolutions 1 point2 points ago

Looks like a fox had sex with a deer. It's strange to think of it bounding off like a deer.

[–]The_Milk_Theorist 2 points3 points ago

the more I stare at this picture, the more it messes with my head. It's like my brain can't convince itself what it would look like running....twitch

[–]IgotNukes 1 point2 points ago

fabulous wolf

[–]dagoon79 0 points1 point ago

Here is a clip of one running, they can haul ass:

[–]SenatorBlutarsky 1 point2 points ago

Derewolves! I knew it! And they all said I was crazy...

[–]czar_the_bizarre 0 points1 point ago

I remember seeing this exact picture in Zoobooks when I was younger.

[–]docshivers09 1 point2 points ago

holyshit...i thought someone was just posting an awesome photoshop job. WTF.

[–]r0bp27 0 points1 point ago

This animal is actually nick-named the "Fox on Stilts" and lives on the planes of Patagonia, in case you were wondering.

[–]Shanhaevel 0 points1 point ago

As much as I love wolves this... brr shivers

[–]EldestSon 0 points1 point ago

giraffe fox

[–]Stupio 1 point2 points ago

I want to see what would happen if you bred one of these with a great dane. You'd basically get a horse.

[–]Graizur 2 points3 points ago

That's really interesting. He'd be smelly but his DNA would be stronger due to being mixed with a wild canid.

[–]the_str 0 points1 point ago

I want one. It could live in the boiler room.

[–]kutNpaste 1 point2 points ago

That's the Fantastic Mr. Fox

[–]d3l3t3 0 points1 point ago

Aw my gahwdd! Its foxdeerwolf. I told ya I was super sserial....

[–]TodgerPants 0 points1 point ago

That's a goddam Foxelope son. Don' git many of those aroun' here.

[–]DavidLee_RMNB 0 points1 point ago

Looks like a dear and a fox combined.

[–]ChrisMess 0 points1 point ago

If I didn't know it existed, I'd be all "well shopped, sir, well shopped."

[–]aflashfloodof 1 point2 points ago

It looks like it just jumped out of a fairy tale.

[–]tabascojr 0 points1 point ago

There are a number of these at the Denver Zoo. As I recall, their scent was second only to that of the skunk.

[–]morthond 0 points1 point ago

How can this be real and I have not heard about it until now?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

deer and fox railed

[–]a__f 0 points1 point ago

I had a moment where I read the title phonetically as "the Ma-Ned Wolf". And I was thinking, "I wonder where Ma-Ned is."

[–]jaytorade 0 points1 point ago

It looks like a land strider from the Dark Crystal.

[–]superphotonerd 1 point2 points ago

[–]pheeze -1 points0 points ago

Maned wolves are fabuloooous!

[–]Cheapshades97 1 point2 points ago

Slenderwolf

[–]Ben_Towle 1 point2 points ago

If you're in NC you can see some of these guys at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro. I was there a few weeks ago and, yeah, these creatures are badass. Apparently they're quite sensitive to loud noises, so when you're in their habitat you're asked to be quiet. Here's the place:

http://www.natsci.org/plan/hours/index.shtml

[–]the_new_meta 0 points1 point ago

Maned wolf is ok, but I it's not nothing on a wolfed man

[–]LazyOne1 0 points1 point ago

Saw one of those in a zoo... Jesus christ they're freaking huge in real life.

[–]progerialover69 1 point2 points ago

Reminds me of Remus Lupin from the potter movies

[–]josephanthony 0 points1 point ago

Fox on stilts.

[–]Cakeflourz -1 points0 points ago

That would look great in my living room!

Maybe I should call Chuck Testa...

[–]giantlion 1 point2 points ago

These guys are so amazing. Check out their roar-bark! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=oBSGEl-yB7A#t=46s

[–]expressmediaoh 0 points1 point ago

I thought of Vulpix when I saw the thumbnail.

[–]antithing 0 points1 point ago

stilts are ok, but where is the mane ?

[–]dormirbeaute 0 points1 point ago

Dem. Legs.

[–]brokendimension 0 points1 point ago

Damn, imagine in the 1800s riding into town on that.

[–]cuppincayk 0 points1 point ago

Deer and a fox had babies?

[–]Meowzilla221 0 points1 point ago

Slendermans dog

[–]Bebop24trigun 0 points1 point ago

If I remember correctly, Wolves and Horses actually have a common ancestor not that far back on the tree. So having longer legs like this comes as no surprise.

[–]El_Suavador 1 point2 points ago

That pose with the crossed legs makes me think it's saying "Bitch, I'm FAAAABULOUS!"

[–]magugas -1 points0 points ago

Wow, what a beautiful animal.

Looks like it came out of a Hayao Miyazaki movie or something, not sure how that came up to my head.

[–]DesiMuffins23 1 point2 points ago

Whenever I see this animal all I can think of is a fox that was hit with puberty in an awkward way. Lanky as hell with giant ears to match.

[–]Ninjaisawesome 0 points1 point ago

Lanky ass wolf

[–]hna 0 points1 point ago

They not only look great, but they have a majestic way of walking as well.

[–]seldn123 0 points1 point ago

Looks like a fox fucked a deer.

[–]darkangelx 0 points1 point ago

looks like a deer and wolf got it on...

[–]99TA 0 points1 point ago

"Foxy Long Legs" would have been a better name.

[–]ZakkDay 0 points1 point ago

Slender wolf.

[–]d510r9 0 points1 point ago

Look like The Fantastic Mr. Fox

[–]psych0ranger -1 points0 points ago

[–]Pimms_and_Patellas 0 points1 point ago

There was one of these at a local zoo near me, the local newspaper nick-named it 'fox-on-stilts'.

[–]whitew0lf 0 points1 point ago

[–]kallexander 0 points1 point ago

I am fabulous.

[–]truthinlies 0 points1 point ago

[–]PhDInSubjectAtHand 0 points1 point ago

I would freak out if I saw this jumping around my camp site in the middle of the night... Looks like a little satanic beast.

[–]dirtyjersey84 0 points1 point ago

[–]sweetgreggo 0 points1 point ago

This looks like something right out of Xanth.

[–]BeefPieSoup 0 points1 point ago

I shall call him Longfox.

[–]chesterfieldian 0 points1 point ago

My wife calls them the "Stinky Wolves." They stink up half the zoo.

[–]Tempost 0 points1 point ago

It seems to have such a short neck compared to its long legs. That's probably the reason why it looks so odd to me.

[–]RyderJ 0 points1 point ago

Talldog is tall.

[–]Draseph 0 points1 point ago

slender wolf

[–]Maxwineberg 0 points1 point ago

Yea i saw this on go diego go...its legit.

[–]peanutsmell 0 points1 point ago

[–]LoLingSoHard 0 points1 point ago

[–]ehhddie 0 points1 point ago

[–]Kupuka 0 points1 point ago

The natives here call it Aguará Guazú (means big aguará, big fox) and it's from a marsh area where he hunts.

The can be really, really big.

It's a portected species here so luckly people can't hunt them.

I've never seen one in the wild thou.

[–]chrismeyer2000 0 points1 point ago

kinda freaky with the long legs

[–]chaos_in_da_burgh 0 points1 point ago

I saw this at the San Diego zoo and my jaw dropped. He was loping back and forth with another in a large enclosure, and was just insanely beautiful. I could only imagine it at a full out sprint. Gorgeous!

[–]MisterScumbag 0 points1 point ago

dafuq? ಠ_ಠ

[–]hoobsher 0 points1 point ago

the slender fox.

[–]roogleason 0 points1 point ago

Wish to see this kind of animal. Is this a dangerous one?

[–]There-Wolf 0 points1 point ago

This guy is my spirit animal.

[–]NeutralGoodAndrew 0 points1 point ago

Can someone make a fixed version of this. Those legs are too long.

[–]turtlegir 1 point2 points ago

Creepy long legs.

[–]DiscordiaHel 0 points1 point ago

O.O Maned Wolves are the 'Slenderman' of the animal kingodom...

[–]wwwertdf 0 points1 point ago

Enderwolf

[–]CornFedHonky 0 points1 point ago

If I named it I would have called it the Legged Fox.

[–]samandstuff 0 points1 point ago

If it was dark out, Id call it Slenderwolf.

[–]Buttpoker 0 points1 point ago

That right there is the gayest wolf I have ever seen.

[–]Kozel_ 0 points1 point ago

"Bitch I am fabulous!"

[–]bementar 0 points1 point ago

the stilted fox! with an ipsilateral gait - these guys are fun to watch prowl!

[–]cheapsensationalism 0 points1 point ago

They are gorgeous, I've already seen one in real life when I was in Pantanal fishing with my dad. They have nocturnal habit so it's really rare to see one. FYI in portuguese it's called Lobo-guará

[–]mcqueeb 0 points1 point ago

Man, that thing has legs that go on FOREVER!

If you know what I mean.

[–]mcqueeb 0 points1 point ago

Man, that thing has legs that go on FOREVER!

If you know what I mean.

[–]TakebeSogu 0 points1 point ago

Slenderman's dog

[–]ehorgan 0 points1 point ago

Interesting fact: these animals smell like dead, rotting flesh.

We have them at one of the zoos here in Phoenix, and you can smell them over the piles of rhino dung behind you.

[–]dirtysantchez 0 points1 point ago

I'm sure I have shot that in Fallout: New Vegas.

[–]SulphuricJuice 0 points1 point ago

Literally only discovered these existed three days ago. Went to a Zoo in Devon (UK)

Go figure >.>

[–]an_ancient_cyclops 0 points1 point ago

I want to punch it

[–]JJrodny 0 points1 point ago

Shoop-de-loop. I'm not jumping on the bandwagon just because it's on Wikipedia.

A hybrid deer/fox with an eating disorder.

[–]andyp123 0 points1 point ago

Oh god, its slender fox!

[–]chioubacca 1 point2 points ago

This is the opposite of a corgi.

[–]rhesymeg 0 points1 point ago

But they walk so strangely! Edit: to clarify, they move both right legs together, then both legs. They do not do the normal right front+left rear then left front+right rear.

[–]macgiollarua 0 points1 point ago

Salvador Dali has been here.

[–]tigerx5 0 points1 point ago

Goofy wolf

[–]kerryoakie 0 points1 point ago

I know this will probably get buried, but I seriously had a dream about this animal two nights ago. Its body was more deer-like in markings, but otherwise was exactly the same. I'm now having a panic attack because this animal is real and it was trying to eat me in my dream.

[–]twofedoras 0 points1 point ago

Llama. That is all

[–]rollingdownthestreet 0 points1 point ago

Unfortunately they are highly endangered due to the fact that they compete with farmers for land. Very difficult to spot one.

[–]MisterDonkey 0 points1 point ago

Stunningly long legs. The supermodel of the animal kingdom.
