You do know that the modern day cow was bred specifically to be used for food/milk production...right? Even if somehow all the farmers decided to give up their pigs, cows, etc, there would be no chance of survival for them in the wild. If there was to be a "rehabilitation" kind of thing, there are not enough people to take in and/or make the 1.5 billion cattle 'skilled' enough to survive elsewhere.

Now, if you would like to attempt to remove all the changes made by breeding/injecting cows (genetic mutations selected and bred over the period of, well, centuries), please tell me how that goes when you have to breed the current cows to get ones that can survive on their own, but then have to deal with all the old cows...

We were meant to eat meat, we learned how to use animals, and even if you don't like it, that started at the near beginning of homo sapiens, and especially during the Neolithic Revolution which would now make it near(I say near, because who knows, maybe we wont need meat or food for that matter in a couple thousand years. shrug) impossible to change the world and animals enough to get to a future that doesn't use animals.

Forgetting all that, being a vegan to feel like you haven't hurt any animals, or created a situation where more would be hurt (not all animals are hurt or mistreated in the creation of human supplies, some paintbrushes, for example, use animal hair without culling the actual animal) wont make a difference. Companies create things in excess, which leads to overstock, because they have a huuuuge costumer base. If you don't buy a burger at a restaurant, that animal has still been killed already, more will be killed until the company goes out of business (if everyone suddenly stopped eating meat, in the case of McDonald's) and if not eaten by another, that animals life goes partially to waste when slabs of meat are thrown out.

Other animals eat meat and feel no guilt towards it, it's the way of life. Yes we are omnivores and at times can choose what to eat, but so are other creatures. You can make the argument that they can't choose what to eat, they don't know any better. But neither do babies, neither would anyone raised without interference. It is the natural way to be. Just be glad you are from a species that, if a sudden disease hit every single edible plant/animal besides human on earth, you would still be able to survive on the other.

Your eyes are towards the front of your face! You are a predator! You were meant to eat meat! You were given a brain capable of comprehending tools, don't feel bad about it! You have no idea of all the companies that are good to their animals and do care for them. All you pay attention to is the companies that have multiple stores and only care for profit and not the customers and farms.

Just go to a local farm sale or something, local farmers almost always care for their animals and will sell you plants as well as meat that had been given TLC.
