For me the karma itself is not reason i joined. I joined because i felt that my point of view of things was not represented on reddit. I really dont care about karmawhoring by posting pictures of cats but for me the karma comes to life when i have made a rational comment and people have upvoted it.

I really think we need to keep these posts in a respective /r/meta type subreddit. It doesn't really add to the community to refer to itself all the time. Really we shouldn't even be calling ourselves 'redditors', because it hurts our ability to think in a rational way. It encourages hivemind behavior, and discourages intelligent discourse.
