I don't understand what the problem is. They're just a music group for teens and the Olympic organizers were probably trying to appeal to a younger audience. I hate celebrity worship but I hate nonsensical celebrity hate just as much.

Personally when they came on I couldn't help but feel a couple of things.

  1. That they're a fad, like almost all boy bands. In ten years nobody will know who they were - can you say the same for almost every single other performer? I doubt it.

  2. They took the space of somebody who didn't fit the bill for number one. I'm no music expert but I'm sure there is somebody more talented in the UK than One Direction whose duration is longer... and who could also appeal to a 'younger audience'.

You don't know if no one will remember them in 10 years. The Beetles were a boy band and people remember them. N-Sync was a boy band and people remember them.
