You both are Wizards of the Third order!

[–]attckdog 27 points28 points ago

Up vote for a Sword of Truth ref

[–]mihaiminda 2 points3 points ago

For some reason, I read that as, "You both are Wizards of the Third gender!"

I was ready to ask myself wtf is a "third gender"..

[–]that-freakin-guy 2 points3 points ago

DUDE! SICK! You should make it go slower... And increase teh rez.

[–]FrankAbagnaleSr 212 points213 points ago

My parents find it hard to believe that talented people will go on the internet and do skilled labor for free. It's everywhere though: open-source projects, StackExchange forums, even reddit. I guess you don't need money to do what you enjoy.

[–]MandrewL 254 points255 points ago

Not for free. For Karma.

[–]CapnCrunch10 124 points125 points ago

So, basically for free.

[–]tree_man 135 points136 points ago

I'm guessing you dont know about the subreddit where you can exchange your karma for prizes/money.

[–]DatGuy45 46 points47 points ago

Hahaha how could he have gone all this time without knowing about it? What'd he think the whole point of this was anyway.

[–]JamesAQuintero 14 points15 points ago

Exactly! I was able to pay my mortgage off with all the karma I had. Has this guy been living under a rock?

[–]CapnCrunch10 25 points26 points ago

Hey... It was a nice rock and I didn't want to leave.

[–]rakantae 9 points10 points ago

Just traded in some karma for a fingertrap today.

[–]vitorizzo 24 points25 points ago

i think the subreddit is called /r/spacedicks where you can do the exchange

[–]DatGuy45 2 points3 points ago

No way, /r/spaceclop has way better deals.

[–]UhScot 5 points6 points ago

Instant regret..

[–]CapnCrunch10 3 points4 points ago

I've been so blind. Tomorrow, I'm quitting my job and mining karma full time. Thank you for opening my eyes. Have some karma partner.

[–]coltaaan 13 points14 points ago

It is pretty cool, isn't it? I mean, like you said, it's everywhere. And really it doesn't even stop at things like this. I was downloading a torrent the other day and I thought to myself, "It's really cool of these people to upload this." You know, it's more than "pretty cool." It's fucking awesome!

[–]bford_14 5 points6 points ago

It's for the karma, and the curiosity

[–]fourpac 1 point2 points ago

Welcome to the future (if we somehow manage to not mess it up).

[–]zuperxtreme 1 point2 points ago

Don't forget wikipedia.

[–]flip_flap 3 points4 points ago

It probably took him a couple of minutes. It's hardly a big job.

[–]ahandle 73 points74 points ago

[–]SuperSneaks 614 points615 points ago

I would love this as a Civilization map.

[–]dmgkevin0 408 points409 points ago

Modders of reddit, your mission is clear.

[–]elbenji 15 points16 points ago

We shall see

[–]basquefire 32 points33 points ago

This changes everything.

In our world, port cities are incredibly important.

But on this map, port cities aren't necessarily as important as they would be otherwise, because one doesn't need cargo ships to create global supply chains. But I think that places like the Panama Landbridge would be critical locations - and therefore metropolises - because they provide the shortest crossing place for transporting goods from the Atlantic to the Pacific continents. I imagine it would be somewhat like Istanbul.

The Mediterranean Peninsula and the Black/Caspian Islands also seem like they'd be interesting places.

[–]nathan1653 2 points3 points ago

I agree, panama land bridge would be extremely important. I have a feeling that area and the europe area would have a lot of economic growth. the europe area because of the more temperate climate and a string of large islands that could foster sea trade routes

[–]wolfincommand 142 points143 points ago

That moment when you look at a fake map and immediately start thinking CIV.

Welp, off to re-install CIV 3

EDIT: Also, whom else thinks Civ 3 was the best one ever made? I loved RAR mod.

[–]jesusinabottle 38 points39 points ago

Civ 3 confirmed for best Civ game. I still play 5 mainly now, but I could never get into it like I did with Civ 3.

[–]wolfincommand 11 points12 points ago

Four just never quite felt right. Like, the graphics of it just didnt fit. And then in 5, I loved every change except the inability to stack units. It just felt game breaking.

[–]SuperSneaks 74 points75 points ago

Stacking units was game breaking. Late game Civ just devolved into who could stack the most units in a tile and roll through their opponents. To me the new way warfare is conducted in Civ 5 is more strategic.

[–]notanotherpyr0 28 points29 points ago

I think they need limited unit stacking, like 3 per tile.

[–]wolfincommand 11 points12 points ago

I'd be okay with this. The bit of Civ 5 I did play though, felt just weird in that you couldnt stack at all.

[–]Watches_FoxNews 16 points17 points ago

Also on certain maps it becomes extremely hard to move around, taking cities that are only open from one side is an example since you basically have to walk in single file, a 2 stack I think would be perfect to allow you to have a mix in units and allow seige/heavy units to move to good positions without playing a puzzle with your units.

[–]jamie_byron_dean 27 points28 points ago

But that's the point of having natural defenses for your castle.

Non-stacking is more realistic and allows for cities to actually be hard to take if they're surrounded by mountains or oceans, just like real life.

Unless you are Carthage.

[–]Watches_FoxNews 3 points4 points ago

I agree, but my biggest complaint is that when it gets tight on the map managing your units becomes a mess as you have to switch units to do anything, I would like to be able to have my vanguard attack the opponent and then be able to bring units through from the back but maintain my front line. Especially when seiging, maneuvering your seige units near the city becomes very difficult.

I would like a 2 stack and then have it set as a main and secondary to with the main gaining 50% of the defense bonus and the secondary 20% (or something along those lines for attack strength). Similarly you get penalized in distance you can move when stacked. This will allow players to move large armies better but at a cost but giving the advantage to players who still maneuver with single stack.

[–]MyBlowUpDoll 11 points12 points ago

I played Alpha Centauri heavily after Civ 2, and then when Civ 3 came out, I figured it would have a lot of Alpha Centauri goodness, but when I discovered it did not, I was very disappointed. That said, Civ 3 was a decent game, but it felt very much like a transitory game between 2 and 4. A lot of things needed to be better fleshed out.

Among Alpha Centauri's biggest strengths: the unit designer, the rolling land form with variable heights, and the "story" around the landing on the Planet and the break up into factions.

[–]HelpfulToAll 2 points3 points ago

Don't forget the tech advancement quotes!

“Abort, Retry, Fail?’ was the phrase some wormdog scrawled next to the door of the Edit Universe project room. And when the new dataspinners started working, fabricating their worlds on the huge organic comp systems, we’d remind them: if you see this message, always choose ‘Retry.” - Bad’l Ron, Wakener, Morgan Polysoft

[–]alficles 3 points4 points ago

I regularly use Alpha Centauri quotes in conversation. "The question is not, 'Why would a God create a world with so much evil?' It is, 'Why would a God create a world at all?'"

[–]a-Centauri 2 points3 points ago

I'm relevant again!

[–]JoshIsNumber3 3 points4 points ago

Please don't go, the drones, they need you.

[–]Krumpetify 1 point2 points ago

They look up to you.

[–]otomotopia 3 points4 points ago

First thought. "Man, that'd be an awesome Strategy Game map."

[–]nick041 150 points151 points ago

I currently live in Michigan so I'm very happy to see that I'd be living on an island.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 148 points149 points ago

I placed a super big slumbering volcano just north of you guys so beware. >:D

[–]Squizz 64 points65 points ago

you bastard :)

[–]nick041 42 points43 points ago

The fuck, man!?

[–]Nocturnhabeo 10 points11 points ago

Well, there is already one to the west so... nothing really changed.

[–]random_digital 50 points51 points ago

Suck it Hawaii. Who's the archipelago now!

[–]Junkenpo77 14 points15 points ago

Seriously. I was just reminded that the Pacific Ocean is mostly "desert" and was seriously bummed out.

[–]T0PHER911 2 points3 points ago

Think Ohio can fit on that island with ya?

[–]NoseyCo-WorkersSuck 5 points6 points ago

This again huh? You guys think you're getting any land from us? NOT ON MY WATCH! WOLVERINES, UNITE.

[–]nick041 2 points3 points ago

We, the people of the Michigan Islands, will not discriminate against you Ohioans. You can gladly come and stay on our islands and get your complimentary Michigan Wolverines, GO BLUE, overalls, hat, and 'Ohio Sucks' tattoo. We're just that nice.

[–]timwontwin 255 points256 points ago

I can't unsee how it usually is. Taking a long time to even get my mind to register that green = land

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 241 points242 points ago

It was like that for me too, try viewing them while flipped horizontally, worked for me. Like so.

I've been trying to find a wiki article where when you see an image of anything familiar, but then flipped, your brain register it as a new image. Like a photo of a persons face - try it on yourself or a family member - anyone know what I'm talking about or where I can find it? thanks

[–]rattlemebones 69 points70 points ago

This is blowing my mind even more!

[–]dontforgetaboutme 28 points29 points ago

I just can't unsee south america

[–]caindaddy 10 points11 points ago

I just noticed that south america looks like a cartoon character with a big nose.

[–]ArcticSpaceman 10 points11 points ago

[–]Imperishable 53 points54 points ago

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 5 points6 points ago

Must be that I suppose! Should work with any familiar object, no?

[–]sixpintsasecond 8 points9 points ago

This is just awesome, great work.

[–]blackhawk465 2 points3 points ago

This is pretty cool. Thanks.

[–]0zymandia5 95 points96 points ago

[–]jorellh 147 points148 points ago

I'd like to climb the Marianas Trench.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 120 points121 points ago

This is what I wanted to do in the first place but got lazy and placed mountains randomly. I'm sorry. :\ Wait for world 1.2!

[–]nullCaput 36 points37 points ago

Cool looking forward to it! That was going to be my question is the map accurate topology? How long you think it will take you to make one with accurate topology? Awesome job so far by the way!

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 44 points45 points ago

Honestly, it wouldn't take me too long overall but I'm on a tight schedule with my irl job. I've been working on this a few minutes every now and then past 2 months whenever I had the time/felt like it. If no one else beats me too it, then I'd say give me another month or two.

[–]manbrasucks 13 points14 points ago

Is it possible you could do an accurate topology and simulate what it would be with the same amount of water we have on earth now?

Basically take all the water off the planet, reverse everything, put the water back on.

I think that would be awesome. I'm not sure what you are using to do this though, so it might not be possible. :|

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 12 points13 points ago

http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/topo/globega2.html

I plan on using one of them as a template, then just paste over texture from google maps etc. You could probably get a computer to figure out the water mass for you if you know how to code/script.. like make a 3d model of earth then uhh "paste" the volume of the water? I guess?

Rivers you'd have to figure out though.. where would the water kongregate from the mountains, which path would they choose etc.

[–]redmercuryvendor 11 points12 points ago

You might be able to cheat: get a whole earth elevation map, invert it (it's greyscale, so inverting flips the height of everything), then plop that into Terragen or something similar that simulates terrain formation. It'll at least give you something to go on for placement of mountain ranges, deserts, etc.

[–]Nocturnhabeo 6 points7 points ago

It would increase the total size of the planet by a bit because the average height of all of the land is less than the average height of water.

[–]redmercuryvendor 7 points8 points ago

Good point: shift the luma curve down slightly after inverting the heightmap.

[–]Nocturnhabeo 3 points4 points ago

And we have a solution.

[–]StupidSolipsist 2 points3 points ago

Someone else posted this link a little farther down. Apparently, if you invert the topography but keep the same amount of water, there's a lot less landmass than before. http://www.worlddreambank.org/A/ABY.HTM

[–]tm42 466 points467 points ago

This has to be one of the coolest things ever.

[–]lostpasswordagain 319 points320 points ago

I totally agree! Some things to think about.

  1. What would the weather be like with 75% of the earth now being covered in land vs water.

  2. What would the political situation of this be, seemingly the majority of land is now connected. Would there be a more united front?

  3. Transportation.

Oh man so many cool posibilites!

[–]SKREAM 248 points249 points ago

What would the political situation of this be, seemingly the majority of land is now connected. Would there be a more united front?

I bet there would be more conflict over borders.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 145 points146 points ago

That would probably only happen if you transfer today's population to it. :P You can alter the question in many ways:

  • if you'd put the beginning of life on that 'Earth', how would it evolve?

  • if you put beginning of mankind on that 'Earth', how would they evolve?

  • if you transfer today's population to it, how would they react?

  • if you transfer today's eco system to it, what would happen to it? which part would adapt, which won't?

[–]UltimateStoat 331 points332 points ago

I've got the answer for 3: The majority of humans would drown before they could reach the shore.

[–]xcforlife 88 points89 points ago

Fuck yeah I'm safe. I would have to swim 100 ft to be on land

[–]rockymountainoysters 50 points51 points ago

He's not a rich beach-dweller, guys. There's just a drainage pond in his subdivision.

....a pond which, tragically, he will soon discover is well above sea level.

[–]xcforlife 16 points17 points ago

fuck... you guys are on to me.

[–]rileyrulesu 3 points4 points ago

Hah! But I'm in Florida, meaning I'd have a minor inconvenience of ankle deep water.

[–]lunardeathgod 21 points22 points ago

time to take this to r/trees

[–]lostpasswordagain 52 points53 points ago

Thats a depressing thought but, you are probably right.

[–]DeFex 9 points10 points ago

We might not even have evolved at all.

[–]diskdragon 40 points41 points ago

not with that attitude we won't

[–]cyrenafame 35 points36 points ago

We'd have so much more room for activities!

[–]M0b1u5 82 points83 points ago

The Earth would be almost entirely desert.

There would be almost no polar ice caps at all, because there would be insufficient sea water carrying heat to the northern and southern polar regions.

It's unlikely the carrying capacity of the planet would be more than 10% of what it is today.

[–]warhorseGR_QC 23 points24 points ago

I actually what it would look like given that it was "inside out" but the volume of water on the Earth remained the same. I certainly wouldn't look like the picture. I think that would be an even cooler picture.

[–]teerreath 45 points46 points ago

Here you go. http://www.worlddreambank.org/A/ABY.HTM For those curious but don't want to check the link, barely 12% of the surface is land in this scenario. We have a lot of water.

[–]Sakinho 2 points3 points ago

This is a very interesting and fun source, thank you for sharing!

[–]manbrasucks 9 points10 points ago

That would be different than the picture and very interesting.

[–]Squeakerade 0 points1 point ago

[–]Canadave 51 points52 points ago

Chances are that humanity would almost destroy itself, but then realize that the only way to survive is to put our barbaric past behind us, and embrace the path of logic and wisdom.

TL;DR: Inverted Earth is Vulcan.

[–]pseudalithia 8 points9 points ago

I love you. Thank you. (I have recently become addicted to Star Trek.)

[–]DeFex 3 points4 points ago

But Antarctica sea would be completely surrounded by land, so no ocean currents could melt it. It could be piled up with ice to the edge of the atmosphere

[–]farfromjordan 8 points9 points ago

  1. Rivers

[–]DrLasagna 1 point2 points ago

A dryer earth for sure, less rain. I honestly think civilization would be less advanced with this much land. Or, it would be hyper-advanced, as there would be constant war and the need for technology. Third option would be world peace. I'm really curious as the what the mentality of people would be with this much land.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 35 points36 points ago

Thanks :D

edit - Woo reddit gold thank you kind stranger! <3

[–]thalescosta 29 points30 points ago

you should post it to /r/MapPorn

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 29 points30 points ago

Awesome place, will do!

edit and done

[–]repptar92 8 points9 points ago

Absolutely mind-shredding. Can you imagine what kind of awesome lore human beings would have about the wild frozen Poles?

[–]gurnard 2 points3 points ago

Or the nigh-unexplorable interior of the Pacific Desert?

[–]U731lvr 3 points4 points ago

and according to some quantum physicists it likely exists

[–]tm42 27 points28 points ago

I'm getting kind of excited thinking about my alternate self that said this about the alternate post that looks like our world.

[–]Darth_Hobbes 13 points14 points ago

And in one universe, immediately after reading this reply, you are teleported to kingdom of pudding and free-but-not-ugly-or-inexperienced prostitutes.

[–]nikc4 8 points9 points ago

I think it's impossible to have a free inexperienced prostitute. No matter how ugly.

[–]Exaskryz 0 points1 point ago

Mind pulling out of that article exactly what you're thinking? If it's just the fact that pretty much anything could exist, you could post that in any fictitious image...

[–]BlakeFoose 43 points44 points ago

So wait, would Death Valley be water above sea level?! Mind=blown.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 33 points34 points ago

Whoa. Didn't think of that! I did know I should have made the Ocean trenches as mountains, but Death Valley...! And I think there's a place near the Nile that should be above sea level too..

[–]this_sort_of_thing 23 points24 points ago

World 1.2, so many ideas. Also, Antarctica would be a big lake, but you've shown it as land.

[–]thegriefer 14 points15 points ago

Wouldn't it be one big ice covered lake though?

[–]this_sort_of_thing 5 points6 points ago

Ahhh..touche. But then the lakes of Greenland/Northern Russian Ocean should also be frozen, but they's aint.

[–]Arkile9 4 points5 points ago

A lot of Holland is below sea level iirc

Edit: I think there's a NASA map somewhere which shows height above/below sea level

[–]rockymountainoysters 2 points3 points ago

I want to see Death Valley as a 282 ft-tall blister of water.

[–]Ragerino 36 points37 points ago

I would definitely want to live on one of those sweet Great Lakes islands. Great Islands?

[–]yammys 6 points7 points ago

Michigan Islands :D

[–]itsalwaysthebutler 119 points120 points ago

There's so much room for activities!

[–]roterghost 25 points26 points ago

We'll find a way to ruin it. We always do.

[–]this_sort_of_thing 15 points16 points ago

It's why we can't have nice things

[–]Lilyo 21 points22 points ago

Now this is a map Buster would love.

[–]mstruelo 15 points16 points ago

This is so cool. I have yet to be unimpressed by anything you do. I saved the picture for a desktop image and I titled it "Invearth"

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 13 points14 points ago

Thanks so much! And dude that's an awesome name. Invearth. It's offical.

[–]i_have_a_name 30 points31 points ago

Well obviously the blue parts are land.

[–]JobsHatesBarryAllen 6 points7 points ago

Is your name Buster?

[–]Ferrarisimo 23 points24 points ago

You forgot to do Antarctica. Looks great otherwise.

[–]DutchPirate 22 points23 points ago

I will pay you for a high res source file. I need this on my wall.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 77 points78 points ago

I'm sorry but they're full size. :\ One day hopefully I'll make a HUUUGE file (like 10k pixel at least) which will be even more realistic (ocean trenches will be mountains, mountains will be trenches. So Mariana trench will be Mt Mariana and Mt Everest will be Everest Trench. ;o And since I can't use NASA's or Google Earth's photos for capital gain (I think?) I'll upload it for free. :P

[–]p0diabl0 23 points24 points ago

When you do it you should use the google maps API so as to explore it better.

[–]HastyUsernameChoice 1 point2 points ago

dude, let me learn you some information from experience. A few months ago I launched this website: http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com complete with a free creative commons wall poster.

Thing is that despite me trying to be all altruistic, I would have made it much cheaper for people to get a poster for their wall if I'd got them offset printed (the per unit cost of an offset printed poster is under a buck, the cost for a person to get it printed digitally or from zazzle is over $60).

I'm currently sorta getting my shit together to do an offset run and maybe even make a small profit to put back into educational projects, but heed my advice: make a hires version of this, do an offset print run, then get yourself set up with ecommerce etc.

Do make sure you're not violating any copyrights though hey.

Edit: Herp derp, sry, actually read your comment. Perhaps you could contact google/nasa once you've done the hires and offer it to them to sell and raise money for space exploration stuff and things?

[–]greiger 10 points11 points ago

I think I would want to live in the Strait of Gibraltar.

[–]fark4life 11 points12 points ago

Reminds me of this wallpaper I downloaded.

[–]AbsentShadow 30 points31 points ago

For some reason this makes me uncomfortable.

[–]Ragnalypse 11 points12 points ago

Same... it's just so... wrong.

[–]MrBahhum 1 point2 points ago

Well this world would have a different climate from the low ocean currents. The creator of this map only which land and water, but he never took into account of surface elevation. If a surface elevation reversal was done, it would be neat to see where any new water formations would exist.

[–]skybike 1 point2 points ago

Jimmies are undoubtedly rustled.

[–]SAMElawrence 6 points7 points ago

brb, just gonna make this in AOE II.

[–]Gator17 15 points16 points ago

Great job, Buster!

[–]Crysalim 4 points5 points ago

This image is amazing! I really love it. It's making all my sciency neurons tingle too...

My first thoughts were that this would be how the planet looked before man. My second thought was that most of the world would become very arid and dry due to the flipped ratio of land surface area to water.

Then I started thinking, what about those gigantic ice caps? Now, if those were stable, it would dictate weather across the globe, making the extreme north and south much harsher climates. However, I don't think they would remain stable; in this case I believe they would melt to balance out the abundance of land.

After enough of the caps melted to stabilize the humidity (and thus weather cycles) of the planet, all kinds of life would start to form. Probably much different life than we have on our planet right now.

I'd love for someone with vast knowledge in meteorology and biology to take on this scenario, because I really wonder how it would turn out!

[–]Peanutbutterlobster 7 points8 points ago

Animals would be everywhere. All land masses are connected. I'm sure that would fuck some ecosystems up and the world would be totally different.

[–]NickDay 4 points5 points ago

Buster? The guy who thought that the blue on the map was land?

[–]WelcomeToSkyValley 6 points7 points ago

The island that was once Lake Taupo, New Zealand. It's in the central north island, and has a few small islands in it, which would be lakes. I would have the most bad ass castle there. It would rule and everyone would be invited. Except Dolan, he's a cunt.

[–]Digit4lhero 3 points4 points ago

There are no rivers and lakes, which kinda sucks (if this was real).

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 8 points9 points ago

It was really hard to keep it realistic geographically, you'll have to imagine the 'real' big islands as lakes (Iceland, Madagaskar, Indonesia, NZ etc).

I did squeeze in rivers though, you'll find the deltas if you look at southern Peru, Norway, western coast of Africa, Angola, and Sumatra.

[–]Digit4lhero 2 points3 points ago

Didn't want to be rude or anything, just my opinion if I'd live in a world like this.

It's a really cool pic and I love it!

[–]bonZzZo 3 points4 points ago

We need to divide the new land into countries. Then I will pick where to live.

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 13 points14 points ago

And then play Risk! :D

[–]boblahblah101 2 points3 points ago

Or Civ!

[–]h8bit 1 point2 points ago

now I live in a lake

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 12 points13 points ago

I'm sure we all do :P

[–]Armonster 3 points4 points ago

redefining ocean

[–]Jaared 5 points6 points ago

I would want to live where the great lakes are. That would be swell.

[–]petespetes 2 points3 points ago

greenland being surrounded by ice but not frozen makes no sense.

[–]ginjah_ninjah 4 points5 points ago

I wanna live next to the Hawaiian Oasis in the Pacific Dessert

[–]System_Mangler 8 points9 points ago

You've concentrated the lights (and therefore major cities) around the water. Since all land masses are connected and there's 70% land to 30% water, I think ocean travel would have been historically less important and so this is not so likely.

Still cool though.

[–]sharkeyzoic 5 points6 points ago

The Panama Bridge would be an impressive bit of engineering!

[–]ObeseMoreece 2 points3 points ago

I would say it's important still. Look at Europe trading with India. They could only go safely/economically by sea since it was too hard to cross deserts, mountains and jungle. I can imagine Panama becoming a North American to south American trade route and Gibraltar becoming a canal like Panama so the African ocean is directly connected to the European ocean.

[–]beatleschick111 3 points4 points ago

This is freaking amazing! To me, it looks so much cooler than the actual world. Just imagine Earth looking like that RIGHT now! Fucking brilliant....

[–]troopah 10 points11 points ago

Then we'd have a post about the opposite. Not so amazing.

[–]nikc4 2 points3 points ago

You would be underwater.

[–]beatleschick111 2 points3 points ago

Now that would probably suck.

[–]BardtheBowman 2 points3 points ago

The peninsula where the Red Sea is would be neato. I imagine they'd build a huge bridge or tunnel between that and the land where the Mediterranean is. Even better if the tunnel were clear, so you could drive or take a train and have the sea all around you. Usually all of our tunnels are below the bottom of the sea, but fuck that. I wanna see fishes and shit, a la Deeprun Tram.

Don't tell me it isn't feasible because of pressure or whatever. We just put a goddamn laboratory on wheels on Mars!

EDIT: I guess with the current Suez Canal, there would be a small landbridge between them. If Earth was always inverted, we wouldn't have that. A tunnel or artificial bridge would be cooler.

[–]Gilkanese 2 points3 points ago

Someone should make this into a Civ 5 map.

[–]LakeStClair 2 points3 points ago

Water in Africa? No longer a problem.

[–]Inessia 3 points4 points ago

Between Scandinavia and GB :)

[–]unpopular_speech 1 point2 points ago

[–]assassin5 2 points3 points ago

Damn imagine if all countries was connected like this. I wonder if racism would even be a thing.

[–]Vectoor 2 points3 points ago

You know, throughout history almost all of mankind lived on the africa-asia-europe connected landmass, and like 85% still do. Back in the day oceans were often more connecting than land. Example: North africa has always been closely connected to europe, but separated from the rest of africa by the sahara.

[–]TheTVDB 3 points4 points ago

I'd like to see an adjusted version that takes climate into account. Obviously northern Greenland, northern Canada, and southern South America would be frozen.

Interesting to think of the climate and policial makeup of these new areas. The Great Lakes Islands would most likely be similar in climate to Great Britain. Many of the islands in Wisconsin/Minnesota/Canada are relatively small, so those would likely be one country like Indonesia.

There would be a man-made canal passing through the Panama Canal Isthmus and we'd likely see the largest bridges on Earth in the Central America region. Assuming similar cradle of civilization area, the Mediterranean Islands would likely have the highest population density on Earth, and have the greatest history of war.

[–]apppul 2 points3 points ago

This is disturbing. And awesome. I have to chose.

[–]MagCynic 1 point2 points ago

Damn. That would have changed how everything happened.

[–]handsNfeetRmangos 2 points3 points ago

Could you split it down the middle and merge the Arctic and Antarctic into one large land mass?

[–]rattlemebones 2 points3 points ago

This is completely blowing my mind.

[–]withoutcompromise 2 points3 points ago

It's strange how I'm picturing all the different [new] locations (like an "Indian Kingdom") and thinking "Holy crap I'd love to go there", as if my mind forgets about all the fucked up shit in that region currently.

[–]Dayman07 2 points3 points ago

I will be using this for an upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Campaign I have been working on. Thank you.

[–]SailingSeasofRum 2 points3 points ago

I would want to live in the Mediterranean Sea Island. The country there could feasibly control the ocean trade in both the Asian and African Oceans and would likely be extremely affluent, since cargo is much easier to move on water than land. Though the Baltic Sea Island might give some good competition. I would love to try and cut a canal to the Australian sea too.

The mountain range between the North American/South American Oceans and the European/African Oceans present a real dilemma for sea trade. A country sitting on the plain between those ranges would be very well off, as long as the rivers coming off the mountain ranges and weather didn't make it too swampy.

edit

[–]jetipants 2 points3 points ago

You left out Antarctica, bro.

[–]theorymeltfool 1 point2 points ago

THE GREAT LAKES ISLANDS!!!

[–]FluxDenisty 2 points3 points ago

This is extremely impressive and thought provoking. The night map really made a huge difference in how I thought about it. Thank you for this.

[–]Clouds_and_CrankArms 0 points1 point ago

I look at this and cant help but see an Age of Empires map

[–]MisterCalampski 2 points3 points ago

Looking at this with my girlfriend and i said "well, i guess I'd live wherever the white people are". wtf

[–]el_pollo_gigantes 2 points3 points ago

I just went onto your Deviant art page, are you the who made this? I have had this as my background for such a long time and I love it! I actually feel more excited than I should right now for potentially bumping into the original artist of my desktop wallpaper on the internet...

[–]mygrapefruit[S] 2 points3 points ago

Yeah I'm the original author! I think you can even discern my watermark in bottom right corner. :) Looks like someone felt a bit of green was needed, and added that.

[–]SenorSpicyBeans 1 point2 points ago

You know what would be weird? The tiny strips of land, thousands of miles long, that rose above the oceans that would have been the rivers of the regular world.

[–]godofwar7018 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone see a dragon on the right (night version)?

[–]spoonbandit 4 points5 points ago

SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!!

[–]fireismyflag[!] 6 points7 points ago

I've gotta say I love your work.
