Should say " what if it is all a hoax and we gave a group of unelected officials the power to extort us through a carbon tax for nothing"

[–]tidux 1 point2 points ago

unelected officials

I am confused by this. Wouldn't it be Congress's job to implement a carbon tax?

[–]atotalstranger 0 points1 point ago

Depends. Ever heard of a Czar? Its an appointed official with a ridiculous amount of influence.

[–]jdizzle367 1 point2 points ago

it should be but due to certain laws that were quietly pushed through 2 years ago the epa now has the power to do that shit its killed my local economy

[–]tidux 0 points1 point ago

Is that a carbon tax or a carbon cap? Is your local economy based on coal or other emissions-heavy industries? I'm curious, because this sounds odd to me.

[–]jdizzle367 -1 points0 points ago

coal but the problem is that while coal produces over 78% of all electricity produced in the world and 57% of eletricity produced in america and is significantly more efficient than any other source of electricity (excluding nuclear) it is attacked according to new epa regulations that they are trying to pass the cleanest coal power plant in the world could not pass the emissions tests.

[–]tidux 0 points1 point ago

That's because coal plants typically eat mountains, shit toxic waste, poison the water, and leak more radioactive junk into the atmosphere than a normally-functioning nuclear power plant. It's also a strategy to incentivize alternate forms of energy by making coal more difficult. As someone who lives "downwind" of coal country and the huge factory farms of the midwest, at least 80% of the pollution in my air comes from out of state.

[–]jdizzle367 -1 points0 points ago

well im sorry you feel that way and the pollution does not come from coal country it comes from the power plants that burn the coal most of which are not even near "coal" country 75% (roughly) of coal mines are underground mines and do not damage the mountains very little waste is produced from mining actually despite what is often published against mines and the water pollution standards put forth by most coal companies are stricter than what the government require the strip mines turn a mountain into usable space which is in high demand providing an important service and the reason the local schools in the entire appalachian plateau still provide an even slightly decent education is because they are hugely subsudised by the "evil" coal companies i cant tell you jack shit about the factory farms so ill stick to what i know but if you take coal away 42% of people mostly in urban areas will be without power the price of electricity will increase roughly 35% and we would lose a lot of money we get from coal exports to other nations both of which would likely do almost irreperable damage to our already weakened economy (all information came from independent studies not paid for by coal companies or anti coal proponents) please get your facts strait before making rude comments in my direction i simply pointed out a series of facts and logical conjectures

It was stupid the first time it was posted.

The question is much more one of whether it might be much better to invest all the money we are spending on something that actually improves our world. How about spending billions of dollars on fighting poverty? Wouldn't that be a start? Instead we spend all that money on a danger that "might" be caused by us and "might" affect our world in hundreds of years.

[–]jacklivingstone -1 points0 points ago

"might" looks like someone knows better than virtually every climatologist alive

Get back to r/politics you lefty wanker

[–]MartyrTOM -1 points0 points ago

What if it's all a repost and we've all just upvoted for nothing

Everyone who gets all riled up over the whole hole in the ozone layer is crazy. Cow farts give off more carbon emissions each year than humans.
