The dental school I went to had an entire showcase room of "Skulls of Different Ages" and the skulls that showed eruption patterns of teeth in human, apes and dogs amazed me the most!

Dentist here:

Deciduous teeth have roots because children need them to eat, learn to speak, provide vertical support for their jaws, and (from an evolutionary standpoint) for defense. Without roots, none of this would be possible as the teeth would not be stable.

When a baby tooth falls out, however, it has no roots.

The reason for this is that when the adult teeth start to grown in from below the baby teeth, they induce a chemical reaction that starts to eat up the root of the baby tooth, eventually making it loose enough (going back to my point of no roots = not enough stability to function) that it falls out.

Dentist here.

Sorry, you are incorrect. Those are, in fact, deciduous (baby) teeth. That child is roughly 5 or 6 years old and their adult teeth have yet to start coming in.

Baby teeth have roots for the entire length of time that they are in function (being used in the mouth for chewing, speech, etc). When the adult teeth begin to develop below them and start erupting, they start a chemical process that induces, for lack of a better word, "melting" of the baby tooth's roots - which is why when they fall out they look like they don't have roots :)
