[–]Unilateralist 258 points259 points ago

The best part was when he was trying to convince the official to let him keep the baton.

[–]lexbuck 118 points119 points ago

I mean, if he really wanted the baton, is anyone there really going to catch him?

[–]playinodds 4 points5 points ago

in cars?

[–]NufCed57 154 points155 points ago

I think he ended up with it.

[–]durtle 110 points111 points ago

"But officials must have then had second thoughts because Bolt later confirmed that they allowed him to keep the baton." From that article.

[–]Metro666 49 points50 points ago

To be fair, that's one usainly valuable plastic aluminum tube we're talking about. At auction, that thing would fetch a pretty penny.

[–]boossaa 54 points55 points ago

People would bolt through the door just to get it.

[–]RupertDurden 111 points112 points ago

I dig what Usain.

[–]Karlo7 44 points45 points ago

Jamaican me crazy with these puns.

[–]Grabowerful 33 points34 points ago

You're trying to start a fire with a dildo.

[–]SwiftJudgement 2 points3 points ago

Most Track and Field batons are made out of aluminum. Just an FYI

[–]Jibblesx -1 points0 points ago

"But officials must have then had second thoughts because Bolt later confirmed that they allowed him to keep the baton."

[–]deve0530 1 point2 points ago

CTV reported they did give it back to him later on.

[–]JohntheHuman 1 point2 points ago

On the broadcast we saw in South Africa, two men and that lady, all up in a huffy, first took it away from him, and he argued with them, saying he wanted to keep it and put it up in his house or something.
They then refused and took it away.
Then just as he was leaving the track for the changing rooms another man came up to him and handed it to him.

[–]wasntagoodidea 21 points22 points ago

Approximate quote from live feed: "I want to keep it and put it on my wall!"

[–]Intuition17 558 points559 points ago

It looks like he's just jogging but he's probably still moving faster than most of us can sprint.

[–]gz33 365 points366 points ago

He could probably moonwalk faster than most of us can sprint.

[–]Lewkylewk 114 points115 points ago

What manner of dark magic is this?

[–]Yankee_Gunner 47 points48 points ago

No one has ever explained to me what the hell is going on here.

I demand an explanation!

[–]biga29 66 points67 points ago

Black Magic.

[–]bobethy 129 points130 points ago

We prefer to call it African American Magic

[–]JarrettP 20 points21 points ago

But he's Jamaican

[–]bobethy 8 points9 points ago

But this way's funnier.

[–]Strug-ga-ling 96 points97 points ago

[–]DCJodon 18 points19 points ago

Greatest thing I've seen all day.

[–]proddy 14 points15 points ago

Something to do with wet surface, friction and wizardry. It's best not to ask.

[–]DeadAlready 15 points16 points ago

Ok, since apparently I'm the only person with any experience in the area, I will explain.

When he brings a foot forward he is, essentially, kicking the ground hard as fuck. Not a vertical downforce, clearly, but during the forward motion is the only time he has traction. He then slides on that same foot, in reverse, from the force.

[Edit; To be clear, he really only has traction for about 4 inches of the forward motion, directly under him. Sliding while still moving the foot forward (slower than the slide) helps "blur" when the traction takes place.]

[–]_Chantastic_ 12 points13 points ago

Woah, I actually know what's going on here! It's the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, CA. I've been there a few times, it's very recognizable by the building in the middle of the street in the background. There are a ton of street performers there, that guy is a dancer there and I've seen him a few times. I was volunteered in one of his shows, he's a nice enough guy.

[–]Threedawg 18 points19 points ago

You know, you didn't explain it.

[–]Cutiepants 8 points9 points ago

You was volunteered? That doesn't sound very volunteer-like

[–]FockerFGAA 26 points27 points ago

Voluntold

[–]PenumbraIV 0 points1 point ago

Maybe wheelies? (small wheels at back of shoes)

[–]nothis 2 points3 points ago

Friction.

[–]thegrahamcracker 3 points4 points ago

It's the "Third Street Promenade" in Downtown Santa Monica, California if anyone is interested.

[–]butterphlaighs 91 points92 points ago

Does anyone else notice he glides when he runs? Dat elegance.

[–]mrkarlis 32 points33 points ago

His feet doesn't even touch the ground, if you look closely enough.

[–]SilentLettersSuck 33 points34 points ago

don't*

[–]im2reel 4 points5 points ago

[–]noscakes 73 points74 points ago

doughnut*

[–]whatevers_clever 21 points22 points ago

doesn't*

[–]Naggers123 26 points27 points ago

Do not continue this.

[–]bellyjeans55 38 points39 points ago

Doughnut, continue this.

[–]Demented_Hedgehog 15 points16 points ago

Discontinue the doughnuts immediately.

[–]frankthepieking 1 point2 points ago

It's because he learnt to run barefoot, on hot Jamaican sand. Same reason Brazilian footballers have quick feet.

[–]SubtleMockery 16 points17 points ago

His stride is almost as long as the steward is tall.

[–]imbored53 28 points29 points ago

Usain Bolt runs the 100m in 41 steps. That's 2.439m per stride, just over 8 feet. I'd say his stride is longer than anyone on earth is tall.

[–]Metro666 19 points20 points ago

Since the first few steps are smaller, his stride at full speed would be even longer than the average.

[–]CarolusMagnus 9 points10 points ago

Sultan Kösen is 2.51, Brahim Takioullah is 2.46 - but close enough...

[–]Asassinsneed 0 points1 point ago

It's funny the amount of upvotes this got and what assumption one could make about redditors from it.

[–]geraldfjord 44 points45 points ago

So who's replacing the baton with an upvote?

[–]Saletina 27 points28 points ago

Okay, I'll do it. http://i.imgur.com/DtV1a.gif

[–]KoreanTerran 687 points688 points ago

Fuckin' love this guy.

[–]grachasaurus 115 points116 points ago

All of reddit does this week.

[–]Calgetorix 66 points67 points ago

He's the same for sports as Tyson* is for science here on reddit it seems.

*Neil deGrasse Tyson

[–]RossLH 296 points297 points ago

....black?

[–]Calgetorix 57 points58 points ago

I guess that's not completely untrue either.

[–]YesYouCannot 46 points47 points ago

Probably because they're both black.

[–]EntingFantastic 35 points36 points ago

Black people: they're awesome!

[–]venturboy 17 points18 points ago

This guy gets it.

[–]Is_this_thing_on 14 points15 points ago

DAE black folks?!

[–]Mutiny32 8 points9 points ago

My neighbor is a black guy. A retired NARC at that too. Cool as shit.

Edit: Really? I get down-voted for saying my neighbor, who is a retired FBI Narcotics Agent, which in of itself is a totally badass profession, is cool is shit as well? Racists.

[–]Snoop_Dragon 21 points22 points ago

Yes. 100% true.

[–]vertigo1083 39 points40 points ago

For a solid minute, thought you were somehow referencing Mike Tyson.

"I'm going to eat his children"

was a stark contrast to:

"Heres a baton, LOLNOPE"

[–]eyecite 3 points4 points ago

Chad Johnson on r/NFL

[–]Cabbage_Vendor 50 points51 points ago

Yet a week ago I got flack for saying Bolt was just as dominant of an athlete as Phelps, Phelps simply had more events to partake in.

[–]grachasaurus 70 points71 points ago

But you see, that was a week ago, before the circle jerk train switched tracks.

[–]32koala 6 points7 points ago

Until the sex scandal that will make us hate him... Or hopefully the marijuana scandal that will make us love him even more!

[–]Gold_blooded 54 points55 points ago

A Jamaican having lots of sex and smoking lots of weed?

Never

[–]IISUPERMONKEYII 5 points6 points ago

I think part of that is Micheal Phelps

[–]manufactured_narwhal 17 points18 points ago

That's the best thumbs up picture you could find?

[–]flea-ish 6 points7 points ago

definitely the most obscure, plus i dont mind the sens.

[–]OneCello 17 points18 points ago

Once again, usain bolt has been confirmed as the chilliest.

[–]Amifletotten 27 points28 points ago

He's the Summer Olympics equivalent of "Cool Runnings"

[–]Mutiny32 2 points3 points ago

Also, less Disney.

[–]StewartKruger 1 point2 points ago

So, Runnings? I wouldn't have guessed!

[–]ravenpride 319 points320 points ago

He definitely knows when to be serious and when to have some fun. He stopped his interview out of respect for the American national anthem, but he's enough of a goofball to mess with the steward. Gotta love him.

[–]Anticlimax1471 76 points77 points ago

As far as I've seen, he refuses to interview during any national anthem. Very respectful of other athletes' achievements.

[–]captainhamster 30 points31 points ago

I think a lot of people misunderstood that gesture - he stopped out of respect for the athlete.

[–]ravenpride 10 points11 points ago

Regardless, it was a class act.

[–]Hedonopoly 215 points216 points ago

video of him stopping the interview

Although I think he stopped it out of respect for the person winning the gold. I like to think that was the part that matters to him, that they get their moment for accomplishing something so amazing.

[–]DAVENP0RT 177 points178 points ago

Yeah, I doubt the Olympians give a fuck about the other nations, but I bet they respect the shit out of each other for the amount of dedication it takes to get where they are.

[–]theimpolitegentleman 54 points55 points ago

I think this is 100% the case.

To back it up: look at the picture of the Iranian and the American Olympiads. Despite the animosity between the two nations, they show they have respect for each other.

[–]Glasse 21 points22 points ago

Did you see the north korean shaking the hand of the south korean at the end of their ping pong match?

[–]ApolloAbove 39 points40 points ago

Traitor to Best Korea.

[–]gp0 15 points16 points ago

10/10 ambiguity

[–]scharpfuzz 2 points3 points ago

He probably got banned from r/Pyongyang

[–]Glasse 1 point2 points ago

You probably did as well just now.

[–]frvwfr2 87 points88 points ago

What reason do I have to hate/dislike people from Iran? There is no animosity. I don't understand why you think that.

[–]theimpolitegentleman 58 points59 points ago

You didn't catch my point..

I have no reason to hate Iran, either. My nation/governments' policies and opinions don't influence mine.

My point was that despite any nationalistic/political/religious barriers, they can both respect each other on a level that we probably don't know (unless you've dedicated your life to being an athlete..)

[–]daielquon 14 points15 points ago

You're being very polite right now, sir.

[–]theimpolitegentleman 21 points22 points ago

Tha fuck you going on about ;)?

[–]Sorkijan 4 points5 points ago

You had to find the shittiest possible video of it, didn't you?

[–]Frankeh 9 points10 points ago

American

Only because they won the medal. He was respecting and athlete, not the USA especially. I've seen him do the same with a Grenada national anthem.

[–]skakruk 7 points8 points ago

He stopped out of respect for the other athlete, not because it was the anthem of the US. For fuck's sake it's so evident yet I continue seeing people get it wrong.

[–]Alpha-Leader 10 points11 points ago

Well when your the best at something, loaded with money, and happy, what else is there to do but mess with the stewards.

[–]Elanoir 9 points10 points ago

AMERICAN

[–]Strug-ga-ling 7 points8 points ago

I've been thinking about this for a while now...and it's official: Usian Bolt is my Spirit Animal (sorry Doctor Who scarf, it's been good, but things change).

[–][deleted] ago

[–]Nefara 73 points74 points ago

The longer you watch it, the easier it is to imagine that he's doing full laps around the track and this happens each and every time he finishes a pass.

[–]Archers_bane 173 points174 points ago

If he would have just winked when he looked back, she would've Old Faithful'd

That makes me hard

[–]TysonStoleMyPanties 5 points6 points ago

Thank you.

[–]ChrisSal 94 points95 points ago

It makes me sad that in my lifetime I will never have the opportunity to be a steward that Usain Bolt messes with

[–]Vidiem 76 points77 points ago

You can still try Rio. GO FOR IT I BELIEVE IN YOU.

[–]huevas 101 points102 points ago

Let's make this a reddit project, we have 4 years to work on this and get ChrisSal to Rio as a steward on the athletism events. Let's make his dream reddit!

edit: Subreddit started /r/ChrisSalRioSteward

Ok, I found some information on how recruitment was setup for London here, if we can learn how it was done in London we should be able to make the jump to Rio. http://www.london2012.com/about-us/jobs/working-for-locog/locog-faq/

Also found the CV submission process here: https://locogrecruitment.london2012.com/jobs/main

There also appears to be some 3rd party agencies that recruited. I'm sure we can find someone in the organizing comittee that can allow ChrisSal skip some of the initial recruitment filters. I might know a guy in the Brazilian government.

Let's make this happen. For Chris.

[–]jarlry 61 points62 points ago

Nice try ChrisSal

[–]Kintobor 23 points24 points ago

Just imagining ChrisSal fervently learning Portuguese now...

[–]ChrisSal 12 points13 points ago

Olà! I hope that's right. I'd say that's a solid start

[–]sup_ 18 points19 points ago

huehuehue

[–]dnicholsonb 2 points3 points ago

Try this "gib me gold plis or i rebort u"

[–]ChrisSal 12 points13 points ago

Wow. The internet has no way of expressing how grateful I am that you did that research. One upvote doesn't do justice!

[–]LockMeIn 12 points13 points ago

Earn this, ChrisSal. Earn this.

[–]joosha 2 points3 points ago

You deserve this dream to be a reality my friend.

[–]burnso 6 points7 points ago

I'm in!

[–]RommelTJ 5 points6 points ago

You have my axe.

[–]JakJakAttacks 138 points139 points ago

This guy is a perfect example of how the Olympics should be.

[–]paki123 69 points70 points ago

I can only imagine Reddit's response if/when Bolt does something terrible...

http://i.imgur.com/oxbXV.gif

[–]basilect 30 points31 points ago

In before he says something incredibly homophobic on international TV

[–]haf12 20 points21 points ago

Or that he thanks god.

[–]Mutiny32 14 points15 points ago

He sorta does that when he points up. Either that or he's praying to Zeus.

[–]Admiral_Cuntfart 11 points12 points ago

Zeus, lightning, Bolt, i see what you did there.

[–]dwarner27315 7 points8 points ago

I would totally be okay with him praying to Zeus...

[–]triplea20x 9 points10 points ago

I HATE YOUUUUUUUUU

[–]Arx0s 12 points13 points ago

Watch Bolt's documentary . It's really awesome to see how relaxed and down to earth he is, even with all this fame and money.

[–]REDDIT_SUCKS_DICKS 1 point2 points ago

Not available in Australia :(

[–]AliasUndercover 36 points37 points ago

He's having an awful lot of fun this Olympics. Good for him.

[–]Ayatrollah_Khomatmei 26 points27 points ago

The whole world is fixated on him once every four years for two weeks. May as well enjoy it while it lasts.

[–]somethingsomeone_jr 4 points5 points ago

[–]RazzleDazzle_ 18 points19 points ago

Bolt, you dastardly guy

[–]lemonpjb 6 points7 points ago

Thanks for not going with 'magnificent bastard'. You were close there, but you pulled through. The world is now a better place.

[–]grachasaurus 76 points77 points ago

Reddit is getting a little fixated on this guy. The Neil Degrasse Tyson of sports.

[–]LeonardNemoysHead 61 points62 points ago

Guy's earned it. He's the biggest athlete in the world right now, it's not just reddit.

[–]walkingtheriver 14 points15 points ago

Definitely not. When the national TV channel here were broadcasting the high jump final and 800m final for women tonight, they had a little ad in the upper right corner which didn't just say "4x100m final tonight at 22:00!" it said "4x100m final with Usain Bolt tonight at 22:00!"

Edit: The definitely not was for the last bit LeonardNemoysHead said about it not just being reddit...

[–]polobbq 19 points20 points ago

Charisma

[–]zedzdead33 60 points61 points ago

All da bitches love him

[–]physys 48 points49 points ago

And they're certainly not messing with his dougie.

[–]Lizardizzle 11 points12 points ago

SO MANY BITCHES.

[–]ropers 19 points20 points ago

Semi-unrelated question:

Is Usain a variant of Hussein? Are the two etymologically related?

[–]CarolusMagnus 29 points30 points ago

It's a different transcription of the exact same word, Arabic حسین‎ which means something close to good/handsome/beautiful - a very popular first name.

[–]canyonmonkey 2 points3 points ago

Thanks so much for the explanation. Very interesting!

[–]DickyGrayson 4 points5 points ago

Classic Bolt

[–]STIPULATE 6 points7 points ago

I would love to see Bolt do an AMA.

[–]donnellyrfc 21 points22 points ago

i woulda chased him

[–]tenhotuisku 46 points47 points ago

Good luck with that

[–]Strug-ga-ling 7 points8 points ago

That man is incredible. Seriously, he gets the hype around his fame/accomplishments, and instead of being a complete douche about it (all too common), he embraces it, subverts it, uses it any way he wants to--mainly, for the lolz. Genius.

[–]EnzoBlankz 3 points4 points ago

He jogs faster than what I can run.

[–]MStoli 4 points5 points ago

Is it me or can you get a sense for just how fast he is simply by how quickly he covers ground in a jog in this gif? Holy shit.

[–]Siggy778 1 point2 points ago

He's so cocky and yet it doesn't bother me because he does so many things that make him likable.

[–]stooney 3 points4 points ago

i feel like bolt is becoming my favorite person now

[–]Emmanuell89 2 points3 points ago

they actually took him from him , the entire stadium booed

[–]Probably_immortal 2 points3 points ago

JOKES, all day.

[–]White_Luigi 2 points3 points ago

That dude loves a good fakeout.

[–]SuddenlySpuds 15 points16 points ago

All these Bolt gifs are driving me Usain.

[–]gulpeg 4 points5 points ago

"Jamaican me crazy"

[–]tynamite 1 point2 points ago

Damn, Bolt is one cool ass dude.

[–]AnimatedSnake 4 points5 points ago

Da fuck they gonna do?

They can't catch him anyway :P

[–]confuseum 0 points1 point ago

It's not like you're going to be able to catch him.

[–]I_PROTECT_KARMA 4 points5 points ago

Someone make a r/usainbolt

[–]Livinit 1 point2 points ago

This guy is amazing!

[–]Saac 0 points1 point ago

'ere ya go mon. PSYCHE

[–]crime_fighter 0 points1 point ago

I missed the race..can anyone post a gif or the highlights :(

[–]frankthepieking 4 points5 points ago

A 35 second race? That's a singular highlight.

Might not work in the States: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18913023

[–]lucas_beardas 0 points1 point ago

She could have caught him.

[–]URNOTBollock 0 points1 point ago

YOU...

[–]prairiedawg91 0 points1 point ago

Well fuck I guess they did get the world record... No point in watching it tonight then.

[–]Beansmcpies 0 points1 point ago

i wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be god.

[–]Crazybonbon 0 points1 point ago

I love it how he looks back and laughs

[–]ronald_ploter 0 points1 point ago

well that was a bolt of excitement!!

[–]seltzer99 0 points1 point ago

[–]TRexJoser 0 points1 point ago

A class act, this one!

[–]joshTheGoods 0 points1 point ago

motherfuckin' spoiler alert!

[–]paul5345 0 points1 point ago

so can any1 please shop in an upvote into bolt's hand instead of the baton? it would be a cool gif to have.

[–]bli123z 0 points1 point ago

Wins gold at the Olympics, steals baton

[–]tidder112 0 points1 point ago

Bolt is the man, he is messing with people to show his love for his sport.

Why not have fun??!? You earned it, my friend.

[–]Acecicle -1 points0 points ago

Can someone edit this to be an upvote?

[–]hispters 0 points1 point ago

"God dammit Bolt, what have we told you about fucking with the stewards!"

[–]boonimajneB 0 points1 point ago

Good thing the cameraman didn't run into her.

[–]enzobelmont 1 point2 points ago

his name: Usain Troll

[–]WhattheMel 1 point2 points ago

AMA Bolt made me look like a fool at the Olympics

[–]panzerdriver 0 points1 point ago

Nice to see we have a "good example" for the rest of the athletes.

[–]rhysypop 0 points1 point ago

NOPE

[–]Aromasin 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, he gave one of my friends who is working as a steward his hat. I thought that was freaking awesome.

[–]FragPoppa 0 points1 point ago

I love this guy! He is making these stewards feel like part of the events and he's showing them attention. Good deeds.

[–]trebud69 0 points1 point ago

This guy.
