Then what year was Lion King set in?

[–]queenlioness 59 points60 points ago

I was reading here on reddit one day when I came across a time line of disney movies in relation to human existence. Lion King was before Hercules in the timeline, and was actually the first "movie" since it was pretty much prehistoric with animals and no humans what so ever in the film. Hercules came soon after. I dont know where this post is, but I hope this helps you. And I also hope that someone out there has better luck finding it than I did. :)

EDIT: I also found while on here a map of disney movies in relation to the world. You may view that particular image HERE. Also, I'm pretty sure someone made a better version of this map and it is also somewhere here on reddit.

[–]WHATBACON 12 points13 points ago

Thanks. This did help.

[–]queenlioness 3 points4 points ago

you're welcome! Glad I could! :)

[–]ArgonautJason 8 points9 points ago

Haha, none of them take place in Canada!

[–]captionUnderstanding 6 points7 points ago

I thought Brother Bear was somewhere in BC.

[–]queenlioness 1 point2 points ago

not yet, but you never know. maybe if the viewers of disney films wrote to them and asked if they could make one based in that region then maybe, just maybe something will take place. you never know.consumer feedback.

[–]Torus2112 1 point2 points ago

Well, what traditional stories do we have that would make a good Disney movie? I'm trying to think, I can't come up with anything, but there must be something.

[–]not_a_troll_for_real 5 points6 points ago

Nothing in Canada :(

[–]LifeFailure 0 points1 point ago

Well... there's nothing in Canada.

[–]Dakidamachine 2 points3 points ago

[–]queenlioness -4 points-3 points ago

[–]MagicRocketAssault -5 points-4 points ago

[–]Francobello 1 point2 points ago

Which one takes place in italy?

[–]dramatik_geek 1 point2 points ago

Pinocchio.

[–]Francobello 2 points3 points ago

Oopps, thats right I forgot about that one, and I'm italian.

[–]queenlioness 1 point2 points ago

not exaactly sure, can't really find a higher res of the photo I posted, nor can google help me search for a list. I know it's on reddit somewhere. havent had much time or luck finding it.

[–]blackachu79 2 points3 points ago

Actually, way back when, Disney made a show about Timon and Pumba. In one episode they crossed over with Hercules. I also remember that the day I saw that episode, I puked into my macaroni and cheese and proceeded to eat it. I was six at the time.

[–]MissL 1 point2 points ago

why is Peter Pan upside down?

[–]Money-Treant 7 points8 points ago

I think you're looking too far into this...

[–]no_egrets 1 point2 points ago

All else aside, Scar was ripped to pieces by hyenas. In central fucking Africa, too.

[–]Money-Treant 0 points1 point ago

That traveling rug maker has some talent haha

[–]pyramidal_roof 2 points3 points ago

Well, I'm just guessing, but since Hercules was a hero in Greek mythology, the Lion King must have at the very latest taken place before the end of the ancient Greek era, meaning sometime earlier than 600 B.C.

[–]AscendantJustice 10 points11 points ago

Lion King - 1994 Hercules - 1997

[–]b3tzy 22 points23 points ago

Set, not released. He's referring to the fact that Hercules was an ancient Greek myth, meaning that the events in The Lion King must have occurred prior to the ancient Greek civilization.

[–]brittad_it 20 points21 points ago

Animals have existed longer than that so I guess it's possible

[–]RedTiger013 41 points42 points ago

The Lion King can exist however fucking far back it wants to.

[–]nazihatinchimp 5 points6 points ago

125 million years? Doubtful.

[–]RedTiger013 60 points61 points ago

However. Fucking. Long.

[–]XxWhIpLaSh18xX 4 points5 points ago

Have an upvote for sticking to your guns!

[–]c-3do 3 points4 points ago

Just like my penis...in my fantasies.

[–]vertigo1083 3 points4 points ago

Sabertooth Simba?

10/10

Would pay to see.

[–]Kolpernicus 3 points4 points ago

You must be fun at parties.

[–]ROFLBRYCE 0 points1 point ago

Well, with that attitude.

[–]FaithSkirata 2 points3 points ago

He meant when do the events transpire, not when were they released.

[–]AscendantJustice 8 points9 points ago

Oh wow. Completely missed this. Thanks. That'll teach me to browse reddit while drinking rum and trying to finish an online assignment at the same time.

[–]MattNastie 3 points4 points ago

You were still nice enough to give him the information you thought he wanted. You're okay in my book.

[–]Wilcows 9 points10 points ago

[–]Verja 5 points6 points ago

This is really interesting actually. Makes me want to see what else is like this.

[–]vannacuss 46 points47 points ago

Good find! The things I fail to notice as a child...

[–]Hand_of_Midas 0 points1 point ago

If only OP actually found it himself!

[–]CurlyNippleHairs 41 points42 points ago

I don't care if he found it himself, I'm glad he shared it with us.

[–]The_Last_Zombie -1 points0 points ago

[–]apullin 13 points14 points ago

Continuity easter eggs, in a Disney movie?!?! Whoa!

Next thing you'll be telling us that all the Pixar movies have such easter eggs all throughout them!

[–]q1o2 12 points13 points ago

Here's a list of the easter eggs in Ratatouille.

Before you downvote me, yes, I know he was being sarcastic.

[–]PowerThrills 0 points1 point ago

Best defense is admitting a weak offence.

[–]apullin -5 points-4 points ago

Wait, wait a minute ... you'd saying that Sid from Toy Story one is also Sid from Toy Story 3? Jesus, that's totally unexpected, them having the same name wasn't a clue to that at all!

[–]MissL 2 points3 points ago

nobody called him Sid in TS3 did they?

[–]apullin 1 point2 points ago

His name tag is visible.

[–]MissL 0 points1 point ago

i thought the only way people knew it was him was that he had the same haircut, tshirt, and taste in music

[–]themxm 11 points12 points ago

The North remembers.

[–]rbot1 25 points26 points ago

Pepperidge farm remembers

[–]tynosaur 1 point2 points ago

Read this in the VO voice. Dammit.

[–]Warcoww 0 points1 point ago

Mom remembers.

[–]Torus2112 1 point2 points ago

Je me souviens.

[–]Wolfman215 16 points17 points ago

Damn Scar had a cameo in Hercules!?

[–]PunTasTick 19 points20 points ago

Well, his skin did.

[–]bippityboppitymeep 11 points12 points ago

Holy fucking shit. Disney, you smart bunch of buggers.

[–]billet 1 point2 points ago

How are they smart?

[–]PowerThrills -2 points-1 points ago

No, really. How? They made a movie about a myth. Then incorporated a made-up character from a previous movie they made to fulfill a prop in a later movie. That's clever?

[–]mrgiglz 2 points3 points ago

I think continuity easter eggs are definitely clever... Mostly because it takes other people to point them out, or for me to watch something a bunch of times to see it.

[–]billet 2 points3 points ago

It takes no intelligence to do though. I'm not saying they shouldn't do it. I think they're fun and it's cool when I notice them, but Disney are not geniuses for doing it.

[–]mrgiglz 0 points1 point ago

I didn't say genius. I said clever ;)

[–]billet 1 point2 points ago

The original comment I responded to said smart. I'd allow clever though.

[–]Flying_Chicken 24 points25 points ago

Reddit's Promise: Repost.

[–]goofball_jones 51 points52 points ago

fuck off. seriously, it's people like you that are ruining Reddit. NOT the reposts.

If you see a fucking repost, MOVE ON. Fuck you and your fucking "repost". I'm more sick of whinny babies like you fucktards than I am of any actual repost.

[–]mrgiglz 32 points33 points ago

Only time it really bothers me is when it's a repost of something that's currently on the front page. I actually haven't seen this .gif before... so it may be a repost to Flying_Chicken, but I don't give a Flying_Fuck.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Flying_Chicken 3 points4 points ago

I didn't, people were mean to me

[–]TheSimpleArtist 1 point2 points ago

I don't think he was being terribly "whinny". Using the status of the OP to make a (admittedly tongue-in-cheek) joke was classier than flat-out calling the post for what it was.

[–]MagicRocketAssault 0 points1 point ago

How the fuck does this ruin Reddit?

[–][deleted] ago

[–]Schroedingers_gif -1 points0 points ago

There isn't and has never been a less classy place than Reddit.

[–]thecoffee 6 points7 points ago

I for one, enjoy spending time with old friends.

[–]mild_snakz 3 points4 points ago

Pretty morbid for a Disney movie. Still hilarious in it's own way.

[–]Amarae 7 points8 points ago

You're not serious right? This is irony.. right? Have you seen the Hunchback of Notre Dam?

[–]MrBeardedWisdom 4 points5 points ago

Hell fire.... Dark fire.....

[–]Amarae 4 points5 points ago

She will be mine or sheeeeee, willllllll, BURRRRRRNNNNNNN!!!!

[–]TeeBane 2 points3 points ago

Here's the Karma Decay. Interestingly enough, it was posted to /r/funny 6 months ago with the exact same title

[–]paigehymel 1 point2 points ago

Disney is a sneaky bastard.

[–]CrabbyMcFartLice -1 points0 points ago

You know this made at least one kid start crying in the theatre. Even though Scar was a total dickbag, kids like to get attached to things.

[–]weezermc78 -1 points0 points ago

Hercules and Lion King take place in the same universe.

[–]Tigeroovy 0 points1 point ago

That would mean that Lion King took place before all the Greek god mythology.

I wonder if Alladdin is the same universe too.

With the "Alladdin takes place in a post apocalyptic wasteland" theory that would have both ends of the time spectrum in place.

[–]thecoffee -2 points-1 points ago

Aladin could take place at the same time as Hercules, perhaps in Persia, or later in the Ottoman Empire.

Fun fact: The original came from Arabia and was set in China.

[–]AskMeAboutMyWiener -1 points0 points ago

It's Aladdin--not Alladdin or Aladin.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

Your grasp on history is pathetic. The Heracles myth is placed during the Greek Heroic Age, three generations before the Trojan War, which was around the 12th century BC. The world of Aladdin is clearly Islamic, meaning it has to take place after 7th century AD. There's at least two millennia between them, and possibly up to three.

[–]thecoffee -3 points-2 points ago

Well your're an ass.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

First you talk out of your ass, and then when corrected you immediately jump to name-calling? What a classy fellow you are.

[–]thecoffee -2 points-1 points ago

I'm not the one who started with the insults friend. I appreciate learning new things, even being corrected when wrong, but to openly insult someone without provocation is going to get no 'classy' discussion.

Now if you can't say anything nice or at least be civil, why don't you do the internet a favor and leave this thread alone?

[–]Tigeroovy -1 points0 points ago

I love cartoons so much.

[–]ExtraDip -1 points0 points ago

Mind Blown

[–]ContortedCashew 0 points1 point ago

Wtf is Hercules siting on?!?!

[–]Jagodka 1 point2 points ago

Woah, I thought Zazu said "throne rug" rather than "throw rug." Has my whole life been a lie?!?!?!

[–]sophiepritch5 0 points1 point ago

Mind = Blown.

[–]DanKiely 0 points1 point ago

He's a hat, not a rug

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

Haven't seen this in gif form but jesus christ has dead horse been beaten on this repost.

[–]theonegreatx 8 points9 points ago

Don't you mean "dead lion"?

[–]Fushigidane 10 points11 points ago

(☞°▽°)☞

[–]tynosaur 0 points1 point ago

Have this upvote for using such a perfectly distinct emoticon.

[–]koticgood 0 points1 point ago

This is the first time I've immediately recognized something as a blatant repost.

[–]thecoffee 0 points1 point ago

Congrats! Now you will never stop posting these comments. The Irony

[–]White_Luigi 1 point2 points ago

Shouldn't Scar's pelt be pretty torn up after his demise? I doubt the hyenas were gentle.

[–]thecoffee 0 points1 point ago

Why are we killing so many horses for useless trivia?

[–]DetectiveClownMD -2 points-1 points ago

Wow

[–]bukojuice -2 points-1 points ago

Disney delivers!

[–]treengii 0 points1 point ago

that is pretty fucked up, and rather hilariously clever

[–]ContortedCashew -2 points-1 points ago

Wtf is hercules siting on?!?!

[–]carl84 0 points1 point ago

I have never seen 'The Lion King' or 'Hercules(?)'

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Congratulations. Did you want a cookie?
