I'm sorry, I can't take this. This is literally the millionth time I've seen this gif.

[–]bricardo 58 points59 points ago

OH GET ORIGINAL MATERIAL, JUST GET ORIGINAL MATERIAL, WHY DON'T WE STRAP UP OUR ORIGINAL HELMET, SQUEEZE INTO OUR ORIGINAL CANNON AND FIRE OFF INTO ORIGINAL LAND WHERE ORIGINAL CONTENT GROWS ON ORIBIES

[–]Shurtugil 11 points12 points ago

I expected Boromir.

[–]Zerble 7 points8 points ago

Rather than reposting, get a job.

[–]superwaiter 1 point2 points ago

I get paid to post funny stuff on the internet. So, I have the very best of both worlds. Checkmate.

[–]Zerble 1 point2 points ago

Nice to see the education pay off so handsomely. Well done. I'm sure your parents are proud.

[–]Caramel_Chew_Chew 0 points1 point ago

First time I've seen it.

[–]HoneyBadgerDontCare8 29 points30 points ago

First time I saw this gif I fell off my dinosaur

[–]Cosmikdebris12 20 points21 points ago

Work in fast food. Problem solved.

[–]petey102 29 points30 points ago

You think it would be that easy. But it ain't. Got turned down by McD's...

[–]Doctor_Zee[S] 5 points6 points ago

Ouch. I got turned down by Dairy Queen.

[–]cuddlyogre 16 points17 points ago

I was turned down by Walmart once. Most unusual moment of my life.

[–]JViz 1 point2 points ago

What do you mean "turned down by Walmart"? I submitted an application and never received a call back, does that mean I was turned down too?

[–]cuddlyogre 12 points13 points ago

Their automated application actually told me I was not Walmart employee material. I didn't even get to the point where someone would call me back.

[–]vegeto079 2 points3 points ago

Same here, the phrasing annoyed me too. Honestly stating "you're not Walmart material" like you said, with not even a hint of exaggeration. Don't want to use an overused gif, but was pretty much like this.

[–]Mzsickness 0 points1 point ago

Did you answer 'yes' to the question: I think it's alright to steal from a company because no one is the victim?

[–]Hazy_V 0 points1 point ago

Oh... NO... YOU GUYS GOT ONE REJECTION?! Did your moms kill themselves?! Fucking assholes.

[–]cuddlyogre 0 points1 point ago

Well, I didn't necessarily mean to leave out the previous dozens of that also rejected me. This one was just actually relevant.

[–]Hazy_V 1 point2 points ago

Oh... well I'm sorry, I don't think I'm helping the conversation then... GAME OOOON.

[–]ProlapsedPineal 0 points1 point ago

Why did the turn you down?

[–]Retanaru 0 points1 point ago

30 people apply to push carts for a living. 29 get turned down.

[–]ProlapsedPineal 0 points1 point ago

I wonder what criteria they used to determine who doesn't cut it.

[–]Retanaru 0 points1 point ago

From my experience with wal-mart employees, they probably pick one out of the pile at random and if they don't work out do it again next week.

[–]cuddlyogre 0 points1 point ago

I'm not entirely sure but I am think it has something to do with my personality profile.

[–]kpin 8 points9 points ago

Eh, I got turned down by a fucking Kangaroo Express gas station, and a Dollar General because of my answers on their online "personality tests".

[–]Miora -1 points0 points ago

Same thing happened to my boyfriend....

[–]notjawn -2 points-1 points ago

Those things are designed to fail whoever takes it. I don't think you can give honest answer on any of them. Funny that a test about ethics is unethical.

[–]mont94 0 points1 point ago

Same here. i thought the interview went great. called a week later and got this "Well we were looking for a girl for cashier work." Seriously? call me in and waste my god damn time just because you didn't wanna make me feel bad. i'd rather be turned down an interview to find out this shit. 2 years and still no job. that DQ can suck it since im off to the army in a couple of months. but god dammit i wanted to go in there and fucking explode

[–]l30 3 points4 points ago

You could sue them for gender discrimination and live off the settlement for awhile.

[–]mont94 0 points1 point ago

i could. but their business has been worse since then. they hired some indian(india) guy and he cannot speak good english. like i called inquiring for another interview(stupid, i know but no good jobs) and i got this guy. when i asked for the manager and i was looking for another interview, this fucking guy decides to do an interview over the phone with me. i hung up since i couldn't understand a damn thing. then i go in to the Dairy Queen a few weeks later to eat and i order my drink large, i get a small, then a medium and then large. seriously? illegal immigrants from mexico can understand more english than Tech support tommy here. but funny thing he was working cashier and funny not a damn girl. they hire a foreigner who can barely understand english but turn me down since i don't have experience. or have a vagina and boobs. fuck everything about that.

[–]insanityv2 1 point2 points ago

Why did they give a shit about the gender of their cashiers?

Like I can sort of understand wanting female salespeople, but a cashier?

[–]HotwaxNinjaPanther 2 points3 points ago

That's what happens when an employer is too bold to be afraid of discrimination suits.

[–]RedSnt 1 point2 points ago

It might be that female cashiers are less likely to enrage customers, or may prevent robberies as few people like to be mean to a cute smile and a pair of boobies.

[–]Retanaru 1 point2 points ago

I was looking into this after realizing my whole town preferably hires girls for cashier positions, it turns out people can be unreasonably afraid of male cashiers. I did a few experiments with the help of a business owner and people would actually try to cut their interaction with the male cashier so short that they wouldn't even buy everything they came for. They were simply more likely to ask the female cashier for help/something than the male one. This was a bit more pronounced when it was a woman doing the buying. It made sense in a way, but at the same time I just kept screaming "the fuck is wrong with these people" in my head.

[–]mont94 0 points1 point ago

yeah makes no fucking sense.

[–]Doctor_Zee[S] -4 points-3 points ago

They didn't even call me for an interview...

[–]mont94 0 points1 point ago

i had to badger them. i gave up on jobs since everywhere i went was some how filled up. fuck working at gamestop. i don't mind shopping there but hell for 1 summer i they led me on for 2 interviews just to say nope we're filled up cuz some girl could work full time. sorry you didn't even get a call, i know that feel. if your a teenager with no work experience, you're fucked.

[–]petey102 1 point2 points ago

Oh snap, I'm sorry. Just pretend you're the arm

[–]Zerble 0 points1 point ago

No skills?

[–]Tiktaky 1 point2 points ago

Same here. Maccas isn't looking for people in their mid 20's who are studying 60 hours a week and can't do business hours.

I ended up getting a job at a 24 hour free clinic, It was perfect, only it was completely illegal.

Teenagers are cheaper to hire, they have more available time in which to work, and most of them can pull overnight shifts.

[–]Epix115 2 points3 points ago

lol, jobies.

[–]NostrilBacon -1 points0 points ago

Oh good, I'm not the only one here who knows that "jobies" is a word for condoms.

[–]Epix115 1 point2 points ago

lol, jobies.

[–]chemelle 2 points3 points ago

You should get a job.

[–]Doctor_Zee[S] -4 points-3 points ago

Trying!

[–]cupofteafather 2 points3 points ago

How hard are you actually trying? It takes a lot of work to get a job. Do better!

[–]bbbored 13 points14 points ago

Ok, so I see people complaining about this quite often on reddit. As someone who spent quite a bit of time in my early 20's "between" jobs I can relate. In the last 2 years, however, I've gotten, held, left on good terms and moved on to something better at 5 jobs (chef, no school). A few pointers.

a)Do something hard. Most people will pass them over but if you choose to take on a less glamourous, lower paying job (i.e. the bottom, even if it's only kinda related to what you really want to do) you will come out of it a better person, with better experience, with more options afterwards than if you simply sat around waiting for your dream job.

b)Be a better person. Stop complaining, stop being so snarky, stop eating and drinking because you're bored, stop being cynical. Otherwise no one will ever take you seriously.

c)aka on the other hand... Be less serious (especially at job interviews). Talk to your potential new boss as if they were an actual fellow human being. When you are forced into a new environment and expected to surpass imagined expectations of yourself you will generally fail; it is an impossible task. Realistically, most people can be trained to do most entry-level tasks fairly easily. The really difficult things come later, when your boss knows he can actually trust you with difficult/sensitive tasks. The point of the interview is to ascertain whether or not you are interested enough in the subject to follow through to that point and if you are an amiable enough person to be around during and beyond that period. So be yourself.

d)We are living in a depression. Do our generation justice. Our grandparents didn't suckle from the teat of their parents into adulthood. They made rotisseries out of broken shopping carts which cooked squirrels trapped with boxes held open with twigs and closed with string to feed their 5 out of 9 children who didn't die of polio in the hopes they would live long enough to kill some Jerry's in the next war.

You're good enough, you're smart enough, and dog gone it, people like you. Now get a fucking job.

[–]Locclo 13 points14 points ago

I'm sorry, but the problem isn't that people are sitting around waiting for a dream job and not getting it. The problem is that a lot of younger Redditors (teens, maybe early 20s) are having trouble finding any job, period. As someone who went through this very issue for about 4 years, I can attest to the fact that I would have taken a job doing damn near anything. The problem is, a lot of places simply will not hire the high school student with zero job experience and restrictive schedule requirements. Why would you hire someone that's only going to be able to be around at certain times, for a certain number of hours a week, over someone who could potentially be available at more varied hours with at least a modicum of prior experience?

b)Be a better person. Stop complaining, stop being so snarky, stop eating and drinking because you're bored, stop being cynical. Otherwise no one will ever take you seriously.

So be yourself.

Both of these points really tend to assume that you're able to get an interview in the first place. As I said at the end of my previous point, people who aren't going to be able to work many hours, who might well quit at the end of summer/winter break, and who have zero experience, are pretty much at the bottom of the priority list for people who actually get interviews. At least in my case, I applied for various jobs every summer in a dozen different places - and over three years, I lucked out and got one interview (for a job I didn't actually get). Does that mean I'm just a shitty person because I didn't get a job for three years?

[–]JViz 9 points10 points ago

The problem is, a lot of places simply will not hire the high school student with zero job experience and restrictive schedule requirements.

It's not just that. Right now employers can afford to be picky. They can afford to tell people it's an entry level job and require 5 years experience, because many people with 5 years experience are lining up next to the guys with no experience for the same job. Lets take Danville, VA for example. Danville had a population of about 50,000 in the 90's. They had 3 major employers, but Dan River Mills closed up shop, that was about 20,000 jobs gone; Hershey left, that was about 10,000 jobs gone; and Good Year scaled down, that was another 10,000 jobs gone. 40,000 low skill or trade skill jobs gone, just like that. Where are these people going to find work? Oh I know, they'll all just apply at McDonald's, because fast food and retail can obviously absorb 40k displaced workers in a small city. The really sad part is that this is happening all over the place in this country and no one can do anything about it.

[–]Vacation_Flu 4 points5 points ago

The bit that gets me is when people hear about stuff like that and throw out "well, they should move". Where to, exactly? And how many people will be able to find work that pays enough to cover the basic costs of moving to a new city within a reasonable amount of time?

[–]shobb592 1 point2 points ago

Oil fields in North Dakota are hiring a ton of people.

[–]mizztanya 0 points1 point ago

South Dakota and Texas too. Not just the oil fields either, since oil pays so well many of the other industries are struggling to find anyone, and no the pay isn't bad, it's just not 6 figures like oil jobs.

When one industry in one state busts, there is a boom in another industry somewhere else. This was a hard lesson learned during the dot com bust for me. I've lived in 6 different states in the last 10 years, ya do what ya gotta do to get by.

[–]luparb 3 points4 points ago

We are living in a depression

A depression means there are no jobs, because there isn't demand for labor.

Basically, you can't just go out and get a job when there are no jobs to get. This seems a very hard concept for most people to grasp.

I always hear "Back in my day I pushed a wheelbarrow and pulled stumps and worked real hard bla bla" - great, the thing is those jobs don't actually exist anymore, or the population is too large for there to be enough jobs for everyone.

We are now entering a global economic recession, and technological automation compounds the issue.

And besides all that, personally I don't even really want a job. All the jobs are bullshit like buying and selling junk to each other that we don't need. And money doesn't make me happy, it's not even worth the trouble.

My generation is fucked. We are facing an overpopulated deforested polluted toxic industrial wasteland. Getting a job will solve absolutely nothing.

[–]shobb592 0 points1 point ago

Go work in an oil field in ND. There's good money there

[–]Obligate_Aberration -5 points-4 points ago

Not enough jobs to go around doesn't mean it's impossible to get a job. 10% unemployment means 90% of people are still employed. Just make sure you're not in the bottom 10%.

[–]luparb 8 points9 points ago

Real unemployment is higher than 10%, as underemployed and discouraged workers are not counted in the official statistics.

Because the cost of living has risen and minimum wages haven't, the working poor aren't getting enough disposable income to spend on other businesses, which means the middle class will also become poorer.

[–]Bipolarruledout 0 points1 point ago

You're special, statistics don't apply to you?

[–]heymrk 1 point2 points ago

We are living in a depression.

Bullshit. If anything, what we're living through is a conservative "I don't want to pay taxes" circlejerk to see how badly they can dick the middle class and poor.

[–]insideoutduck 4 points5 points ago

I'm going to have to start showing this to everyone who tells me to "get a job". IF IT WAS THAT SIMPLE I WOULD HAVE ONE ALREADY.

[–]Angercrank 4 points5 points ago

Move to Fort McMurray, even complete failures make 100 grand a year here. You would fit right in.

[–]insideoutduck 1 point2 points ago

Luckily I'm only looking for a part time job to get a bit of cash before university starts, so I'm not at the complete failure stage yet, but maybe after uni I'll have to do that :P

[–]Flukie 1 point2 points ago

You wouldn't be reading /funny if you was dedicated to getting a job.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

Go to Job Corps. Getting a job isn't necessarily easy, but it is almost universally possible, if you're willing to put in the work. Most people simply aren't, you included.

[–]BabyNinjaJesus 5 points6 points ago

pretty much, they think that "get a job" means "find a career" when in reality it means just get any sort of fucking job, bring some money into the house

[–]POOPY_BALL_GAG -1 points0 points ago

You are exactly right! We have coddled an entire nation of entitled pussies that don't want to work

[–]Black_Chuck_Norris -2 points-1 points ago

Anyone as able bodied as the character from the show should be able to get a job without much effort. Not a career. Not a cool job. But a paying job.

[–]Bipolarruledout 0 points1 point ago

Are you fucking serious? Maybe the actor. Not the character, not in this climate.

[–]dicksamillion 0 points1 point ago

I think any of them would be able to lie their way into a job. To keep a job... Fuck they'd be out in the first day.

[–]Liketololz 0 points1 point ago

Re re re re re re re re re re re re re repost.

[–]dylanroo 0 points1 point ago

What are you, 12?

[–]ActionFlank -3 points-2 points ago

That or someone too good for minimum wage. But if mommy and daddy are going to keep bankrolling him... Can't expect this generation to be self motivated. I hate my generation.

[–]thatsnotoregano 2 points3 points ago

You mean the generation that blindly judges people based on a single post on the internet?

[–]ActionFlank 0 points1 point ago

That's the one.

[–]illmatic707 3 points4 points ago

THE most reposted thing on reddit.

[–]gone_bunburying -1 points0 points ago

Thanks bro

[–]minizanz 1 point2 points ago

the worst is when you call back affter an interview, they say the position was filled and then you get told to go find a job immediately affter.

[–]wildguess101 0 points1 point ago

Work security. Especially if you live anywhere near a medium to large sized city. Most people think you have to be big and bulky to work security, but really, you just need a pair of eyes and the ability to call the cops. The pay is crap, but it gives you time to study while in college, and honestly, it is pretty relaxing.

[–]Ender66 -1 points0 points ago

How many times must this be posted?

[–]hungry138imp 0 points1 point ago

Just keep applying to places, no matter what. Be friendly when you go to turn in the application, be genuine. Try to make it so even if they don't particularly need you, they may want you there. Shrug.

[–]Rizuken 0 points1 point ago

I went to a staffing agency. It worked

[–]Racoonie 0 points1 point ago

I miss that show. :( Seven Seasons and I still wanted more.

[–]lalondtm 0 points1 point ago

Sure there aren't thousands of jobs available to all, but if they are telling you to get a job, it's probably because you aren't even trying.

[–]gene4455 0 points1 point ago

I call reposting this gif in three months

[–]Xtreme05 1 point2 points ago

Well you could go put in a few applications then pester the fuck out of the managers at those places. That's how I got my job. It was after I spent about a year bitching that there were no jobs to be had, using this same exact viewpoint.

Shove your foot in the door and don't leave until you get an interview.

[–]GrinningPariah 0 points1 point ago

Hahahaha, seriously get a job.

[–]ballness10 0 points1 point ago

Metaphorically speaking, Charlie's got the right idea.

[–]AntRDean 0 points1 point ago

IASIP doesn't air in the UK at all, except on Netflix. I used up all my bandwidth allowance, familial good will and sleep rations over a month long period watching series 1 to 7. That was off topic, sorry. Get a fucking job.

[–]cruel_angel_faeces 0 points1 point ago

Seriously though, at least try.

[–]jayhawk1115 0 points1 point ago

There are jobs out there. Manual labor is everywhere. Get off your ass.

[–]CheddarWombat 0 points1 point ago

Oh hey, it's this image... again...

[–]mrdoink20 0 points1 point ago

No seriously, go get a job.

[–]grenadiere42 0 points1 point ago

This may get buried, but I hope you see it. This is something to keep in mind: there are literally dozens of job websites out there. Monster, Indeed, SimplyHired, etc. Make an account with them, upload your resume, Monster and Indeed will send you DAILY job updates. Daily. Geared towards your qualifications. Is it foolproof? No, but it's something.

I just got hired working at a warehouse. It is not a career, but it is a job and will pay the bills. I went on job websites daily and literally searched through hundreds of new job postings a day. Most of them I was not qualified for, but at the end of every day I had applied for at least 2 jobs. That's at least 14 job applications a week.

So if your parents are on your back about this, do what I did and point out to them the number of applications you send in a week. You'll find something eventually.

[–]InHarmsWay 0 points1 point ago

ENTRY LEVEL POSITION

MINIMUM 4 YEARS EXPERIENCE.

[–]ravendta 1 point2 points ago

There are always retail jobs available. Fun work? Hell no. Easy work? That depends on how high your tolerance is for complete jerks (more commonly referred to as customers). But they are jobs, they pay money, and they are available. Suck it up and do what you gotta do.

[–]ooooranges 0 points1 point ago

I've seen a many Redditors complain that having kids would take away their independence and be a drain on their funds.

I'm curious how many of these quite vocal individuals live rent-free in their parents basement and see absolutely no irony whatsoever in that fact.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

One does not simply get a job, I know cause it took me a year

[–]AmatureHour 0 points1 point ago

I never believe a word people tell me when they talk about how bad the job market is or how hard it is. I do not know if it is because I have an education, but I get daily recruitment postings and have had several interviews come from them (all while currently being happily employed and not even trying to look). I had to turn one down because it was not as good as my current. All the oppertunities are for professional jobs. I waltz down the street and find currently hiring signs on so many businesses it is crazy.

I live in Canada as well, could this be another reason? Our job market just is not as bad?

This has always confused me or people just feel like they shouldn't have to work at a crappy job and will not accept anything other then the dream job.

[–]Ninjahamster2k11 0 points1 point ago

"Jobs grow on Jobies"

[–]shake42 0 points1 point ago

Keep applying, and make a decent resume. No spelling or grammar errors. Remember you are selling yourself to the employer, you need to make yourself sound worthy of being hired. Put yourself in their shoes. You can always embellish your resume too.

Be confidant, and have that extra something that the other applicants don't have. Seem genuinely excited and interested about the job, and always ask questions at the end. Dress appropriately, and talk clearly and at a decent volume. Sit up straight.

[–]juliw920 0 points1 point ago

says the guy reposting things on reddit.....

[–]Navae26 -1 points0 points ago

It's not that fucking hard to find a job. I don't care if you're looking for a career, go find something else in the meantime. Income is income. If you go out and put as many applications in as you can, at least one place will call back.

[–]ProjectGSX 0 points1 point ago

Funny thing is, when I entered the work force in the late 90's thats pretty much all you had to do to land a good job.

[–]POOPY_BALL_GAG 0 points1 point ago

I'm 30 and established in my career now, but there wasn't a time that long ago that I was working at McDonalds.

It was humiliating and demoralizing, but it was also very character building. In some strange ways, I learned more about myself and life in those 2 horrible years than college and my career combined.

If you are living at home and not working at all (and are able bodied), you are probably an entitled loser. I worked landscaping, fast food, odd jobs, you name it.

[–]wojovox 0 points1 point ago

The thing is most jobs have online applications so you have to search for a job here with Reddit a click away.

[–]Jib96 0 points1 point ago

When Redditors tell you to stop reposting... You can't seem to do that either

[–]notjawn 1 point2 points ago

But seriously, get a job.

[–]Cluster_One -5 points-4 points ago

I went out and got a job, took me months, mainly avoiding fast food and shitty retail stores.

[–]kpin -2 points-1 points ago

If it's your first job you should be completely motivated to go out and get it.. if you've been working for 15+ years and can't find a job, this gif is more than relevant imo.

[–]JoshZilIa -1 points0 points ago

Im sorry but jobs are not the hardest things to find. I got two job interviews and offers for positions and turned one down and then a third in retail..in the span of 6 months. Currently working two jobs, and also full time student

[–]Kithsander -3 points-2 points ago

I've a B.A. in philosophy and I can't get a job to save my life. It BLOWS.

[–]Bipolarruledout 3 points4 points ago

Starbucks only hires doctorates of Philosophy now.

[–]shobb592 0 points1 point ago

You didn't once think during school "What the fuck good is this going to do me?"

[–]Kithsander -1 points0 points ago

Philosophy majors dominate the top 10th percentile of the bar exam for law school every time it's given. I had originally planned to do that, but ended up with some moral quandaries about it in the end. Other than that, besides become a lawyer, people with said degree also become philosophy teachers. Aside from these two main paths, people with degrees in philosophy get promoted higher and faster in business settings than people with an MBA, statistically. There are lots of options, just none that are available to me apparently.

[–]KnightsOfTheRound -2 points-1 points ago

It must suck being a Doctor now a days

[–]Doctor_Zee[S] -1 points0 points ago

Being a fake doctor doesn't pay as well as you might think

[–]HYP3RHEDGEHOG 6 points7 points ago

Tell that to Dr. Dre

[–]Bipolarruledout 0 points1 point ago

Or Dr. Stephen T. Colbert dfa

/Unless you consider an "honorary" doctorate a real one.

[–]KnightsOfTheRound -2 points-1 points ago

You ever listen to the song get a job and a real haircut by george thorrogood?

[–]Zondraxor 0 points1 point ago

I've been needing to bookmark this gif. Thanks.

[–]explodr -2 points-1 points ago

This is relatable

Don't you mean "when Charlie's friends tell him to get a job?" because clearly you've never had an original thought before.

I hate this fucking gif. Getting a job isn't easy, no one is going to come up to you begging you to work for them. It's yet another excuse for people to be lazy. I bet lazy people are loving the recession, great excuse not to work.

this is exactly how it is actually. you're just lazy and untalented and don't want to take a job at a fast food place because you think you're too good for it

[–]Karl_Satan -3 points-2 points ago

I'm sure if you were 'really' trying they wouldn't make such a big fuss about it. Otherwise, you're a pathetic complainer.

I would kick you out.

I got my first job when I stopped thinking I was better than everyone and tried to be a functional human being. And I think that's the problem that a lot of people around my age have.

It's really not that hard you fucking sperg.

[–]Tiktaky 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes it is. I'm in my mid 20's, so automatically any fast food joints are out. (they simply wont hire you)

I am studying 60 hours a week, So part time and full time work is out.

I can only work 2-3 hours per day because of how long my commute to Uni is, So seasonal work is out.

That leaves me with very few job options.

Add onto that the fact that I often need to be on calipers or in a wheelchair and a lot of opportunities are gone.

Now you need to remove jobs that are not near public transport because I can't drive.

Now you need to remove jobs that are too far away to commute to, and jobs that require me to pay for my training.

Suddenly It's seeming a lot harder, and you really have to look under every rock for a job.

Now it's not that hard for everybody but for some its even harder. and we don't know OP.

College is not a given. If you get kicked out of the house, pick one: get a job or continue classes.
