I have a 12 year old, crosseyed black lab. He is my best friend and he totally knows it. Last night, i caught him laying across all of my pillows, drooling on one, farting on another. I swear He cracked a smile because he knew he could get away with it AND he knew I'd secretly switch the pillows with mybrother's.

Labs will always have a special place in my heart. I got mine, Timber, when I was 10 years old, we pretty much grew up together. He was every bit a part of our family as anyone else. He passed away Tuesday, but I will remember him as a furry brother.

I have several friends who have had that job in the past. It's both the best job and the worst job you'll ever have. The kids who believe in you make it awesome, the parents will make it miserable. Of course then there is also the heat you have to deal with, but for the most part (if I recall correctly) you work for 20 minutes and rest for 40. Repeat 8 times and you are done for the day.

I once worked at a place where a guy had a guide dog. After a while I asked if I could approach the dog (since I figured it was probably rude or whatever) and the guy was totally cool with it. On a single command, the dog went from paying attention to everything to rolling around on the floor and being a plain old dog :) I think it comes down to the owner being okay with the situation and not springing it on them.

It's ok if you ask permission first, and permission is granted. No you are not supposed to walk up to guide dogs and just pet them.

He's being held by the leash, not the harness, which I believe means he isn't working. He could also be in training, and getting used to seeing strange things (like a person in a mascot suit) without freaking out could help prepare him for being a guide dog.

See how the owner has his hands on the leash and not the harness bar? Typically service dogs are trained to be "on" when the owner has their hands on the harness bar and trained that they are "at ease" when the owner has their hand on the leash. The dog in this photo is a very good boy.
