My pup does this too, except because she hates it. If you saw how she holds the leash, it's just like that, except she shakes it like a rag doll. Someday she'll learn to love the leash but man she hates it now.

Our dog when he gets excited will grab his dog tags and run around looking half retarded. He can't contain all the joy so he has to bite it or like his toy socks. HE does enjoy walks though, lets him hang out outside and feel free in the wind for awhile.
