there seems to be a support structure in the shoulders, the person just ducks down while keeping the shoulders aloft. they fall rather stiffly when they drop to the floor

A bar goes under the arms of the "magician," bent so that it looks like the shoulders of the person. Then they duck down, and the bar flips up while they do that. I had a friend who was really into magic tricks, he was in the World's Records book of 2007, or something, for pogo-sticking and jump-roping at the same time. Not the coolest trick, but hey, he's published..
