Burn them at the stake for not worshiping the noodly one.

[–]EmbracingDark 8 points9 points ago

This is actually quite old. To those that don't know, There's a caption that reads, "Atheists, shoving nothing in your face"

[–]accretion 7 points8 points ago

Sounds more like existential nihilism to me.

[–]puffic -2 points-1 points ago

Do you even know what that means?

[–]rasputine 2 points3 points ago

I would assume he does, it's not a complicated position.

[–]puffic 0 points1 point ago

In existentialism, nihilism is not a position. It's a problem to be solved.

[–]rasputine -1 points0 points ago

Er, what? Existential Nihilism is the position that there is no inherent value or meaning in life, at al. It is not two distinct statements.

Like moral relativism, agnostic atheism, republican democracy. Separately the words have one meaning, together another.

[–]puffic 0 points1 point ago

Existential nihilism refers to the existentialist concept of nihilism. It's not really a position so much as a philosophical problem. I don't know of anyone who has actually taken a position of the theory or written a book expounding its virtues. Regarding your definition, I think we were latching onto two different formulations of the same thing. I was talking about how the existentialists characterized it as a subjective emotional response. The abstract definition you claim is less fundamental from an existential perspective.

Do you?

Inaccurate.

A door to door /r/atheist would hand them a pamphlet calling them complete idiots for not being atheist.

[–]fish4me 11 points12 points ago

We would then proceed to devour their children, you know, for science.

[–]vsTerminus -1 points0 points ago

for science.

You monster.

I live next to a park that a youth group swarms every Sunday and Wednesday. It wouldn't be a problem except that they continue to park on the street in front of my house. I have asked them to stop doing this, many times. I have even put out cones to designate the front of my house as a no parking zone, they just moved them. I am sure that the street in front of my house is technically considered public space, but I simply do not support the indoctrination of children. I have decided to start putting Atheist pamphlets under their windshield wipers. Do you know of a good source for such reading material?

[–]goodluckdonavon 1 point2 points ago

thank you

[–]playdohplaydate 0 points1 point ago

seems like a huge waste of time

[–]palparepa 0 points1 point ago

Those evil atheists placed a stick of dynamite on that man's house!

[–]rasputine 0 points1 point ago

Don't worry, the tiny alien will remove the TNT.

This would be a welcome change. I had a pair of baptists come to my door the other day, one in his late teens the other in his early 40's. The older one did most of the talking. It's a little bit sad to see someone's ability to defend their religion crumble and they resort to saying "I'm right." The younger one was asked if he wanted to chime in and just said "Nope." I tried my best to treat them with kindness and respect. Hopefully they won't think atheists are terrible people but I wouldn't be surprised if the one I was talking to thought that I was the person being stubborn and arrogant.

[–]Caoryn 1 point2 points ago

Anyone else notice the stick of dynamite next to the bush?

[–]nacomania -2 points-1 points ago

Actually it would have a few pages talking shit about christians, chic-fil-a, not liking queers, and Romney. That'd be a little more accurate.

[–]benjibobism -3 points-2 points ago

Wow I've NEVER seen this picture on /r/atheism EVER! WOAAAAH

[–]ezmuzzy -1 points0 points ago

Door-to-door agnosticism would be a better fit for this comic, me thinks.

[–]rasputine 0 points1 point ago

They would be uncertain as to whether anything was written in the pamphlets, and would ignore the claims of the other person that nothing is written there because it could just be in white ink.

Or, you know, agnosticism isn't a position on the existence of god, merely the position of wether it's knowable, and that's the implied position of Atheism.
