I got denied ANY aid because my parents were irresponsible and didn't do their taxes.

Keep an eye on all the loans you take out. List them in a spreadsheet with info like amount, date of when they gave you the money, and date when you first start owing only. It takes so little time but so worth it when you have to start paying back.

Also, make payments on it if you can. Putting $50 in here or there can save you a large amount in the future.

I wish I knew all of these things when I first took out loans.

In all honesty I'm doing pretty ok. I'm going to school through Air Force ROTC for Architecture, and I only have to take out one $2,000 loan, so I'm not all that worried, but.... just fuck me. I hate the idea of borrowing money.

For lower rates, try lendingclub.com. For a loan that small, it's a great site and I just used it for a small personal loan.

I cannot stress how important it is for you to focus and decide if what you are doing is 'worth' it. Can you take some of your credits at a community college for really cheap? Can you live at home and save room and board? Can you work and pay-as-you-go? You REALLY need to think about these things. Many digital media jobs do not pay well enough to owe that kind of money. Go on to any loan calculation site and plug in those numbers. You will be paying the equivalent of a very expensive house payment for a very l-o-n-g time. Best of luck to you.

Yeah I am living at home. I go to a school called DigiPen. I'm not sure if you have heard of it, but it is an amazing school that provides a lot of opportunities. Nearly everyone gets a job right out of school, whether it be an animation studio or video game studio. I plan on going into video games. Seeing what I've done so far, I think I'm on the right track. I've managed to gain some passive income through the TF2 workshop that is at least helping me pay the interest on my loans. The 130k I said might be exaggerated, I'm not really sure. I hope I'll be able to handle it, everyone else at the school seems to be able to. Then again, the cost of school is the highest it has ever been.. I try to not think about it.

and the ptb want it that way...should 17-18 yr olds be allowed to take out such huge unique loans...these are not aid...they are the most toxic debt in the usa.

things they won't tell you compound interest, capitalized interest...these loans are interest first so if you pay the 'required amount' each month there is a good chance in 10 yrs you will be staring at more then you took out by at least double.

private and federal loans both have their own insidious realities but keep in mind the feds can garnish wages, social security, disability payments without informing you or taking you to court.

I already graduated. I was insinuating that more time will be spent on reddit than studying. Hence you may be there a little longer than 4 years. had I been on reddit in college It probably would have taken me an extra year to get shit done.
