Who ever did that is ballsy as fuck.

[–]viralizate 11 points12 points ago

If you get caught (and you're not in possession of course), what was your crime?

[–]Respected_Doctor 31 points32 points ago

Assault on a police officer.

[–]Kushyyy 14 points15 points ago

In the US probably. I don't know about Norway.

[–]ola0711 3 points4 points ago

As a Norwegian, I think they would just laugh it of, and send the guy on his way. I love norway, it´s kind of like canada, just more cozy :) [7]

[–]dod888 0 points1 point ago

also norwegian and i highly doubt this, police in norway fuck you over for nothing all the time. so this ye no way they just let u go.

[–]ola0711 2 points3 points ago

We most have met different cops I guess, to me, they have been nothing but nice :)

[–]dod888 1 point2 points ago

fair enough :)

[–]nod23 0 points1 point ago

Have you even met a non-Norwegian police officer? The contrast is striking. You would not believe what passes for police abroad.

[–]dod888 -1 points0 points ago

yes iv met a few police from other countrys, from my experiance thou norwegian police is the worst, Amsterdam cops the best :)

[–]nod23 -1 points0 points ago

You cannot possibly have met the "worst" if you consider Norwegian police that...

I'm sorry, there are just so many to compare with, from the US to Africa. Bribes, violence, attitudes etc. I'm happy you haven't met any of those.

[–]dod888 -1 points0 points ago

i never said worst in the world, i said worst iv met, u asked if i had met any outside norway i said yes. both are true. i mean OFC there are worse cops then norwegian cops, u cant even compear to the worst, but if u compear to the other countrys near norway that iv met cops in, then yes ABOSOLUTLY the worst.

[–]Mantraz 0 points1 point ago

I dont think they would laugh this off, a joke or something similar, sure, they might. Depends on the guy, they're just people.

Isn't "Jeg" pronounced like "Ye-i-gh", or is Google and LiveMocha lying to me [/r/conspiracy]?

[–]darthfrizzle 1 point2 points ago

I always remember it because "jeg" rhymes with "I". (From a Norwegian Studies Major)

[–]highman86 1 point2 points ago

He says it looks like it was from a music festival in a town called Tønsberg.

[–]SenorFreebie 1 point2 points ago

I actually understood that. Scandanavian languages would be so easy to learn. My favourite phrase I ever heard, was a Swedish girl who thought I was Swedish too asked something like; Kan Yag Sitta har? And kept on speaking to me in Swedish after I said 'of course' in an Aussie accent.

[–]rathat 0 points1 point ago

Norwegian(Bokmål) is the easiest language for an English speaker to learn. Once you have learned Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are super easy to learn.

[–]BlackjackChess 0 points1 point ago

Well Norwegian and Swedish are slightly intelligible [according to an old book I read], mainly due to Norwegian coming from the Swedish language, which was predominate when Norway was a part of Sweden.

I have read up that Bokmål is the easiest to learn, but it is hard to find a reliable source for languages online [especially Norwegian].

[–]rotearmee 0 points1 point ago

Do you mean they're mutually intelligible? They definitely are, and not just slightly. The political divisions between the Scandinavian countries are really the only reason Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are considered different languages and not just dialects of the same language.

Not sure what you're saying about Norwegian "coming from the Swedish language". All Scandinavian languages have a common root in Proto-Norse. Even with the close political ties between Norway and Sweden, Swedish has never been spoken in Norway (except by Swedes, obviously).

[–]nod23 0 points1 point ago

That's hardly true, even when Norway was part of Denmark or Sweden it was a distinct language. The difference between a language and dialect is hard to determine.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]nod23 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, except none of them are spoken languages...

[–]rathat 0 points1 point ago

Rosetta stone. Fucking incredible software.

[–]BlackjackChess 1 point2 points ago

No Norwegian [it does have Swedish, though] and often times considered unreliable, especially for languages without a Latin Alphabet [Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, et cetera].

[–]watchyourspeed 0 points1 point ago

Really? Easier than French and Spanish?

[–]rathat 0 points1 point ago

Oh absolutely. It's just never taught. Hardest for an English speaker would be ones that are not at all related to English. Like Finnish or Japanese.

[–]watchyourspeed 0 points1 point ago

We Americans tend to freak out when we see unfamiliar letters!

[–]bouffanthairdo 0 points1 point ago

I found Japanese incredibly easy to learn to speak. You really only need about 2 semesters before a decent proficiency. It's the damn alphabet (kanji) that will make you quit if you aren't dedicated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it be "every day" not "everyday"? I'm asking sincerely since I don't really know--it just makes me cringe every time I see "everyday".

Nah, last month it was decided that r/trees would be the target of Game of Trolls. This guy is a stupid one.

[–]illogicalexplanation 6 points7 points ago

Can we make Game of Trolls the playful target of r/trees, much like the whole Hamradio thing we did?

Nothing but memes/reaction gifs and smoke spots for a few days over there?

[–]LordSparkles 3 points4 points ago

What is this HAM radio thing?

[–]illogicalexplanation 1 point2 points ago

Something to do with pics of a bottle rocket or something. Someone came in here looking for radio advice, or vice-a-versa. This led to a plethora of trees related posts on the amateur radio subreddit. To be honest I was high when it happened and don't quite remember.

[–]Sk1nnyB 3 points4 points ago

obviously not, since he riled you up enough to comment his posts three separate times

I don't think of him as a troll, I think he's satirizing the circlejerk that trees can be sometimes

[–]Desinis 8 points9 points ago

The only thing I'm "riled" about is that these kids don't know how to troll, and completely miss the point. Anyone can be an idiot.

[–]Adictas 98 points99 points ago

Cops in Norway are mostly assholes, so this is indeed extreme sport

[–]highman86 27 points28 points ago

As Norwegian and former US resident I can tell you that cops in Norway are mostly polite and cool, I know several cops who smoke weed.

PSA-edit: However, the pot-smoking-cops do perform their job on duty and fines people who smokes weed in public, you also get it on your record.

[–]Hojimachong 7 points8 points ago

As someone moving to Oslo next week, this makes me happy.

[–]Svanders 8 points9 points ago

I know this might be a longshot (but for me it´s worth it),but if you want a roommate to share rent with, please contact me. Im going to Oslo looking for work. : )

[–]drakenkorin13 2 points3 points ago

As someone who also smokes weed I can confirm it is cool

[–]Adictas 4 points5 points ago

Fellow Norwegient! :)

It is certain that not all of them are assholes, and some places they are more cool than others! But counting my own and my friends experience (which is way too big...), alot of them will fuck you by any means possible if they do not like you. That is not a fuck I recommend participating in.

[–]beirch 0 points1 point ago

You do not get it on your record if it is below 4 grams iirc

[–]highman86 0 points1 point ago

Friend busted with only half a joint, got on his record.

[–]MolemanStrikesBack 30 points31 points ago

I've been in Oslo for six weeks now, and it mainly seems that cops are just...nonexistent. I've seen like two cop vans the entire time.

[–]GreenPresident 22 points23 points ago

Welcome to northern Europe.

[–]ChocolateOrange 2 points3 points ago

They exist. Idle in public parks during the evening and you'll spot a few cars cruising around. Usually a cue to up and leave quietly.

[–]tharju 10 points11 points ago

Cops in Norway are mostly assholes

would you rather have an asshole cop or trigger happy cop. Welcome to 'Murica!

[–]watchyourspeed 19 points20 points ago

We mostly have trigger happy asshole cops down here in the South.

[–]Dez_Moines 12 points13 points ago

Floridian here. I can confirm this.

[–]whiskey_nick 15 points16 points ago

Shit, even your neighborhood watch is dangerous.

[–]ProxyMuncher 9 points10 points ago

Just don't buy skittles.

[–]who_r_you -2 points-1 points ago

sorry this isn't /r/circlejerk. tens of thousands of cops interact with the public every day and dont shoot anyone. have you been shot by a cop? has anyone you know been shot by a cop? have you had any friends of friends of friends shot by a cop? a dude who knew a guy who heard a story of a bro who had a friend who thinks he saw someone shot by a cop?

[–]tharju 2 points3 points ago

it doesn't have to be from personal experience to see we have more trigger happy cops than they are. I am sure google can spit up all sort of information if you want to dig further. Which redditors still takes she says he says things as a fact? Even in my area (Bay area) there was a case a couple of years ago where bart police shot a guy in the back while he was cuffed and already on the ground on his belly. Police claimed he mistook taser with a handgun which is possible but then was it necessary when the kid was already on the ground and cuffed? Long story shot a young kid life was lost, a cop was sentenced to two years. Look it up because I didnt hear it form a dude who knew a guy who heard a story of a bro who had a friend who thinks he saw someone shot by a cop.

[–]who_r_you -1 points0 points ago

Even in my area (Bay area) there was a case a couple of years ago

Exactly. Cops shoot people they shouldn't, but it's not as statistically significant as "police state reddit" would have you think. If the USA was how much of reddit seems to describe it bodies would be dropping every single week of the year in every single big city in America.

[–]tharju 1 point2 points ago

whoa whoa slow down and read what i wrote carefully.

it doesn't have to be from personal experience to see we have more trigger happy cops than they are

i am not implying all cops are bad or US is a police state. I actually and personally think from my personal experience that San Francisco Police are very helpful and friendly.

[–]SenorFreebie 1 point2 points ago

That's been my experience of police world wide. I just wouldn't ask them to help me roll a joint, because I'm not naieve.

That doesn't mean I don't think some police cultures use excessive force or enforce laws I disagree with.

[–]watchyourspeed 0 points1 point ago

You don't know anything about me or the law enforcement in my area so please don't assume that I don't know what I'm talking about.

[–]who_r_you -2 points-1 points ago

then please do go the fuck on and inform us all mate. i'm from the fucking south. please link us to all the horible tales of cops shooting fuckers weekly in your area.

[–]eschraghi 33 points34 points ago

I got a good story about cops from there. I live in New Jersey, and for 2 years before moving to Norway I lived in a shitty, high crime area. As you know, living in such an area, the cops can be just as dangerous as the criminals. I'm scared of them, and where they are, I am not.

So I was living in Oslo for a while after this. I was in some nightclub with a bunch of Norwegian girls, having a good time, when all of a sudden I see cops inside while I'm trying to get a drink. Naturally, I leave and stand across the street smoking cigarettes waiting for the people I showed up with to get out. I'm there for about 10 minutes when my phone rings. It's one of the girls, lets call her Kari.

"Where did you go?" she asks.

"I left. There's like 15 cops in there," I say.

"What? Are they there because of you?"

"Kari, God no. But the cops showed up, and I left."

"I don't understand what's wrong. Just come back in."

"No way."

So Kari comes outside to talk to me, and I'm standing there watching this club being swarmed with cops. "Do you have drugs?"

"No, I'm clean. I'm just scared of cops and don't like to be around them."

"Scared?" she says, and starts laughing. "What is there to be scared of? They do not arrest you for no reason. The police are here to keep us safe."

Here, I just started laughing my ass off at her, which confused her even more. "What the fuck IS this country!?" After that I explained my relationship with cops in America, and it made more sense to her, but still! You may say that the cops there are assholes, but I can guarantee they are nothing compared to cops around here. I have so many stories there of when I'd get into fight or flight mode because someone was too close to me, or asking me weird questions when I was alone on the street, and every time my Norwegian friends would think I was totally nuts for being so anxious in these situations.

Then again, they all told me I'd get stabbed trying to buy hash in Gronland from the Africans, and they were never anything but kind and professional. One of them even looked at the amount he was gonna give me, went "no, that's too small hang on", called his dude, picked up more, and gave me a fair amount.

Ah, I do miss it there. Especially your women :)

[–]i_cant_fap_to_that 12 points13 points ago

I was waiting for "And then the cops started shooting....."

[–]IAmAQuantumMechanic 10 points11 points ago

Cops in Norway aren't armed. They can have something in their car, but they need special permission from their boss to carry it.

[–]lunacraz 1 point2 points ago

huh... even in NJ (i assume Newark or maybe even Camden? i hope not), the cops shouldn't hassle you if you're a clean cut looking white dude... unless of course you're not !

[–]SETHW 0 points1 point ago

fwiw you can find naive people in america that act like the usa cops are on their side too.. until they arent.

[–]caverave 5 points6 points ago

Why is it not in Norwegian?

[–]SilverGoat 1 point2 points ago

Well if you're reffering to the sign i'd guess because it's the title of a pretty famous song.

Not my cup of tea but here is the verision i keep hearing.

[–]entillthedeathofme 6 points7 points ago

Do many people blaze in Norway? I hosted a Norwegian foreign exchange student this year and she seemed really sketched out when I told her I smoked and said that in Norway smoking bud is pretty rare and only very "druggy" people do it. Obviously she could have just been hanging out with straight edge kids, but can anyone from Norway confirm or deny?

[–]Narkofylla 8 points9 points ago

you got the wrong exhange student. I would toke up with you all day every day! Skål!

[–]striata 5 points6 points ago

Relevant name...

[–]skruf02 6 points7 points ago

Flowers are hard to get by here, but hash however, are fairly easy to get your hands on. Especially in Oslo, where you'll be asked several times while walking around the train station "Oslo S" by shady dudes. It is not true that only "junkies" smoke weed / hash, as I have a lot of stoner friends, and there's actually online communities and the annual rally for legalization in Oslo.

It is true however, that us norwegians are perhaps a little more careful as to reveal the fact, because it isnt inbreded into our culture like you 'Mericans had it back in the 60s and so on.

[–]clinically_derezzed 0 points1 point ago

Flowers are available constantly, and that brick stuff they sell on the street is a disgrace to hashish. No offense.

[–]ChocolateOrange 2 points3 points ago

There are more "alcohol only, everything else will have you sucking cocks for your fix within a week" type kids in Norway.

It really depends on the type of people your friends are.

[–]rotearmee 1 point2 points ago

It's not as common as in the US. According to Wikipedia, adult lifetime cannabis use (adults who have tried it at least once) for Norway is 16.2%, while it's 42.4% for the US.

If you live in one of the larger cities you probably won't see smoking as anything out of the ordinary. I would guess this student was either pretty straight-laced or just from a rural area.

[–]Nugghuffa420 5 points6 points ago

I wonder if you'd get arrested if they caught you tryna do this. Whoever succeeded deserves a [pat on the back].

[–]shadowblade 9 points10 points ago

[–]noNoParts 8 points9 points ago

Thank you. Painfully obvious to me too.

[–]Fudgalicious 4 points5 points ago

I think it was supposed to be obvious, no?

[–]Xlator -1 points0 points ago

Swedish police: Monkeys with guns on a power trip. I don't know if Norwegian police carry firearms, but I would have been much more impressed if this was a Swedish cop.

[–]highman86 6 points7 points ago

Nah, In Norway not even the criminals carry guns on a day to day basis, much less the police.

[–]Xlator 0 points1 point ago

Just sounds like an altogether nicer place to be. What's more, no fucking EU bullshit. If I can find work, I'm movin'.

[–]valicool 7 points8 points ago

Much like American police.

[–]sprinricco 2 points3 points ago

Hey hey, it's bad, but not nearly that bad.

[–]sprinricco 1 point2 points ago

Depends. Since I moved to Gothenburg, I've mostly met nice police men.

[–]Vertyx 0 points1 point ago

I'm close friend with a few cops in Gothenburg and have never met a cop that wasn't extreamely nice/polite here but they do take their job very serious so I wouldn't expect most ents to like them for obvious reasons.

[–]sprinricco 2 points3 points ago

Of course! But to be fair, they're just doing their job. It's not like I blame the cashier at the store because the price of tomatoes is to high. I have friends who've been busted, and aside from the whole arresting, the police has been very nice to them.

If they would use violence or something like that, then I would get mad. But as long as weed is criminalized, I think it's our own responsibility to be discrete so we just don't get in any confrontation with the police. It's not rocket science.

[–]Xlator -1 points0 points ago

Hah.

http://sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.aspx?programid=104&artikel=5220733

TL;DR/Translation - Human rights activists trying to stop the deportation of a Christian to Afghanistan from a refugee prison outside Gothenburg formed a ring around a police car to prevent it setting off. The policeman at the wheel started the car and accelerated wildly, knocking several people over. One man landed on the bonnet and the driver sped off at 50km/h with him hanging on for dear life. He kept going for 5 kilometers before stopping. The deportation was eventually stopped by the pilot who refused to take off while the refugee was still on board.

If the roles were reversed, the perpetrator would be facing assaulting a police officer and attempted murder or manslaughter charges now. Worst case scenario for this policeman, probably suspension, with full pay.

[–]sprinricco 1 point2 points ago

Oh, did I say 100% of all the policemen? Because if I did, I'm sorry. If I didn't, you're using a fallacy.

I knew a fellow stoner who beat his wife, so by that logic, all stoners are wife beaters.

[–]God_of_Thunder 0 points1 point ago

I have no idea what police you've been meeting but I've never had any problems with them.

[–]God_of_Thunder 0 points1 point ago

Nah they aren't that bad.

A few days ago there was a story about a drunk guy who had simply jumped into a police van and said "I'm drunk, take me to the drunk box". The cops drove him there, let him sober up and let him go the following morning.

They actually encouraged people to do that if they find themselves too drunk to get home.

[–]SenorFreebie 0 points1 point ago

Is it legal to drink on the street? What about in Sweden? People didn't seem to have much fear of being caught for that, or smoking in underground stations. But when it came to having a joint, well ... not that I ever engaged in that kind of activity, but, I would imagine, you might get very paranoid as a group, speak about how police might 'bust you' and find a very dark place a long way away from street lights...

[–]MMMMMdericious 2 points3 points ago

True story: My friend tried this in a bar on a cop who was dealing with some minors right near him. Although the cop dropped the "assault" charge later, there was no taking back the sever ass kicking and pepper sparing that my buddy took. I'm Canadian I can only imagine the results in the states.

Only has himself to blame. Shouldn't have done that to the cop.

I fear in the US the likelihood that such an act would result in a tazing would be too high to safely attempt that.
