What? Two years ago we were one play away from going to the Stanley Cup again. Last year was a down year due to crap goal-tending, but the Lightning are a pretty solid team with great ownership and a good coach.

Frankly, TB would scare me if they had a good goaltender and a shut-down D-man to corral the other teams' first lines.

They have a lot of talented forwards and just need to shore up the defense, plus Stamkos is what, 19 or 20? He'll stick it out awhile yet, Yzerman will sort them out and when he does, watch out.

Yeah, the Lightning have never had a really good franchise goalie. Even in 2004, Khabibulin just got hot at the right time and was good enough for the team to win with offense. Rolloson was a stop-gap who played much better than expected in 2010. I'd love to see us get a good young goalie for once.

I really don't think so. They've had a really rough time of it lately, but they've just been a 'meh' team since the strike. It was so sad to see the strike happen and the team lose cup players afterwards. On the plus side, I have a picture of my niece sitting in the cup as a baby from the year we won.

They do have some great players, great ownership and a good coach... but they repeatedly make errors on the ice that are sickening to watch. It just feels, at times, that they have no drive or enthusiasm.

EDIT - On a related note, it was kinda a piss off to see the team drive to the cup and start building a much heftier hometown fan following than they ever had only to lose that steam because of the pause.

Because of the excitement over Stamkos, Yzerman being in charge, improvements to the Ice Palace, and a team owner who is committed to the franchise, I think that the Tampa Bay area is more committed than ever - even during 2004.

I moved away last year, so maybe it changed for the better. It just seemed like people were becoming less interested. I spent a lot of time at the IP (I refuse to call it the Forum) in 2004, so my perception is probably skewed.

I love the Lightning though, lifelong fan even if I have to deal with all the hate now that I am saddled in Devils/Penguins/Flyers country.

I refuse to call it the "Forum" too. And I'm from St. Pete, so I'm equally peeved that it changed from St. Petersburg Times Forum to Tampa Bay Times Forum.

I'm also a life long fan even though I live in Capitals country now.

BTW, I went to a game last year and the Ice Palace is sick now. The seats are all padded, there is a huge organ on one side, and there are these electric things that shoot off electricity when they score. You should try to go to a game if you're down there :).
