That kid will make a killer defender one day, pure commitment.

[–]peachesgp 62 points63 points ago

Absolutely, he's got it in his blood.

[–]Vulturas 126 points127 points ago

And his face.

[–]Capta1nPlanet 99 points100 points ago

He's got it in the blood on his face

[–]kindlebee 54 points55 points ago

[–]IgnosticZealot 25 points26 points ago

[–]amcNut 16 points17 points ago

Scott parker: ENG national team... So yea he is pretty good

[–]WillyWankerFagtory 8 points9 points ago

If only he was playing hockey instead of football.

[–]AwkwardHyperbola 9 points10 points ago

[–]I_Am_The_Mole 0 points1 point ago

We miss Gordo here in Washington. What a great PKer and, faceoff ace.

[–]dulby 3 points4 points ago

I believe this is a very popular current defender. I forgot which one but I thought I saw this clip on one those life story segments. I could be wrong but I am almost positive this kid grew up to be a pro.

[–]beansley 0 points1 point ago

ha thats even better, i knew my judgements would one day turn out to be correct! Today is that day friends let us celebrate!!!

[–]besik 0 points1 point ago

right on man, it's Scott Parker! :)

[–]bluescape 1 point2 points ago

Too much commitment. Adult soccer players are all about acting like they got hit by a semi every time they get in the vicinity of an opposing team member.

I'm exaggerating of course, but that whole dramatic injury shit really bothers me in both soccer and basketball.

[–]beansley 0 points1 point ago

you know, i find its more a recent development in basketball too. I was a kid during the bulls era, and i dont remember flopping like Ive seen the past 3 seasons.....well ever. It saddens me that the game has resorted to this.

When I was playing growing up, whether on the streets or competitively, a foul wasnt called unless it was actually a foul and nobody BS'd that ish either.

Just makes me sad man

[–]zorflieg 103 points104 points ago

Rule #2 - Double Tap

[–]BrewmasterSG 14 points15 points ago

A true pro would do 2 to the sternum, 1 to the head.

[–]Powermaurer 13 points14 points ago

good'ol mozambique drill eh?

[–]cefriano 0 points1 point ago

I like how the more pro you are, the more ammo you waste on probably dead bodies.

[–]BrewmasterSG 3 points4 points ago

I prefer to think of it as more like "Only an amateur would risk having a 'probably' dead body shoot him in the back."

[–]cefriano 0 points1 point ago

What would two to the chest and one to the head accomplish that one to the chest and one to the head would not?

[–]stabstabstabstab 4 points5 points ago

You dont aim for the head on your first shot because there is a higher chance of missing. You aim for center mass to quickly incapaciate them and then confirm their death with a headshot.

[–]BrewmasterSG 3 points4 points ago

expanding on stab4's comment and several other comments in this thread is an explanation of the mozambique drill (also known as failure-to-stop drill).

Picture coming around the corner and you are suddenly up close and personal with a hostile. Every fraction of a second counts.

Step 1) You don't have time to aim properly so you squeeze off two quick shots at center of mass. These two shots might be from the hip, or preferably from a Center-Action-Relock stance. Either way it is a reflexive, aiming with the body rather than the sights double-tap to center of mass. This takes a lot of practice to do properly and accurately (hence the 'drill' part)

Step 2) Assess. Taking a fraction of a second only, assess your target. Did your shots hit? Is the hostile incapacitated?

Step 3) If your target is showing any signs of life, or worse, resistance, (they have 'failed to stop') place one carefully aimed shot in the head. Move on before someone investigates the source of the gunfire (you).

The theory is that a double-tap should be damaging enough to at least buy you enough time (perhaps a hair under a second) to place the headshot.

[–]lethic 1 point2 points ago

This isn't a video game, you don't just respawn if you die and you don't have to min/max your money/ammo to buy better weapons later. Your goal is to definitively incapacitate your target as fast and as reliably as possible, hence the mozambique drill.

[–]lamoj 1 point2 points ago

The Mozambique Drill.

[–]shadofx 0 points1 point ago

eyeballs?

[–]fangsby 312 points313 points ago

What he lacks in skill, he makes up for in dedication.

[–]Tiktaky 394 points395 points ago

I for one think he is twice as skilled than most professional players. Do you notice how he actually made physical contact with an object before becoming injured, That's something not every player can master.

[–]TerryArchi 186 points187 points ago

Not only that, he got up!

[–]Stanlezz 97 points98 points ago

Is that even possible in football?

Let's not pretend Messi is some paragon of virtue. He doesn't dive a lot but he does dive.

[–]reese_ridley 16 points17 points ago

[–]Dillbill 14 points15 points ago

Okay, I'm a fan of Messi, but just because some random person on the Internet compiles a couple of plays where he does not dive does not mean that he doesn't dive. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xSLxa3MYMcw

[–]thestinkypinky 5 points6 points ago

His touches and body control are fucking ridiculous.

[–]00110110_00111001 0 points1 point ago

I dot watch soccer so these were the first two videos I've ever seen of him playing. He seems so amazing I might start watching now.

[–]liarliarpantsonfire 1 point2 points ago

If you didn't have a chance to watch him play this season, you missed out on one of the greatest individual exhibitions of footballing in the history of the game.

[–]ramo805 1 point2 points ago

it's so nice not having to listen to Linkin Park in a compilation video.

[–]habshabshabs 0 points1 point ago

I think you mean Zlatan.

[–]Basbhat 0 points1 point ago

Maybe if they were playing football

[–]SilentHorizon 4 points5 points ago

Twice, even.

[–]lunarmodule 1 point2 points ago

And it looks like he was going for three!

[–]reese_ridley 13 points14 points ago

he is a professional player. that's Scotty Parker, vice-captain of the English national team.

[–]vader101 0 points1 point ago

Where is this posted?

[–]Jonny_Watts 1 point2 points ago

vice-captain

Yep. British.

[–]The_Bloser 11 points12 points ago

That Scott Parker plays for England, he is a amazing football player(soccer).

[–]peterkingsnuggets 8 points9 points ago

That's what it takes to get ahead.

[–]crigget 10 points11 points ago

[–]Yaki304 1 point2 points ago

Twice Ahead

[–]peterkingsnuggets 0 points1 point ago

Don't be cheeky. When facing adversity, you can't just lie down. You have to take a good look at the global problem and use your head.

[–]LiteweightPhenomenal 8 points9 points ago

What makes you think he lacks skill?

[–]e7t 5 points6 points ago

Why is that not skilful? As a defender, I can tell you that throwing yourself in front of the ball sometimes is something that separates you from a lot of other players, and is a big part of being a good defender.

[–]testbug0 0 points1 point ago

born to be in the England national team

[–]JJTV23 1 point2 points ago

What he lacks in dedication he makes up for in not bruising quickly

[–]nucleus_von_fission 29 points30 points ago

"I'll save you! Everybody get behind my face!"

[–]rouge321 1 point2 points ago

Hehe.. Fabio puns get my upvote

[–]nucleus_von_fission 1 point2 points ago

Almost direct quote from a Brent Butt routine. He kills me.

[–]LEIFey 16 points17 points ago

He gets up and gets ready for a third. That's a trooper.

[–]MustangMarti 26 points27 points ago

Not what I expected after reading the title...

[–]csun723 0 points1 point ago

Strangely, this is exactly what I expected after reading the title.

[–]leisuretown -1 points0 points ago

I expected an old, played-out repost, and that's exactly what I got.

[–]JustaNiceRegularDude 10 points11 points ago

Give that kid a snow cone.

[–]Grass_Starters_FTW 1 point2 points ago

Even if you only play a half-game, you still get the whole snow cone.

[–]JustaNiceRegularDude 0 points1 point ago

Grape is good. Blue is good too. But the big yellow one is the sun.

[–]bigg10nes 11 points12 points ago

A young John Terry, perhaps?

The guy's a jerk, but you won't find a more committed footballer.

[–]Hurricane043 7 points8 points ago

It's actually Scott Parker as a kid

[–]kelevr4 0 points1 point ago

My friend now only refers to him as JT Klan or JTK

[–]kungfuman104 1 point2 points ago

Epitome of taking one for the team x 2

[–]Flarehl 3 points4 points ago

Hahahaha, almost this exact situation happened to me back in middle school. First was right in the stomach, and second was my face. Saved us from losing though. Worth it. Although noone offered me ice. :(

[–]oniongasm 0 points1 point ago

As a keeper, thanks. I would have given you a firm clap on the shoulders. But no, no ice.

[–]Flarehl 0 points1 point ago

That would be even better, at least I think so. Much better than just a "woah, you ok?"

[–]oniongasm 0 points1 point ago

Reinforcement. Do something good and I make sure to show my appreciation. Fuck up and you get your ass chewed out. And keepers learn early how to yell.

[–]CaporalViolet 4 points5 points ago

Scott Parker in his younger days

[–]jamheldion 3 points4 points ago

That kid sure was using his head.

[–]mrbarry1024 2 points3 points ago

That kid has a mean left-foot

[–]damnrooster 1 point2 points ago

that would explain why it nailed the other kid twice in the face.

[–]EightySixxed 2 points3 points ago

I see a future in the Secret Service.

[–]croissanwich 2 points3 points ago

[–]freecandy_van 1 point2 points ago

Expected a Penn State post, pleasantly surprised.

[–]guyver_dio 6 points7 points ago

[–]PauloPelle94 3 points4 points ago

If I remember rightly this is actually Tottenham Hotspurs, England Vice-Captain and Central Midfielder Scott Parker when he was younger... good to see he hasn't changed!

[–]colmshan1990 0 points1 point ago

That's Scott Parker.

That's how old this GIF is. Please stop reposting.

I read the title as the kid literally "takes it" for the team

[–]MetaRiddler 0 points1 point ago

Aren't they on the same team?

[–]nano_ser 0 points1 point ago

'atta boy,thats the spirit.

[–]Roronoaa 0 points1 point ago

He will make a great defender if he continues playing soccer.

[–]bioskope 1 point2 points ago

Reminds me of John Terry, in the match against Italy

[–]alexLAD 1 point2 points ago

Except a kid, not a shit-cunt.

[–]bioskope 2 points3 points ago

Regardless, that was a badass performance from Terry.

[–]Dollarama 1 point2 points ago

He should have been the goalie.

[–]oniongasm 0 points1 point ago

No way! As a goalie, I want guys like him around in the field. Like another goalpost, only mobile! And bigger!

This reminds me of something that happened to me when I was a kid playing soccer on a team. I remember being hit in the head with a soccer ball, then I remember being escorted off the field because I wouldn't stop trying to kick the ball while I was lying on the ground and was carded.

I used to play soccer for 15+ years and captained the HS varsity team....but now only my GF gets the advice I used to give my fellow defense-men.

Sometimes.....you're just going to have to take balls to the face. It's in the job description.

If only announcers were at kids games...

john-Amazing Rooney taking the ball up the left side pressing hard towards walsher, A kick! walsher putting the body infront of that sho- Another KICK BY ROONEY! AND OMG unbelievable!

tom-Do you Believe in fairy tales john?

john-I do now tom. Walsher putting that body infront of that ball keeping the bears shots on goal 9-5 in favor of the coyotes. Ball is knocked out.

tom-Walsher is a great all around player and the reason why his team is leading in the tournament.

john-Yes Tom overall 1st round draft pick in KJL and today he has shown why he is the player to have right now with 4 blocked shots 1 goal and 1 assist in this game. And overall since the tournament has begun 4 goals 8 shots blocked and 3 assists.

tom-I agree john. Walsher is the best thing to happen to the league since KJL star Jeremy Pomp. The way the bears are playing they are never going to be able to get past Walsher and score without stepping it up and creating an offensive opening.

john-That's right they have to learn to pass the ball and keep walsher out side of the play. But he is just too fast and too unflinching. His unwavering courage infront of that ball has earned him 22 blocked shots in the regular season.

tom-Yes john. Walsher has also led the regular season with 15 goals beating Rooney by 2 goals.

john-And today Walsher has kept Rooney from tying up in goals. Walsher in 1st with 4 goals and rooney in second place with 3.

tom-How must Rooney be feeling after having not 1 but 2! shots blocked by his only competition in the league. John-Probably not great tom. You can clearly see that on the second shot Rooney put everything he had into that shot causing him to fall down afterwards.

tom- Thats right he did. One more goal and they would have tied up not only for the team but for the overall most goals by a player this year. john its unbelievable how persistent walsher is against that ball.

John- You think Harrison will buy walsher dinner tonight?

Tom- I sure would john. Rooney's kicks are the most accurate and well controlled next to walsher. If walsher had'nt of put that body up it wouldv'e hit the back of that net. His angled shots are unstoppable.

john- And the only reason he hasn't scored more? walsher blocking rooneys shots the entire season Walsher having blocked 15 of the 28 shots rooney has put up against the coyotes.

tom- Rooney is pouring everything into this match but will it be enough to lead the bears to victory or is it a little too late for the bears to make a comeback. We will be back after this commercial break Coyotes lead 3-2.

[–]Youcanbeasuperhero2 1 point2 points ago

That kid is a fucking ANIMAL, A SAVAGE WILD ANIMAL AFTER THE BALL. HE KNOWS NO STOP, ONLY GO.

[–]MileHighBarfly 1 point2 points ago

Hilarious! And I haven't seen this on /r/funny in like 4 days.

[–]tristramcandy 0 points1 point ago

Hahaha this happened to me when I played soccer. I got hit in the stomach with the ball and doubled over. The ball rolled back to the girl who had kicked it after it hit me in the stomach, and as soon as I stood up she kicked it again. Once again, of course, it hit me right in the stomach.

[–]Vew 0 points1 point ago

Ha, I had a similar experience but I was on the other side. I was a forward and their team was trying to kick it out of bounds. Nailed me right in the stomach and got the wind knocked out of me. As I was trying to limp off the field another player tried kicking it out again only to hit me in the stomach again. Coach came up to me and said good job keeping the ball in play.

[–]ryudos 0 points1 point ago

Gah, this is like watching a third person video of my childhood.

[–]thegamingbau5 -1 points0 points ago

This is the third time I've seen this GIF. Please stop reposting.

[–]McNally 1 point2 points ago

He's like the soccer/football version of those fainting goats..

[–]imjustgonnalurk 1 point2 points ago

That is pretty similar to something that happened to me as a kid. Playing goalie, other team had a penalty shot. I blocked it...with my crotch. No cup that day, of course (last time that ever happened, let me tell you). I doubled over, but at least blocked the shot. Then I stood up, still in extreme pain, and blocked the rebound shot...with my face.

[–]IDynasoar 0 points1 point ago

haha that reminds of one time when i was a kid. I was playing in a soccer game and i kicked the ball straight into this kids nuts on accident. The ball then happened to roll back to me so i kicked it again and it hit another kid in his nuts. Then it rolled back to me again and i scored. Right when i scored the ref came up to me saying that i had just made his week.

[–]cbfw86 0 points1 point ago

Defender HAS REMOVED the danger!

[–]ilikethegams 1 point2 points ago

I used to play keeper, the in back to back games I was concussed by a kick to the face, then I tore my mainiscus when someone kick my leg as I was diving. So now I just watch, if only my defenders were this hardcore.

[–]Tasrgunzapzap 0 points1 point ago

This exact thing happened to me in the same spot on the field as a kid and we had white jerseys, i thought it might have been me at first.
