The guy walking in the front had a nice save from awkwardness when he realized a high five wasn't going to cut it.

[–]Pake1000 26 points27 points ago

That would be Dr. Adam Steltzner. He sports an Elvis looking hair cut.

[–]Razer1103 3 points4 points ago

You think so?

I thought he looked like a younger Alec Baldwin.

[–]radarbeamer 1 point2 points ago

"Ladies..."

[–]peepspers 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, he snapped into hug mode on a dime. He was feelin it.

[–]Phallic 64 points65 points ago

That moment when you realize that 8 years and 2 and a half billion dollars paid off.

[–]SeviMan 38 points39 points ago

And it's all completely worth it.

[–]danyanimal 52 points53 points ago

Someone should add rave lights to this.

[–]_Chantastic_ 17 points18 points ago

[–]Frankeh 14 points15 points ago

And glow sticks in hands.

Close.....enough?

[–]GlenMYoshioka 23 points24 points ago

I like that one guy who swings his arm just a bit too soon.

[–]PajamaPete 16 points17 points ago

Premature Excitation?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points ago

It seems like he was the one who got the info first and then everybody followed him.

[–]d47 4 points5 points ago

Him and the guy walking in front seem to have made their reactions at the same time, so I think there may have been two possible places to get the information, one earlier than the other.

[–]uncivlengr 1 point2 points ago

Obviously some people are reading the telemetry data directly to make the announcement, while the rest of them are reacting to the announcement slightly afterwards.

This is the problem with creating .gifs from videos; the audio is the most important thing in this video, it's a little silly to intentionally remove it.

[–]Coloneljesus 0 points1 point ago

I've missed the live feed. Is there a video of this moment I can watch?

[–]3Dputty 1 point2 points ago

And then he calms himself down thinking maybe hes overreacting, politely claps, everyone goes nuts and he jumps up and does the most hilarious little jumps.

[–]KameNoOtoko 21 points22 points ago

Was this a synchronized nerdgasm? Because if so this is magical. Makes me wish I loved my job this much.

[–]ThatRedHairedGirl 4 points5 points ago

I feel the same. I find this nerdgasm to be adorable.

[–]Tagard_McStone 6 points7 points ago

Can't wait for Lloyd Christmas to read this post years later.

[–]MAJORpaiynne 6 points7 points ago

Everybody got laid after that

[–]ItRhymesInLatin 3 points4 points ago

They have to right? I mean, straight from there to the nearest bar. "I just put a 2000 lb rover down on a different planet." is a damn good pick up line.

[–]ag3nt_cha0s 16 points17 points ago

i really wish they had all broken into a synchronized dance routine.

[–]Frankeh 1 point2 points ago

[–]keith_weaver 0 points1 point ago

I have seen that perhaps 200 times in various areas. It never stops being completely fking creepy. When black people I know speak of white craziness, I pull up this gem.

[–]gifrific[S] 13 points14 points ago

[–]Maximus801 6 points7 points ago

Anyone know where I can find video of the live feed... I missed it

[–]Knuk 4 points5 points ago

[–]Selph94 2 points3 points ago

Just beautiful! I hope we learn more about life on mars this is insane!

[–]CanIGetaHellYeah 7 points8 points ago

Moving like that after sitting at your desk for months ? I predict many sore muscles in the morning.

[–]larogue 4 points5 points ago

[–]funkshanker 7 points8 points ago

[–]ItRhymesInLatin 2 points3 points ago

Well, for all the flak, the things are damn reliable.

[–]FaultyWires 2 points3 points ago

In fact, I have both on my macbook alone.

I still find the cost unjustifiably high, but it's a well constructed laptop, and the multitouch/touchpad works so much better than other laptops.

[–]aicanhascupcakez 2 points3 points ago

I can hear it!

[–]Knuk 2 points3 points ago

It happens here at around 4:40

[–]kleptooo 0 points1 point ago

[–]anonymousHacker 1 point2 points ago

[–]Coloneljesus 1 point2 points ago

Yes. We. The human species.

[–]typicalbastard 3 points4 points ago

I haven't seen nerds this happy since Empire Strikes Back came out

[–]kinpopdj -1 points0 points ago

[–]bnfdsl 0 points1 point ago

is it anyone in this frame that's saying the landing went well? Trying to see where the excitement starts from

[–]brandonw00 1 point2 points ago

Over the radio one of the guys says that touchdown is confirmed or something.

[–]JediMaster93 1 point2 points ago

Here's a complete video. LINK

[–]RamblinWreckGT 0 points1 point ago

I managed to turn on the live stream right at the start of this gif.

That's Descent and Landing Engineer, Dr. Adam Steltzner.

He was in the 7 minutes of terror they released a while back, which may be why he looks familiar to you.

[–]soajao 1 point2 points ago

Pure excitement

[–]thesoundoholic 1 point2 points ago

They're so cute!!

[–]champselysees 1 point2 points ago

This is so cute. I love how exciting science can be!

[–]DFrumpyOne 0 points1 point ago

I like how the guy in the bottom left is just like "Yeah, we did it! Now back to Reddit..."

[–]Clatz 1 point2 points ago

I was listening to some club music when I decided to watch this GIF. Hilarity ensued.

[–]TheBigBanger -1 points0 points ago

"We" didnt land on mars... a robot did.... again. USA wont make it to Mars with a person before another country does.... Obama cut that shit out quick. India is planning a mission to send a person there before anyone else.

[–]pebrudite 0 points1 point ago

President Black Bush would be proud.

RED ROCKS BITCHES

[–]freedom_dude12 0 points1 point ago

this maked me happy

[–]yesman609 1 point2 points ago

I kind of wanted to see how they would react if it didn't land properly.

[–]sp4ce 0 points1 point ago

you monster

[–]yesman609 0 points1 point ago

Haha. I'm sure everyone has an evil side to them. I just don't mind expressing it :)

[–]interkin3tic 0 points1 point ago

There were tears of joy, so i'd guess tears of sorrow if it didn't work.

Cooler probe, brand new landing system, new mission. Not to mention, landing a 2000 lb piece of complex and delicate equipment in inhospitable terrain is impressive enough, but flying it 154 million miles and touching down softly in inhospitable terrain on a rock thats flying at a little under 90,000 km per hour is amazing. It doesn't really get old.
