I watched the video and it was intentional. However, it wasn't a gesture of hostility. I read somewhere that Mr. Rogers thought that no part of the body should ever be considered naughty, and that we should appreciate every part of us, so he thought that the idea of a middle finger being bad was a bad idea. So he thought if we used it in another way, and taught kids it was ok to use, it would lose its power as a "fuck you."

Not only did Fred Rogers never serve in the military, there are no gaps in his career when he could conceivably have served in the military

I don't know how people ever believe rumors like these without doing any research themselves now with the internet and all. Also the whole "confirmed kills"-thing is complete bullshit, there's no official organ keeping the count.
