I always thought that Two Face in these cartoons looked like Sylvester Stallone.

[–]drayb3 8 points9 points ago

Can't unsee

[–]steviefin 8 points9 points ago

I made this for your enjoyment.

[–]ekbowler 85 points86 points ago

The villains interacting is always my favorite part of Batman. Nothing can beat "Almost Got em."

[–]flourdevour 51 points52 points ago

"Well, it was a big rock..."

[–]gorlock14 18 points19 points ago

The commentary was awesome. Two-face drinking half-and-half.

[–]flourdevour 38 points39 points ago

Oooh, sick burn!

[–]ohhimark108 28 points29 points ago

Pun hopefully intended.

[–]flourdevour 1 point2 points ago

Yup!

I know I won't win any friends by saying this, but I always found the animation style of TAS problematic. Movements take too long, awkward pauses all over the place. They always seem to hold on uninteresting things a beat or two too long. Am I alone in thinking that?

[–]alchemist5 51 points52 points ago

The "awkward pauses" are a result of pacing changes over the years. Older shows are slower paced, as a general rule (though, I'm sure there are exceptions). Let's not forget, B:TAS is 20 years old at this point; you have to take the age of the show into account when evaluating this sort of thing.

From personal experience: I find William Hartnell's Doctor Who almost intolerable due to the incredibly slow pacing. It's almost painful. However, I disagree with your assessment of Batman. I think the pauses enhance the drama and give the viewer a chance to appreciate the artwork.

[–]HyperspaceHero 23 points24 points ago

Upvoted both of your for raising good points. Honestly, I think the style of the show still holds up very well because it was retro (art deco) to begin with.

[–]david_tennants_hair 7 points8 points ago

Hartnell takes a while to enjoy. It may be wise to give it time. I didn't think I'd ever enjoy classic.

[–]alchemist5 7 points8 points ago

Oh, I enjoyed Hartnell himself. All the actors, really. But some of the plot was just so slow; it's quite hard to sit through. But once they got to Troughton, either the pacing improved, or I got used to it, because the 2nd Doctor is my 2nd favorite doctor, next to Pertwee (Pertwee is as far as I've gotten, besides New Who).

[–]david_tennants_hair 3 points4 points ago

I know what you mean then. I think all the four-part episodes (regardless of which doctor is presiding) are pretty comparable, but those rare ten-part episodes are unbearable haha.

[–]alchemist5 3 points4 points ago

Yes! I remember specifically there was a 6 (or even 8?) part show, that took place on a bug planet; I practically slept through the first half, because it took that long for them to establish that they were lost on a bug planet (ಠ_ಠ).

But I really did like Hartnell himself. He made me hope that they'd go for an older actor after Smith; I like that "eccentric grandfather" quality he had.

[–]david_tennants_hair 3 points4 points ago

Ewww At this point, I skip those haha. The War Games is ten parts, but it's somewhat of a milestone, so you have to watch it :-/

[–]alchemist5 3 points4 points ago

WARNING: DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS FROM 50 YEARS AGO

...

Yeah, War Games is where we first see the Master, right? I don't remember struggling through that one, but, I really like Troughton, and VLC player makes everything easier (I can 2x speed everything, and keep the sound + subtitles), so I might be biased. Though, it still took me ages to get through Colony in Space (despite it being one of Pertwee's stories).

[–]david_tennants_hair 1 point2 points ago

haha You're very courteous. It is. Kind of. I believe there is some debate to whether that was the canonical Master. It's a trivial matter. As for the next Doctor, I'm holding out my hopes for James Callis.

[–]CVI07 1 point2 points ago

I believe Helen Mirren has said she'd do it if offered and the timing was right.

[–]alchemist5 0 points1 point ago

That... that would be interesting. A female Doctor would have to be someone who's almost universally accepted already, in order to be done right, and I think she is definitely one of the few people who could pull it off. It'd be very, very interesting, if nothing else.

[–]CVI07 1 point2 points ago

It's worth noting the second doctor is also Matt Smith's favorite doctor persona. Eleven's bow tie is a borrowed element from Two, as well as bits of his personality.

[–]alchemist5 0 points1 point ago

I can definitely see that; I get a similar vibe from both of them, despite that Smith's Doctor seems a bit more scatterbrained (which I suppose makes sense, given that there's 8 lifetimes between them). And I like Smith's overall portrayal, too, though it seems Tennant has gotten the best of the New Who episodes, thus far.

[–]nebulianpizazz 1 point2 points ago

I have to kindly disagree. So far I think Matt Smith has done quite a few better episodes per season than Tennant's run. There was just way too many uninteresting filler episodes in Tennants Doctor. Beside the Moffat ones.

But this all boils down to whose writing style you ended up liking RTD or Moffats.

[–]emphaticleech 1 point2 points ago

You must watch some Tom Baker!

[–]alchemist5 2 points3 points ago

I want to! I've heard nothing but good things about him.

I've had his action figure for a few months, and I'm waiting until I get to his episodes to unbox it. Staring at it every day is a trying experience, to say the least.

[–]real-dreamer 1 point2 points ago

TIL >B:TAS is 20 years old at this point

Wow.

[–]alchemist5 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I sort of realized it as I was typing it. It's a weird feeling, eh?

[–]Odusei 0 points1 point ago

I'm not talking about pacing, I mean that dialogue itself moves really slowly. Someone will make a statement or joke, and there's a good 1-2 second pause before anyone responds. It's really awkward.

[–]alchemist5 4 points5 points ago

I can't speak much to that. It's been too long since I've seen much B:TAS for me to say whether that's a sign of the times, or an intentional style choice on the creator's part.

Either way, I'm astounded that there's a person who doesn't like B:TAS. That show is my childhood. I just can't imagine what it's like to not enjoy it.

[–]Odusei -2 points-1 points ago

Well I only recently started watching episodes, I'm still in the first half of the first season. I'm a huge Batman fan (obviously; why else would I post here), but the long awkward pauses are kinda confusing. I'm not sure if they expect me to laugh during those silences or what, but it kinda detracts form the experience.

[–]alchemist5 4 points5 points ago

Ah. Well, either the first season is a little rough (I remember, the scene where Harvey becomes Two-Face is unintentionally hilarious), or you just haven't gotten used to the pacing of the show yet.

Either way, I recommend sticking with it. If nothing else, there's a fairly significant style change from the third season to the fourth (which you might find more enjoyable, if you're not feeling the first 3).

[–]indefort 6 points7 points ago

I'm about as die hard of a BTAS fan as there is, and I'll admit the show hasn't aged well. These days things are so flawlessly animated by comparison. But if you look at it in context, say compared to the X-Men animated series... holy crap was BTAS doing great.

Not to mention all the innovative things that BTAS did do well, like painting on black backgrounds, and such.

[–]Odusei -3 points-2 points ago

So it's a technology problem? I can't really understand why the tech of the day required pauses in dialogue.

[–]indefort 0 points1 point ago

Not just technology but experience.

[–]galactic27 0 points1 point ago

Technology, cost, and quality of animation are usually very closely correlated.

[–]codyloydl 0 points1 point ago

I watch them on my computer so I can crank up the speed.. If I finish an episode in 15 minutes I can watch more of them!

[–]oliver_tate 4 points5 points ago

Quite the comedian.

[–]SirSigma 3 points4 points ago

I was watching this episode just the other day. I think this was the funniest joke in the episode by far.

[–]justicebuttskin 1 point2 points ago

Where can I watch tas? Any ideas?

[–]ChildishKambino 5 points6 points ago

There's a torrent of every episode you can download. Just go to The Pirate Bay.

[–]UniversityBear 0 points1 point ago

They're on youtube.

[–]Wafflemonster2 1 point2 points ago

If you are in Canada, I am pretty sure that Teletoon Retro plays it every night. Even if it does, I still recommend buying every season of it or, if you can, find "Batman: The Complete Animated Series". It is quite pricey now, since it has been out for four years and they have stopped making the sets altogether, but it is definitely the best value if you can find it for it's original price tag of around $100. Even if you can't find the complete set, you should be able to find each individual season for around $40 each. You could also always download it if you don't have the money for it or would just rather not spend that much money on it.

[–]ipodmusic23 2 points3 points ago

I am in Canada. You have just informed me that Teletoon Retro plays this show every night. I am now unreasonably excited. Thank you.

[–]Wafflemonster2 0 points1 point ago

I just checked the website and it appears that they have discontinued the animated series since I last checked my tv guide(which was not very long ago), sorry about getting your hopes up... I am actually surprised because they kept the 60's Batman with Adam West but got rid of arguably the best Batman series ever. You still have the option for torrents however, which will likely be more convenient and overall better than watching it on tv. Here are two options that appear to be good:

This one is quite large at nearly 18gbs.

This one is only 8gbs and I do not know if there is a loss in quality over the other one or not. In the comments on it people appear to be having issues with Episode 1, Season 1 but that is all that I see.

If you have no experience with torrents and need some info, feel free to PM me for some since I have used torrents for various things(mostly music and some programs) for quite some time now. I am not an expert on them however.

[–]Justin620 0 points1 point ago
