A few years ago, one canadian goose and another type of goose showed up on our farm and spent their days milling about, hanging out with the chickens and such. It was mildly confusing and irritating, as the canadian one would hiss at us, and the other one would walk right up to us without complaint. Geese be weird.

Seriously, it's this easy.

At the very least you can use it's animal instinct against it. Stand your ground and make yourself look bigger; if you have a jacket, fan it out to make yourself look enormous to it. If you start to back away or run, it'll take notice of that and chase you to get you to leave.

If they are defending a nest they will still have a go in my experience.

I find the best way is to reach towards them as they charge and they focus on your hand. Then you pull it back to the side while you whip your other hand around and grab them by the neck (close to the skull) then just carefully toss it a few metres away. Never seems to harm them and they seem to learn after a while.

It really sucks when it is a mating pair though, I never want to drop kick them so I have to go the big and scary route but honestly sometimes they just don't seem to give a shit.

Yep. A number of geese parked themselves outside one of the entrances to my high school during my senior year. They were also attacking anyone who tried to leave. AP Chem teacher roped off the area, dipped some bread in an undisclosed solution, and threw the bread out the door. Went and cleaned up the carcasses an hour later. This reminds me of the year a pair of Canadian geese nested in our garden centre. By the time we noticed, she had set up shop with six eggs and wasn't going anywhere. Calls to wildlife rescues proved fruitless... It would take them 4 days longer than a goose eggs gestation to get out there to remove them, and its illegal to remove them yourself.

So, we posted large signs coming in to the store saying WARNING!! GOOSE NESTING IN GARDEN CENTRE!! WILL ATTACK!! We posted additional signs on posts leading to the garden centre doors, posted signs directly on the doors, and even roped off a large area for the geese with bright yellow caution tape.

We still had a customer walk under the tape, get attacked and knocked down by the male goose, claim we didn't do enough, and sued us.
