Then you probably should have went to a different island that wasn't one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. Just sayin'. There are plenty of tropical paradise islands that have very little tourism and small populations.

The best places to go when visiting states or countries are the ones that aren't advertised to tourists. I honestly think that the people who go to Oahu and stay at the resort and tour around on a bus, are stupid. Why would you want a controlled experience? The best time I had when I visited France was at all the small Villas, hours away from Paris.

I've been to every state west of the Mississippi except WA and AK and I can tell you Wyoming and Montana are the most beautiful states with Glacier National Park being just incredible. But how often do you hear of GNP? Everybody talks about Yosemite. And while it is certainly amazing, it has NOTHING on the northern Rockies! And the California coast is crap compared to the Maui and Big Island coasts. But they can't compete against the PCH marketing.

It really is an unique experience. In several parts you can be walking in the middle of the day and think it's late evening because it gets rather dark. Pretty cool.

Oahu has some of the most beautiful landscapes in Hawaii. You just have to get out of Honolulu. There are corners of the island nobody ever visits.

I'm actually pretty good at finding incredible locations off the beaten path - and do enjoy the solitude. But glad to share it with others to discover in the future.

Hawaii's got one advantage over all the other "tropical" islands I've been to -- trade winds. Okinawa and Guam are humid like a motherfucker.

Honestly, I prefer Oahu, but that's just cause I grew up there. There's plenty of gorgeous places there, you just gotta know where to look.

The Hilo side has plenty of glorious jungle like this. You do have to do a lot of driving (or spend a lot of time there) if you would like to enjoy nice beaches, the volcano and the rainforest.

This. Kauai is very nice and quiet. It isn't difficult to find yourself the only one on the beach, especially before 9 am. Also, the north shore of Oahu is nice too. Honolulu is fine for shopping, but no one should expect a secluded paradise on that island until they go to the small towns.

When I was a kid, no trip to Ala Moana was complete until we saw a random relative. All of our trips were complete. There is nowhere you can go to be alone.

I dislike locals of most any 'small' town for this reason. Here I am visiting, spending my dollars to patronize your businesses and seeing the sights. Being my nice, friendly, quiet self, and you're going to sit there and give me the stink eye, or hate me cause I'm not,"from 'round huur".

Edit: I also hate asshole tourists who are mostly responsible for these feelings.
