This is a horrible argument. Displaying the best of atheism and the worst of Christianity is not a logical method of establishing your point.

[–]PFCDoofles 21 points22 points ago

Not that I'm happy to see this picture AGAIN, but comparing the richest atheists with the richest christians does make something of a point.

What I don't like is that it doesn't just let the data speak for itself.

[–]GrantSolar 6 points7 points ago

Richest Christian != Richest Televangelist

[–]Suttonian 6 points7 points ago

I thought it was just a way of pointing out that atheists can be good without god and theists can be bad.

[–]HotInTheStreets 0 points1 point ago

What's even worst is that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet aren't even atheists

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Pat Robertson is the sort of person that would sell his own mother for a quick buck, he just chose to invest in religion instead.

This is a flawed argument and no different to comparing Stalin to Mother Theresa.

[–]mhacdebhandia 1 point2 points ago

Especially since Teresa was a scumbucket.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

well so she is... TIL

Just replace Mother Teresa with the good christian of your choice.

[–]pummel_the_anus 1 point2 points ago

I took the point to mean that you can indeed be good without god, and you can be utterly ignorant and heartless even if you believe in god.

For me, the point goes both ways, although I'm not totally certain that was the intent; You can be good with or without god. Atheism doesn't have anything huge to do with character.

[–]Fleshgod 13 points14 points ago

God damn it, stop reposting this damn picture.

[–]SuperBeast4721 8 points9 points ago

Well I've never seen it.

[–]funkyfox 0 points1 point ago

I've never seen this... or the original, whatever that might be. The obvious shop on the bottom is making me wicked curious what was originally there, do you know what it was?

EDIT: SecularSamaritan.com isn't a legit website either... wtf?

Controlled burns remove fuel for wild fires to spread through.
Controlled burns off season result in less dense understory foliage for a wildfire to burn.

Lawyered.

Im arguing that fighting fire with fire is a legitimate and realistic way to control wild fires.

[–]MontyGBurns 2 points3 points ago

While I agree with you, atheists don't stand for anything. That's kind of the whole point.

I am not an atheist because it is good or moral. I am an atheist because I do not believe in god. There are immoral atheists just as there are moral theists. Being an atheist does not make one inherently better than a theist. Also by what standard do you decide what is good and moral? There are some who would argue giving away money to charity is infact immoral. Basically what I'm trying to get at is that just because we both don't believe in god doesn't mean we share the same morals or that we should. That is the beauty of atheism. I am free to find my own morality based on what makes sence to me.

[–]grippage 1 point2 points ago

Having a ton of money to donate doesn't make you a good person.

[–]roly0003 2 points3 points ago

no, but giving away some of your wealth to help others kinda helps with the whole "do unto others" thing

[–]APXONTAS 0 points1 point ago

I think it should be "Cruel heartless bastard"

[–]Banana_Slut 0 points1 point ago

As Aron Ra describes Pat Robinson: "This Special-Olympian, Super-Bigot..."

[–]winning34 1 point2 points ago

this is reposted every week...

[–]napoleonsolo 1 point2 points ago

The original image without Pat Robertson was much better than this crap. Instead of creating a discussion of how much good atheists can do in the world, it inspires a discussion of Pat Robertson and whether he's representative of Christians.

[–]JA24 0 points1 point ago

We should have Pat Robertson donate a dollar every time this is reposted

[–]chubakaz0r 0 points1 point ago

Stalin would like to talk to you.

[–]euxneks 0 points1 point ago

Be careful about putting anyone on a pedestal.

[–]TearsofClay 0 points1 point ago

I'd like to see the proof on the blood mine, on pat robertson.

[–]TasteMyThoughts 0 points1 point ago

Warren Buffet and Bill Gates don't consider themselves atheists.

[–]strangefolk 0 points1 point ago

Where did pat robertson say he supports the use of slave labor in African diamond mines? Seriously, we don't need to lie or exaggerate to prove these people wrong.
