The Nobel Prize in physics is awarded to physicists who have made significant advances in research to the field, usually in radical or theoretical fields of physics.

Tyson's career however is focused almost entirely on distribution of astrophysics information to the media. His jobs as director of a planetarium and a research associate at a museum make it highly unlikely that he is participating in the kind of research that is awarded a Nobel prize.

You seem not to understand what the Nobel Prize is for.

He didnt discover anything this year that is worth it and the nobel prizes are about discovery (not the peace prize that might as well be drawing straws) and while he is a great scientist i would give it to the guys that discovered the Higgs Boson Particle

Definitely not. That's not what the NP in Physics is about.

He's an amazing educator. If there was a Nobel Prize for Education, I'd vote for him.

But there isn't. And he hasn't earned a Nobel Prize in physics.

Didn't this guy build his own time machine prototype?

Do you have a pinup of NDT on your wall?

You really think america is ready for a black president AND black np in physics at the same time ?

I wonder why you put that in atheism... Isn't there something like /physics? And as anyone else said, he is an amazing educator, but that's not what a Nobel Prize is for.

I love him in The History Channel's, The Universe! He explains things so well that anyone can understand astrophysics when he explains it.

I like this guy, but Lawrence Krauss deserves it this year in my opinion.

If they had a Nobel prize for science evangelism he'd probably win it for sure.

Did President Obama do anything to earn a Nobel prize? ಠ_ಠ
