I am proud to say that my alma mater and current employer Wake Forest University is where this table originates. Can't say I ever sit there that often, it's out in the open so it gets battered by the elements.

[–]DaxInvader 131 points132 points ago

Soo.. you eat there periodically ...

[–]FarmerTedd 20 points21 points ago

Chem on y'all

[–]timecronus -4 points-3 points ago

you know how often i like chemistry jokes? Periodically

[–]tatertot1000 0 points1 point ago

I don't know. I like some elements of it but the noble gasses just irritate me.

[–]blackasssnake 0 points1 point ago

it's best not to say that publicly - it would be wise to take those thoughts and just Barium deep inside

[–]ColdPorridge 10 points11 points ago

It's so he can reduce his carbon foodprint.

... I'll show myself out.

[–]FiL-dUbz 2 points3 points ago

Get the FUCK out of here, sir.

[–]RYEGRAIN 2 points3 points ago

UPVOTES AND RED RUDDY RHENISH FOR EVERYONE

[–]DrScience11 4 points5 points ago

Filled to the brim!?!

[–]DoctaPayne 0 points1 point ago

I approve of this idea. Someone should post in /r/WFU about it.

[–]bytor_2112 1 point2 points ago

I x-posted this link, but not a bad idea. I considered a meetup tailgate for r/demondeacons but there would have been an attendance of maybe 2

[–]bytor_2112 0 points1 point ago

luter dorm is best dorm, and don't you forget it

[–]skyman724 -2 points-1 points ago

Sorry to ruin your circlejerk, but some of us would like to know what this jargon means.............

[–]DrScience11 0 points1 point ago

It's the Wake Forest Fight song. Though it was started in the middle

[–]Cyrodiil 0 points1 point ago

It's part of our fight song.

[–]Moricw0 0 points1 point ago

Go Deacs!!! Fuck yea.

[–]SirryGweiLo 11 points12 points ago

I've had lunch at this very table. Go Deacs.

[–]DrScience11 4 points5 points ago

I've always wanted to do this. I'm a physics major and chem minor and see this table all the freaking time.

[–]DoctaPayne 0 points1 point ago

I've studied there a few times when I wanted to be out in the sunshine.

[–]Kazz3lrath 0 points1 point ago

My first semester I had an afternoon class in Winston hall. I used to grab Chick-Fil-A and eat at this table.

[–]Chaytup 4 points5 points ago

It's rather preppy there.

[–]potently-potable 2 points3 points ago

Go Deacs!

[–]Viamede 1 point2 points ago

There is also one at McMaster University

[–]Blues39[!] 1 point2 points ago

We have that table too outside the main engineering building at McMaster in Ontario. I thought it was unique. T_T

[–]PrognosisWafflecone 0 points1 point ago

The graduating class of Chem Eng 2011 at McMaster University built one of these, too!

[–]malenkylizards 0 points1 point ago

That's quite a noble institution!

[–]WFUTunnelAuthority 0 points1 point ago

Also an employee and alum of WFU, this is hole #11 of our on-campus Frolf course.

[–]elbenji 0 points1 point ago

I am...quite jealous actually o.o

"EVERYBODY RUN! SOMEONE SPILLED WATER ON THE FRANCIUM!"

[–]studmuffffffin 17 points18 points ago

[–]Patricko96 -5 points-4 points ago

Or sodium, maybe potassium. I'm like 98% percent sure potassium is explosive when introduced to water.

[–]studmuffffffin 4 points5 points ago

Did you watch the video?

[–]Patricko96 2 points3 points ago

No I was trying to remember from 9th science .

[–]Motorpenis 1 point2 points ago

All the period one elements react quite violently with water, becoming more violent as you go down.

[–]Patricko96 3 points4 points ago

Hmm TIL, thanks Motorpenis

[–]Acidogenic 0 points1 point ago

If there was more than 10 g of francium on earth at any given second and it all could be isolated, it would be one hell of a dirty bomb.

[–]Patricko96 2 points3 points ago

Would it react with the oxygen or what. I remember Fluorine and francium being the most reactive elements but I didn't know why.

[–]Motorpenis 1 point2 points ago

Francium and fluorine are indeed some of the most reactive elements.

  1. Francium is a large atom, and has only one electron in its outermost shell. This makes it easy for another atom to grab that electron. The larger the atom is, the weaker the nuclear forces are between the valence electrons (outermost electrons) and the nucleus.

  2. Fluorine is also extremely reactive, mainly because it is extremely electronegative and can gain one electron. Fluorine can produce strong bonds between atoms due to its electronegativity. Because of this, fluorine can react with almost any element except the noble gases with exceptions.

[–]MrRampage11410 4 points5 points ago

hahaha, I nearly choked on a roll reading that,

[–]Knewtworiddet 2 points3 points ago

FTFY (Instakill explosion)

[–]Crackerjacksurgeon 18 points19 points ago

When you sit at this table, your balls touch the most dangerous elements.

Reflect on this.

[–]CaptainVulva 3 points4 points ago

upon the Tree of Woe

[–]zwyanewade 15 points16 points ago

Notice how the table only has one bench.

[–]online222222 1 point2 points ago

They should have put the key on the other bench

Wrong subreddit.

[–]yosephus 8 points9 points ago

Came here to say this. It's really cool, but it isn't funny at all. At best it's a shitty pun.

[–]Urban_Savage 1 point2 points ago

Bonus, its also a really old repost.

[–]solace1234 -2 points-1 points ago

explain this to me, because i dont even get the joke EDIT: nevermind, i saw another comment

[–]Cheat2Lose 4 points5 points ago

I thought it was funny.

[–]JabbaDHutt 14 points15 points ago

How dare you express your opinion.

Edit: Now that his comment has more upvotes than downvotes this comment makes me look like an ass. We can solve this by downvoting it to Hell. Let's go, people.

[–]dunchen22 1 point2 points ago

An opinion different than the general consensus, no less!

[–]Cheat2Lose 1 point2 points ago

Haha it's all good. The post has 1300 points right now, so someone agrees with me.

[–]maro_chik 5 points6 points ago

Relevent: My former university's science building...

Wish they'd put the whole table up.

[–]bleucheez 2 points3 points ago

Where is this?

[–]primetimey -1 points0 points ago

University of Winnipeg

[–]PhiladelphiaIrish 4 points5 points ago

I'm sure the designer of this table was pissed about the discovery of elements 112-118.

[–]courjd9 3 points4 points ago

MY CAPS LOCK IS BROKEN AND I DONT MEAN TO BE A DOUCHE. THAT SAID: HOLY SHIT I SHIT YOU NOT I AM SITTING AT THIS TABLE RIGHT NOW. RIGHT OUTSIDE OF SALEM HALL.

[–]bleucheez 2 points3 points ago

Virtual keyboard, man.

[–]DoctaPayne 1 point2 points ago

Go Deacs!

[–]EpitomEngineer 0 points1 point ago

tape down the shift key...

[–]shinthemighty 0 points1 point ago

is the comma key broken too?

[–]_SameL_ -1 points0 points ago

I periodically sit here.

[–]GoldandBlue 0 points1 point ago

Seriously, schools should incorporate more stuff like this on campuses. I'm talking high schools. Everyday more science and arts programs are being cut. Sitting on a table like this might at least get something to stick.

[–]beeceezee 0 points1 point ago

... and in the elements.

[–]AlexWoodRules 0 points1 point ago

Clever

[–]dubau5 -1 points0 points ago

i excpected a table with blood on it when i clicked this

[–]BewilderedAlbatross 0 points1 point ago

That table is missing a few elements...

[–]lang_syne 0 points1 point ago

I don't think you'd want to sit on those elements. Especially if you planned of having children.

[–]mxmul 1 point2 points ago

Is it sometimes not a table?

[–]alcabazar 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only uncomfortable with having darmstadtium and roentgenium so close to my balls?

[–]bmizzlez -1 points0 points ago

How can it be periodic if it's attached to the ground?

[–]billthethrill1234 0 points1 point ago

That was so funny I almost fell off the Actinide-Lanthanide series when I saw it.

[–]ProfessorMcHugeBalls 0 points1 point ago

I wonder how many people clip themselves on Hydrogen as they walk past? Looks like it would hurt!

I see what you did there

[–]FoodIsProblematic 0 points1 point ago

Here, have a real periodic table of elements.

(You can buy a miniature one here.)

[–]Yewturn 0 points1 point ago

Periodic table of Repost.

[–]Stonna 0 points1 point ago

I get it, because its a table

[–]249ba36000029bbe9749 0 points1 point ago

It would be better if the table would be removed and replaced every so often.

[–]DishwasherTwig 0 points1 point ago

It would be better if it occasionally recessed into the ground. That way it would only periodically be a table.

[–]andrew_sauce 0 points1 point ago

notice there is only one bench.
we chemists don't have many to eat lunch with..........

[–]iamjasonstatham 0 points1 point ago

Repost from my highschool chemistry teacher

[–]Auvit 0 points1 point ago

I don't get how this is funny. Is it the pun?

Not meaning to be abrasive, just thought this would be more suited for r/pics

[–]ELHC 0 points1 point ago

next government to put this in all schools gets my vote!

[–]asherrd 0 points1 point ago

I'd like a periodic table canvas but not just the standard table. Something somewhat artistic, but not too artistic where elements are not where they should be and whatnot. Anyone have any ideas?

[–]GoldenTabby 1 point2 points ago

Yeah make people sit on the radioactive elements.

[–]drunkkkkk 1 point2 points ago

i'll eat lunch out there... if you know what i mean ;) (i like lunch time)

[–]spiral_of_agnew 0 points1 point ago

If they wanted to make a pun, it should have only periodically been a table. Some sort of cyclical mechanism should have made it periodically a chart, periodically a table, and periodically useless.

[–]YourPostIsShitty 0 points1 point ago

This isn't funny.

[–]PandaPlaysPunk 0 points1 point ago

I see what you did there...

[–]nshadd2455 0 points1 point ago

This doesn't belong on /r/funny...

[–]ThrowAway233223 0 points1 point ago

False! Not all of those elements are part of the table. Some are part of the seat.

[–]scamperly 0 points1 point ago

Table of elements that sits out in the elements.

Yo dawg...

[–]voidref 0 points1 point ago

I'm sure we'll see this again, and again.

[–]Mogura 0 points1 point ago

sitting on that bench for too long will likely give you some form of radiation poisoning.

[–]rolyoh 0 points1 point ago

Most excellent!

[–]GuyFleegman 0 points1 point ago

What does it turn into during the periods that it's not a table?

[–]bobitis 0 points1 point ago

Re Post Re Post Re Post

[–]NydusHerMain 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why this is in r/funny. I think the table is amazing

[–]D_Dobbs 0 points1 point ago

Awesomeness!

[–]adolf_oliver_bush69 0 points1 point ago

It is missing the two new elements, flerovium (AN 114) and livermorium (AN 116), but it is still awesome

[–]butonemike 0 points1 point ago

Seems like a pretty constant table to me. Are there periods when it functions as a couch or something?

[–]bassguitarbill 0 points1 point ago

I get it. It's because the word 'table' can be used to refer to both the furniture and a method of displaying the elements. This is humorous.

[–]munki_unkel 0 points1 point ago

I'd prefer to keep ACtiNidEs off my butt!

[–]JexFraequin 0 points1 point ago

More like Picnic Table of Elements! Amirite?!

[–]rspix000 1 point2 points ago

Only got 15 upvotes 1 year ago. Get's funnier with age? http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/iza0r/periodic_table/

[–]toast_toasts_toast -2 points-1 points ago

Obnoxious repost is obnoxious

[–]Binsky89 -1 points0 points ago

Picknicodic Table of Elements. FTFY

[–]dustymaster9 1 point2 points ago

I fail to find the humor in this picture...

[–]Justascienceteacher 0 points1 point ago

I would sit at this table.

[–]gruvn 2 points3 points ago

All the time? Or just....

Occasionally?

[–]Justascienceteacher 1 point2 points ago

Only when the elements are just right.

I can't remember the type of acid from Breaking Bad which dissolves bodies, and porcelain tubs, but not plastic bins from wal-mart. But when I do, I'm plunging you in it.

[–]Cheat2Lose 1 point2 points ago

Hydrofluoric acid. Although, it will mainly dissolve his bones, not so much skin and other squishy stuff.

[–]CaptainVulva 1 point2 points ago

Oh god that's revolting. So he'll be a boneless leaking sack of disgusting?

[–]Cheat2Lose 1 point2 points ago

That's why it's so dangerous in lab. If you spill it on your hand, you probably won't know it right away because it'll just absorb through your skin. One of my organic professor's used to say you should stay 50 ft away from a bear and 100 ft away from HF.

[–]CaptainVulva 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit that's ... wow! Wow wow wow. Can this seriously dissolve someone's bones (even in very small part) while leaving soft tissue unharmed?

Also, is your professor a fan of the show?

[–]Cheat2Lose 1 point2 points ago

I've never tested it out, but according to wikipedia if can take up to a day for external signs to appear.

This was right before the BrBa came out, so I'm not sure about his fandom. But I can tell you most organic chemists have joked about starting a meth lab at one point or another.

[–]VictorianGurl -2 points-1 points ago

[–]ItsTheFeds 0 points1 point ago

I like to eat there, from time to time.

[–]DoctaPayne 0 points1 point ago

I like to study there :)

[–]Cheat2Lose 0 points1 point ago

Ha, the Lanthanide/Actinide bench really makes this picture.

[–]CaptainVulva 1 point2 points ago

What kind of horrible person would downvote such an adorably geeky comment??

[–]Cheat2Lose 1 point2 points ago

I think this picture is awesome, but clearly I'm a chemist so it's right in my wheelhouse.

[–]pixery 0 points1 point ago

I'd sit there periodicly

[–]bradadams986 0 points1 point ago

Periodic Table IN the Elements

[–]xiipaoc -1 points0 points ago
