My girlfriend's cat does a similar thing. He just sits in front of the nearest faucet wailing at the top of his furry little lungs until someone comes and turns it on for him to drink.

Usually, if you don't know where he is, he's in the bathtub waiting to be served his precious faucet water.

        My dad's cat flushes the toilets just to watch the water circle around the bowl. We have to keep the bathroom doors closed now otherwise he'll flush them all day long.

        My cat poops in the sink, if we forget to close the bathroom door. He used to poop in the shower, until we started keeping the shower door closed. I thought it was in protest [terrorism] for forgetting to scoop his litter, but now I think that he got the idea from watching me use the toilet, and now considers himself some kind of innovator.

        I've read accounts of some people training their pets to use the toilet instead of a litter box. Sounds like your cat is halfway there on his own.

        My wife's cat never liked water but one day we found her drinking from the shower tap - very odd. We later learned from the vet that this common when cats experience kidney failure. If this is new behavior, take her to the vet.

        Totally overkill statement from the vet looking for $$$. An animal will have no problem exploiting any water source it can find.

        Happens to be in bathroom with dripping tap and feels thirsty, lap lap lap... certainly not going to go to the water bowl when there is water available right there.

        Though, I do agree, if your cat is like 15 and never done this ever, then maybe a concern. But from my experience, I have yet to meet a person with a house cat, who's cat hasn't had and interest in dripping faucets.

        I think my brother's cat just has terrible kidneys. She is obsessed with water in a very angry way. She's also had kidney issues off and on but has never been put on any medicine. Mostly it's just kidney stones that she gets and has had surgery once to remove a really big one. She's been a mean angry cat ever since she stopped being a kitten. We buy her special food but secretly half the family just kinda wishes she goes away.

        My cat is older and a much nicer cat.

        I think they just like running water more for some reason,(not that a vet doesn't know better than me) because my cat always prefers the sink or shower to her water dish. She actually stares at it and meows when I walk towards the sink sometimes.

        Cats do prefer running water to standing water. They also prefer their water not next to their food or litterbox. If a cat is constantly licking the shower water/sink water, it probably just means they want that water over wherever their water bowl is. My cat used to beg for sink water until our vet told us to move her waterbowl. Now she gets sink water as a bonus treat, but drinks from her bowl way more often :)

        I've always figured it was because running water in nature is much less likely to contain parasites or bacteria than stagnant water. It's probably instinctual to prefer a drink from a source of running water than a stagnant bowl.

        Either that, or my cats just like bossing me around and turning on the sink.

          All I can think off is that music video where the person is in a chair. They arch their back, pull some string, and a bunch of water falls on them. I'm pretty sure it was a music video back when the dudes had long, permed, hair and had tons of make-up, aka Classic Rock.
