All the things we forgot that we remember.

Nostalgia is often triggered by something reminding you of a happier time. Whether it's an old commercial or a book from your past, it belongs in /r/nostalgia. Here we can take pleasure in reminiscing about the good ol' days... times we shared with loved ones, both humorous and sad. So grab your Pogs, Surge cans and Thriller cassettes, and we'll see you in /r/nostalgia!

The acid trip version was better.

[–]Rapid_Fire 16 points17 points ago

There is no better screen saver than that

[–]dangerousD85 17 points18 points ago

I don't know I'm pretty partial to the flying toasters.

[–]irisflowers 4 points5 points ago

I remember, there was some sort of car game like this, anybody know what was it called ...

[–]Deniizu 13 points14 points ago

Perhaps Hoover? From the Windows 95 companion disc!

[–]Caveman788 1 point2 points ago

Hoover was a fucking amazing game. I spent so long playing this. Would love to have a multiplayer version hosted on a website, a game that simple, I'm sure it can be done!

[–]irisflowers 2 points3 points ago

Thank you! It's been on my mind for while now ....

[–]Neon1986late 80s 1 point2 points ago

I'll never forget when I was poking around on the 95 disc just for the hell of it and I discovered Hover. Things like that seemed magical to me, as a kid.

[–]DigitalChocobo 0 points1 point ago

I always thought it was Hover until I played it again a few years ago. I also beat my personal best on Space Cadet Table.

Grandparents that refuse to get new computers are neat.

[–]DiscoRage 2 points3 points ago

It is Hover!, not Hoover.

[–]Deniizu -1 points0 points ago

This is what happens when I post to reddit from my phone. Hover is correct!

[–]BlackBlizzard 0 points1 point ago

[–]irisflowers 0 points1 point ago

Thanks ... So there is some way to get it now ?

[–]silverscreemer 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't know how to get it or run it.

I don't have any of my old as hell CD's from way back.

I miss you Spider-Man Cartoon Maker!

[–]irisflowers 1 point2 points ago

Thank you!

[–]Neon1986late 80s 1 point2 points ago

You're welcome!

[–]irisflowers 1 point2 points ago

i couldn't get it to work...

[–]Neon1986late 80s 1 point2 points ago

I downloaded it last night but didn't try it yet, I'll give it a shot later and let you know what happens. What version of Windows are you using?

[–]LantzJ271 4 points5 points ago

Pipes anyone?

[–]dovah-kun 28 points29 points ago

[–]imperfcet 10 points11 points ago

Wow, it's hosted on tripod. Double nostalgia whammy!

[–]techboy48 0 points1 point ago

YEAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! edit: have been looking for this

[–]comfynipples 0 points1 point ago

This is awesome, I didn't even have to setup anything and it went across my dual displays.

[–]Smaktat 0 points1 point ago

i just peed

[–]vxx 59 points60 points ago

Every time I see the Win 3.11 screen saver, I believe it is wolfenstein3D for a few seconds.

oh, mein leben

[–]Shappie 20 points21 points ago

When I was really young I used to think this screensaver was the same thing as Wolfenstein. I would always get so pissed when I pushed a button and it disappeared. Then my brother had to come load Wolfenstein for me so I'd shut up.

Ah, memories.

[–]vxx 13 points14 points ago

I never was allowed to play wolfenstein because my parents thought it would make me a bad person. I remember that I got it from my older cousin and installed it secretly; oh the extra thrill when I played it with my 2 year younger brother.

The one day our father catched us playing was worth it.

[–]hefightabear 9 points10 points ago

not sure if you used "catched" because you were being nostalgic and that's something a child would say, or you just made a typo. either way. i'm ok with this.

[–]jiveturkeykilla 0 points1 point ago

The "one day" was yesterday.

[–]dickcheney777 0 points1 point ago

I used to play Wolfenstein 3d when I was 6, I still have nightmares about nazis dressed in bright blue.

[–]Irrelevant_pelican 0 points1 point ago

Were you joking or serious? I played Doom as a kid (using IDDQD and IDKFA, of course) and I'm pretty sure it gave me bad nightmares. Not anymore though.

[–]dickcheney777 0 points1 point ago

Yes I was joking. At the time, I would jump from time to time while playing though.

[–]anarchistica 1 point2 points ago

Are you sure it's 3.1? It didn't have a start button.

Also: "3D Maze" - A simple but cool maze screensaver introduced in Windows 95 OSR2

I have to admit i mostly used DOS and XTreeGold though (until Windows '95 came around).

[–]theGreyjoy 13 points14 points ago

I still see this on the daily at work...our computrons are that old.

[–]fiwer 9 points10 points ago

When I was in high school, I remember sitting in my earliest class one day and behind my teacher was a computer with this screen saver running. I was bored and tired so I just zoned out for like 15 minutes straight staring at it. Suddenly she turns around and turns the screen off and yells at us to pay attention. I looked around and saw everyone in the class looking dazed, it turned out that the entire class had been staring at the stupid screensaver. It's so fucking mesmerizing.

[–]POULTRY_PLACENTA 2 points3 points ago

...except when it just goes in circles.

[–]sp4ce 7 points8 points ago

I used to make my own textures. you can load BMP's.

I made 'blood house' where there was blood stained carpet and blood splattered on the walls and even a little on the ceiling.

i must have been very demented as a child.

[–]dw1813275 5 points6 points ago

Still more fun than Duke Nukem Forever.

[–]nuclearswim 5 points6 points ago

Fuck yeah!

[–]gravitationaltim 8 points9 points ago

I loved this! I was really young when I played it though, I can't even remember what it was called. Wasn't it on Encarta or something? I always vaguely remembered it and wanted to play it again, are there any flash games modeled after it? I remember I had way too much fun on Encarta for a 7-year-old. Not much else to do on a Windows when you don't get Solitaire or Minesweeper

[–]hessproject 9 points10 points ago

I believe you're thinking of MindMaze

[–]gravitationaltim 0 points1 point ago

YEP. In my defense, an old Windows screen in a brick labyrinth is pretty close. Thanks for reminding me, it was nothing but a faint memory

[–]Im_Wearing_A_Towel 5 points6 points ago

I believe it was the default screensaver from WAY back in the Windows 3.1 days. Haven't found anything like it, though.

[–]darkreality20late 70s 8 points9 points ago

Google it. It still works with XP, Vista, and 7. Probably 8, too. Looks like shit, but what you do is, google "brick texture", "wood texture", etc. and convert these images to BITMAP (BMP). All the maze screensaver does is, it generates a (small stupid) maze and throws up its default bitmaps. You can replace these with HD ones. It will still look like shit, but it won't look nearly as bad.

//edit: Link from another comment

[–]Galaxyman0917 2 points3 points ago

I know it was on 98 also. I used to change it from the scrolling marquis or pipes to the maze and pretend I was walking through it.

[–]crappyboy 0 points1 point ago

Didn't they have a psychedelic version of it?

[–]Rapid_Fire 1 point2 points ago

Yes, you just had to edit the walls/floor/ceiling in the settings. Shit was trippy yo.

[–]Neon1986late 80s 0 points1 point ago

I didn't have it with 3.1, just 95, if I remember correctly.

[–]jesspresso 0 points1 point ago

it was also a screensaver on windows 95 :]

[–]satellites 1 point2 points ago

I think you might be thinking of Mad Maze, which was an awesome game on Prodigy.

[–]POULTRY_PLACENTA 1 point2 points ago

MadMaze was an online video game, playable through the now-defunct Prodigy service.

:(

[–]satellites 2 points3 points ago

Never fear, you can play an emulation here!

[–]Carolimerose 0 points1 point ago

I think you might be thinking of Mind Maze.

[–]Carolimerose 0 points1 point ago

Mind Maze was on Encarta.

[–]brianhaddad 2 points3 points ago

Man. This was the age of discovery for me. I was well into my teens, but everything was exciting about these days on the computers!

[–]Pfirsicheis 2 points3 points ago

ah well.. the times when i wasn't allowed to go on the internet yet.. -

[–]iammadeofawesome 1 point2 points ago

oh wow, you just brought back memories. I completely forgot about that screensaver!

[–]Duderino316 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit if I remember this does it mean I'm... OLD!? o_O

[–]brosenfeld 1 point2 points ago

WOLFEN...oh...yeah...that...

[–]90sNerdJosh 2 points3 points ago

I used to rage so hard at the "guy" running the maze. Moron never could find the exit.

[–]N3PHxx 1 point2 points ago

I used to think this was a Wolfenstein 3D Screensaver, and was terribly disappointed when I found out it was Windows. Even though its the same texture.

[–]Gdigger13 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone have a gif of this?

[–]notoriousdkg 0 points1 point ago

Currently the screen saver on my work computer.

[–]mastrman 0 points1 point ago

This was my entertainment in 2nd grade I would stare at it for hours and never payed attention to my teacher.

[–]aakaakaak 0 points1 point ago

Probably my favorite screen saver of all time.

[–]SprechenSieDich 1 point2 points ago

I used to watch the little man cast away on an island for hours at a time.

[–]mace9984 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit. I forgot about this until you. I want it back!

[–]thesircuddles 0 points1 point ago

I had some sort of mini seizure or something and blacked out for a few seconds in high school while staring at this screen saver.

[–]coupochingo 0 points1 point ago

what about the motorcyclists that would do stunts? am i remembering this right??

[–]___Z0RG___ 0 points1 point ago

I'd stare at the screen every time until it found the smiley face.

[–]animalshoah 0 points1 point ago

My teacher always had her monitor facing us with this. Very distracting in class. I remember endless disappointment waiting to reach cheese...

[–]WeAreParalized 0 points1 point ago

Mee

[–]MidnightHands 0 points1 point ago

This guy does!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Does anyone remember the Doom mod that was just this?

I found it so damn funny.

[–]Fermonx 0 points1 point ago

I always stayed looking at it for 20 minutes, it was awesome

[–]salle1 0 points1 point ago

i remember a game like this, but it was fps, and u killed like yellow and purple "circle" monsters", anyone have any idea? i hope someone got this

[–]Kris18 0 points1 point ago

I stared and watched. Watched a screensaver for hours.

[–]buttercupchico 0 points1 point ago

Wow I forgot about the screen saver, I would catch myself watching it as a kid.

[–]Sanity_in_Moderation 1 point2 points ago

Hell yeah Wolfenstein! ....... Oh wait, that's that rip off screen saver.

[–]librarianzrock 1 point2 points ago

I thought the same...many hours on Wolfenstein in HS...

[–]Edrondol 0 points1 point ago

Ooh! I finally get to use this!

Who remembers this?

[–]player_zero_[S] 2 points3 points ago

I hadn't seen it in years, I class it as nostalgia. What thread are we in again?

Just because it is well known doesn't mean it isn't nostalgic.

[–]Edrondol 1 point2 points ago

Aw man! I only wanted to use the gif! Bad me! Bad!!

[–]player_zero_[S] 0 points1 point ago

Ah you're a nice guy.

[–]simon_C -1 points0 points ago

Nobody remembers it. Not one single person other than you. You are the only person in the entire world that remembers that.

[–]player_zero_[S] 0 points1 point ago

Witty and hilarious.

[–]simon_C -3 points-2 points ago

Thank you. I try.

[–]lulucandyx -2 points-1 points ago

Omg ... Memories <3

[–]RoachOnATree0116 0 points1 point ago

[–]aku42 -3 points-2 points ago

Oh My God, You used windows too?

[–]sdude9 -3 points-2 points ago

I used to sit there for like half an hour every day just staring at that shit.

[–]digbus -2 points-1 points ago

So this is Facebook now? Like if you remember this?

[–]rKade -4 points-3 points ago

Really? Fucking really?

[–]imsoeffingtired 4 points5 points ago

I can't tell if you're mad or just really excited.

[–]Impartofthingstoo -2 points-1 points ago

I'm gonna go find my dick. The fucking nostalgia blew it off. If you know what I mean.

[–]spion23 -4 points-3 points ago
